The City of Reno demonstrated its lust for $$ and their own TV channels and their disregard for the citizens of Reno when they entered into a long term contract with Charter Cable. Part of this agreement was supposed to include citizen oversight' and improved customer service.
Unfortunately the only thing the residents of Reno got was a cable company which raises rates at every opportunity knowing your that they are basically your only option - unless you want to spend your time scraping snow off your satellite dish every winter.
There is basically NO customer service. Sales reps lie with impunity when you call to order the service, I was given a quote of $30 a month less than the actual charges and when I phoned to complain I was told that I was lying. I also got a 'late charge' because I was not charged enough initially and was not aware of it until the following month at which time I was 'dinged' with a late.
If you try to contact the 'citizen oversight' committee you will find that it basically does not exist. The link on the City of Reno website does not work, and emails go unanswered.
But perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel, AT&T has just gotten the city council to approve television over IP. I am not sure it will be cheaper, or better, but I know that a little competition might wake up the complacency of Charter execs who now spend their time counting their profits rather than concerning themselves with their customers
