Amazing Vintage Clothing at Cheap Jack's\r I went to this store for the first time yesterday. I have to say it is definitely a walk through time. The garments are organized by Era and I was totally in heaven with my obsession with Victorian Era clothing. Anyone who knows the difference between VINTAGE versus THRIFT has to appreciate this store and the quality garments presented here. The owners are also so passionate about the garment here and bring to the table decades of experience. I actually spoke to one of the owners who even took the time to show me around personally. There are quite a few bad reviews online about this place, but I would rule this as definitely the exception. Many reviews speak of the prices but THIS IS NOT A THRIFT STORE, for top quality vintage clothing that is actually organized it is spot on. Online reviews also speak to the facilities, which I even asked the owners about since I saw these reviews and the story is there has been negligence on their landlords behalf, especially with moisture in the building etc. which you cannot guilt the business for. If you love vintage fashion (NOT THRIFT) definitely check this place out. more

nightmare vintage bridal experience 11/8/2010

I had a nightmare bridal dress experience in this store. I cannot recommend staying away from this place and its terrible staff enough!! I am a Columbia graduate student living in the city. Three of my college friends came into town and, since I am recently engaged, we were excited to go bridal dress shopping. I had been in Cheap Jack's before with my future mother-in-law and knew they had a few gowns (none of which turned out to be anything special), so we walked all day with the intention of finding it. \r \r A VERY pushy female employee who was eccentrically dressed in glasses and leopard print took the dresses back from us. When we asked to have a dress taken down to try on, her response was “After she tries on all of THOSE, then maybe we will see!” We felt her attitude was unprovoked but went to the dressing rooms anyway. As I started to put on the first dress I listened as she lectured my friends about not “playing” with the dresses, using belittling phrases like “do I make myself clear.” I was so hurt and offended that I was being pushed around in my first bridal dress experience that I decided we were leaving. As I angrily walked out the door this heinous employee, in all her professionalism yelled back “GET DIVORCED, SWEETIE!” \r \r I have never been rude to a salesperson and have never had an experience like this. We walked straight to the bridal area and, coupled with my firm date and engagement ring as well as the fact that we are adults in our mid-twenties, this employee had no reason to assume that we were 16-year-olds coming to “play with dresses.” I would hope that no store would want this kind of monstrous salesperson working for them, but ESPECIALLY a store that caters to brides looking for vintage dresses. I am shaking and near-to-tears just thinking about how boorishly I was treated in more

Amazing items taking you back in time 12/2/2009

Cheap jacks is certainly a gem of NYC. I went here not too long ago to find a Halloween costume and I spent a good hour or two just looking through all the beautiful items they had for sale. Everything was organized (no idea what the ""mess"" was about posted below). There was something for everyone here! From finding a piece or two to create a costume or for the shopper who likes to make their own statement, Cheap Jacks is a find! The staff was uber friendly and really knew their stuff and made finding a perticular item easy. For the vintage lover this is the place to go! Pros: Quality and selection of timeless pieces Cons: Could spent TOO much time looking around more

What a mess. 3/16/2009

Its a waste of time. This place is stocked with rubbish (look for Kmart tags) that are ridiculously over priced. The sales staff, if you can find someone cause I think only two people work the entire store are less informative and more pushy that Barney's. The dedor is a mess and the lighting is dreadful. This place is in serious need of a make over. I say skip it! Pros: Tons of stuff Cons: Nothing worth buying more

pricey, but great selection - great staff 4/30/2008

This is a super fun store to shop in, especially for the creatively-minded. Tons of selection and everything was well maintained and cleaned. No dusty, musty smelling racks of disorganized clothing. The staff is very stylish and knowledgable, however they have no pretensions and will go out of their way to help you put together the perfect outfit. They seem to really enjoy working their and helping people find what they're looking for. My only complaint is that the items are somewhat pricey - for example, it's rare to find any dress for less than $120 dollars - which can be steep for something old and used. However, there are some very beautiful, unique pieces at this store. Overall, one of my favorite places to spend a rainy afternoon!! more

Huge selection 12/7/2006

Jack's probably has the most extensive selection of vintage in the city - the place is huge. Its a little on the pricey side, but they have clothes there that are older than your grandma. I found a great leather jacket here, I will definitely stop back next time I'm in the area. Pros: Selection,Quality Cons: Pricey more
