Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen

My daughter and I have enjoyed eating at Cheddar's for many years. Over the past year or so we found the wait staff to be inept at best, slow and somewhat rude at other times. Today we went to the Pflugerville location after one too many bad experiences at the Hwy 183 location. It was no better. I like the food quite a bit and consider it a good value for the money as well. That being said you would think that the staff would be better trained and more courteous and actually hustle to earn their tip. I think it's time to find a new family favorite spot. more

We ate, for the first time, at a Cheddars on 9/17/11. The service was mediocre, but obviously he couldn't keep up. And, the place was not too busy. I noticed as we waited for our drinks that a table near by was waiting on their ticket receipt and credit card for close to 30 minutes. The gentleman actually asked for a manager that apologized, but offered nothing else. THere were a couple of flies around that annoyed several tables in the area. And, I continually saw servers walk around with their hands in their pocket while every table around us waited anxiously for food. IT took 45 minutes before a simple salad and chicken fried steak came out. I asked for a manager and asked if we would have food coming any time soon, and she was coy about the wait. The breading on the chicken fried steak was awesome, but the meat was so chewy it ruined the meal. The decor doesn't match the ambience that the staff and food present. I'll never go back to Cheddar's. It was a waste of money. This is a sad fast food, actually slow food, version of a CHilis or Applebees. more

My husband & I went to Cheddars on Tuesday night. (May of 2010) I ordered the chicken alfredo. Our food arrived, the waiter put it down & walked off without saying one word. My chicken was red & clearly raw. We looked around for a waiter. No waiters or waitress was there. My husband went to the kitchen & told the ""manager."" After a few minutes the waiter came out & asked if i would like him to bring me a plate to put the chicken on & take it in the kitchen to cook it. Then, he came back after about a minute & said, ""I better take the whole plate, cuz' the rest of the food might be contaminated."" While I am waiting for my food, my husband ate all of his. When my food finally came out, (the chef brought it out). I ate a couple of bites, then got a box to go. The bill was brought to us. We were given a check for the full amount. We left very unhappy. The slap in the face was that the manager didn't even have the guts to come to our table. I called the manager the next day & all he said was, ""I'm sorry you feel that way."" My wife had Grilled Tilapia With Mango Salsa and I had the 8 oz. Center Cut Top Sirloin Steak. Both were under cooked and not as ordered. The steak was extremely tough. Ate 4 bites and gave up. My friend and I took her daughter there for lunch last Saturday. The food was good and at reasonable price. The things we did not like (perhaps, they thought it was good service) was constantly trying to take our plates away before asking and more importantly, before we were done eating. It happened three times over a mere 15 minutes. From the time we walked in to the time we walked out, it was less than 50 minutes. It is not a place to have a relaxing lunch or dinner. Too bad, the food was really good. Pros: Excellent food. Lots of parking. Good greeting staff. Cons: The waiter rushed and interrupted us while we were eating and trying to have a conversation. more

ok dude, while the food is big and the menu has variety, seriously, i soooo would NOT eat there again. twice in a month we got the beetle salad. yep. big ole, honking beetle in our salad....and what did they do about it? not one thing. acted like so what? this was at the 183/lakecreek location. mgr jim was so rude. he prolly put the beetles in the salads.. lol\r \r unless you are into that extra touch of protein, keep movin'. no beetles for me. you can add the appropriate word for beetle. they won't let you use certain words here... why not? if i found one in my salad, can't i say it? more

Great place. Went with 7 people and spent around $50 (w appetizers, no desserts). We sat outside on the patio; the ambience was just really fun with fun 70s and 80s music playing. The waiter was attentive. Food was delicious! Pros: food, price, service Cons: wish there was a closer location! more

This family of four LOVES Cheddars!\r A great place for a great deal!\r The only place I know that our family can eat for less than 40.00 with Adult drinks and appetizer AND have leftovers!\r Oh and I love their Monte Cristo sandwich and their potato soup ? sandwich meal! Cheddar's is simply incredible. You'll see a lot of choices that you see at other similar restaurants, except that each item costs about a dollar less and the portions are huge. They have amazing half-pound burgers, philly cheesesteak, appetizers, sandwiches, and more. The value is so good that I can't think of going anywhere else for that kind of food. The atmosphere is terrific for families or a date, with really original vertical fans in the main area, dark woods, and enough noise to keep it friendly. Every time I've eaten there, the staff has been better than good, and I've never had a long wait personally. (If you have to wait, it's worth it, because word gets around when a restaurant is that good.) Oh, and their desserts are heavenly, too - huge and inexpensive. Try the Ultimate Cookie dessert - you'll go back just for that! Pros: Taste of food, Value, Friendliness Cons: Only one location more
