This emergency clinic is shameful... It's a crime what they charge! Our dog passed away as we were pulling into the parking lot. I ran in to get someone. They took him in and asked if we wanted them to perform CPR. Of course we said yes. Of course the CPR didn't work. I am not even sure if they really did it. They charged us $452.00 for 3 minutes of CPR. How is that legal? They take advantage of grieving and vulnerable pet owners who would say yes to anything to save their pets from dying. They did not advise how much it would cost. Until they said they couldn't revive him. Then to add insult to injury, here is your $452.00 bill. Sorry we couldn't save your pet. I am just devastated and disappointed that this is even possible!! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/13/2013

Needed to take my cat to an emergency vet at 10 PM at night. I did a quick Google search and called a couple places. Who knows where to go when the time comes. Even though ""CVETS"" was farther from my house than another place, their staff answered the phone and were very helpful in our time of need. The rate was comparable to other ER vets at $93. \r \r Wonderful customer service:\r 1) Presented estimates and very patiently allowed us to make decisions before taking action. Also, presented us with multiple alternative treatment options.\r 2) Upon our request, the technicians were asked if they were comfortable administering injections and taking blood in the room with us and they agreed. We were used to that at our regular vet. They were so sweet and caring to our kitty.\r 3) Dr. Jess Hunter was knowledgeable and thorough. She took the time to explain everything, answer all our questions, as well as show us the x-rays. \r 3) CVETS followed up with us a few days later to check on how our cat was doing and sent us a card in the mail. Nice to know they care and you aren't only money to them. more

Love CVETS! 5/5/2012

Any kind of emergency at nearly midnight is never fun. But the entire staff at CVETS were awesome!!! Each tech that we spoke with was so helpful and understanding. Both vets that we spoke with took time to explain what was happening and what would come next. If your beloved 4 legged baby is in an emergency situation, you couldn't ask for a better place!!\r Thank you so much for making such a difficult situation a little easier! more

The Best 1/29/2012

We came in last night with our dog due to an injury caused by my other dog, it was after midnight Saturday. Male nurse came out to our car even before I came in that building, he carried him in the back. Receptionist was extremely sweet got my paperwork ready and put us in a room, offered drinks and even turned TV on for us. Dr. was very young but very informative, my dog needed to be put together, but it went well. I highly recommend them, they have given us the best service. more

Priorities 11/18/2010

Great place and friendly staff, at least the Christmas Eve night that we were there with our new puppy and our small children who were worried absolutely sick about her. The staff gave our kids cookies that Santa had left earlier that night and allowed them to pick the TV channel in the waiting room. Very comforting, which in our situation was as important for the children as anyone. The care for the puppy was great, too. We thought she might have broken a leg, and the clinic could have told us anything and we would have believed it....and although we had only had the puppy for about ten hours at this point, we were already in love and prepared to pay whatever was necessary to help her. The same is true now -- a year later -- as I am sure it is for most pet owners. \r \r I have read several reviews here that give the staff/clinic a very hard time for fees in excess of what the normal vet might have charged for a similar treatment. However, if you are concerned about what you're go more

Wonderful Clinic! 7/20/2010

I have taken my beagle Chris, twice now to this Emergency clinic. First for major surgery on a very bad hip dislocation which could not be resolved by just popping it back. And second this last week for a major obstruction (my boy steals socks and this time he couldn't expel it himself), he had major surgery and 8 ins of intestine removed and the good parts re-attached. \r Yes it might be costly (frankly it was a great estimate and we are not wealthy. But we did what we had to do. They did say when giving the estimate more charges can accrue if other actions are necessary to take. So frankly we were warned and accepted this when signing.\r The staff and Doctors at this clinic are wonderful people and they took the best care of Chris, making no bones that there is always a possibility of complications after major surgery. \r But he is marvelous several days later. Sulking with the cone on his head..but back to normal with a functioning stomach and and bowel within a few days.\r I highly re more

Quality After-Hour Care 6/21/2010

Yes, it is expensive. Yes, you have to pay upfront. However, when your pet is extremely sick/injured after typical vet hours, it is reassuring that there is a place where you can receive top notch services. My dog began coughing up blood around midnight, and, after rushing him to the er vet, it was determined that he needed surgery to remove a foreign body obstruction in his small intestines. He would likely not have survived until his vet opened in the morning. I was well informed of my dog's progress throughout his entire stay and was even able to go visit him while he recovered. The doctors were upfront about the charges--I had to sign an estimate before they began any treatment. Additionally, I was informed when the costs were nearing the upper end of the estimate. (However, we did not surpass the original estimate in the end.) I interacted with 4 vets from the clinic and numerous techs--all of whom provided quality care and information. Overall, the ER Vet is excellent a more

Unnecessary Surgery 6/3/2010

Nice facility, very nice people. However, the vet who saw my dog advised immediate surgery based on her review of his xrays (gastic obstruction). The vet who would have done the surgery was too busy, and by the time he got to my dog, the "obstruction" was gone. This was too close a call, and we won't be back. more

This place will NOT allow any animal to suffer, not even a pet rat! 5/24/2009

Every single time I have gone in with an emergency with my exotic animal that was suffering, not once had I been turned away. They either get the animal, regardless of the species, stable to keep if from suffering, or they will humanely euthanize it to put it out of misery. They are not cheap but look at the expenses they have to put out on a daily basis. Not only do they have to cover the wages of their employees, but they have a state of the art facility to pay for as well. This facility runs 365 days of the year, 24 hours a day. This cannot be cheap to operate. Taking your pet to the ER is like taking a human child to the ER at one of our many ER clinics. \r Do you know why these people cannot bill? Because so many people abused this privilege and never made good on their promise to pay which in turned ruined it for other people that would make good on their debts and pay as promised. So because of people that wanted something for nothing years ago when places like this would al more

RIP OFF - VERY, VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE 5/7/2009

This place is VERY EXPENSIVE and you should not take your pet there unless he or she is very close to dying. Our outdoor cat had an open wound that had become infected. Fearing the worse, we took her to this clinic. $1500 later and less than 24 hours later, she is back home and doing fine. I could have taken her to our regular vet and paid about $400-$500 for the same services.\r \r If you're pet has been hit by a car, is close to dying and you have lots of money, then go the Emergency Vet Clinic. But if your regular vet is open or if you can wait until the morning, go there instead. You're be glad you did. more

Staff Nice, but Dr. Schneider is a JERK 4/27/2009

Stay away from Dr. Schneider, he will talk down to you and take all your money for nothing. He thinks he is the greatest and actually referred himself right up there with God. Even if he could have cured my dog of cancer, I would not trust him at all. He never answered our question, wouldn't let us speak since he would interrupt you every time he wanted to talk about himself. He is a true meaning of a SOB. more

Positive Experience 4/25/2009

I got home from work around 8 pm on Thursday to find my 3 yr old mini dachshund with a huge cyst or bump right beside her tail. So as I am FREAKING out, I drove to the clinic in Matthews. By the time I got there, the cyst had ruptured and there was blood everywhere, so I was crying like a baby. From the front desk staff, to the tech, to the doctor - I feel I was treated with extreme compassion, (especially since I was a sobbing mess!) and they treated my dog very gently, which I really appreciated. The facility was very clean, and I was very pleased that my bill was far less than I expected. We always hear horror stories about emergency clinics costing a fortune, but I do not feel I was overcharged at all. Especially for the great care I received. I will certainly recommend this clinic to anyone, and even though I hope to never have to go back (for obvious reasons) it will be my first and only choice in case of an emergency. They will let your pet DIE, unless you are a Billionaire continued... 3/28/2009

So, they gave us no choice but to take him home and take him to the regular vet in the morning. We stayed up with him all night. Afraid that he would die any moment. In the morning he had his surgery. He was not recovering well. So, the regular vet suggested that we take him to this clinic for overnight observation, as the regular vet does not have 24/7 care. We asked if we could take him to another 24 hour hospital, but he said that he thought it would be in our dog's best interest to take him to this clinic because it was right across the street. Come to find out later, the regular vet is a shareholder with EVC. Was it really in the interest of our pet that he suggested to go over there again? Or does he get some benefit from referring patients there? After the surgery he began to leak fluid from his intestines at the surgery site, and began developing and infection. His prognosis was not good. We were told that he would need a 2nd surgery and he had only 10% chance of surviving. So, more

They will let your pet DIE, unless you are a Billionaire. 3/28/2009

We went to this vet THREE times. The second time my dog vomited his own feces up in front of the "Doctor" twice. They took xrays of his abdomen. He had excessive amounts of gas. He was lethargic and not eating. If you do your own research on the internet, these are classic signs of intestinal obstruction. He was misdiagnosed with Gastroenteritis. The next day my dogs continued to vomit his own feces. I took him to this clinic again. They finally diagnosed him with an intestinal obstruction. They told us that he needed surgery, which would cost $3500. They were unwilling to make payments arrangements, they would not accept a deposit and post dated check either. more

Dr. Dodd is one excellent doctor! 3/2/2009

When my little Yorkie was so sick, constant crying, blood in her stool, Dr. Dodd performed an ultrasound. The tiniest line showed up and she was able to surmise it was a 'foreign object.' She immediately took her to surgery and removed a small piece of plastic, no telling what it was or where it came from! Audrey recuperated!\r Dr. Dodd is 'the best' in my opinion!\r She also helped Audrey in January when she had an unusual drug reaction. This little dog has been through so much! The doctor was able to explain the reaction, kept her that afternoon to keep an eye on her and to give her extra fluids. Wow! You showed such compassion, empathy and a total love for dogs!\r Thank you Dr. Dodd!\r Linda and Audrey Elaine more

They saved my baby's life. 6/30/2008

When I first moved to North Carolina I had no vet to call when my 3 year old german sheppard became sick. She couldn't breathe. I called this hospital because there was no one opened and they told me to bring her in. They rushed her back and immediately starting working on her while I filled out the paper of information about her. \r The people was so kind and reassuring. They offered me water and checked on me often. I watched while I was waiting how they dealt with all the emergencys that came in. They were great! My baby stayed for 3 days being treated for canine influenza virus. Had it not been for these people I am sure that I would have lost her. I always felt welcomed when I visited with her. I was most impressed with their clinic and you can tell that they loved animals They all were so helpful and compassionate. Everyone I met smiled and talked to me about Baby.\r The doctors were informative and kept me updated about her condition. When we took her home they gave me a list t more

My personal experience 6/29/2008

Everyone knows that peoples' perceptions of things are often times situational. I do not doubt any of the other reviewers' pain and suffering when it came to the well-being of one of their animals (which resulted in personal attacks of this clinic), but I have a different way about getting the word out about people/places/businesses, etc. It is so easy to see the negative and overlook the positive in life. That is why I am writing today. Although my experience with this hospital happened over 13 months ago, the gratitude and respect I have for this place is forever continuous. A long time friend asked me if I would be willing to write here to express my true story. Since my original words of appreciation were written in a 'Thank You' card to staff and Doctors, I was more than happy to oblige the request in order to get the 'real' word out and not throw fictitious, venomous statements to any public viewers of this site.Long story short, I was treated kindly at arrival (with my Pug, Rona more

Great compassion. 6/15/2008

Recently, I had to make an emergency visit to Emergency Vet Clinic in the middle of the night when I heard my 6 year old lab cry out in pain. I found my 'baby' limping towards my front door and realized she had gotten out of my fenced yard and was struck by a speeding driver in the area - which of whom did not stop.Of course I was in a state of panic and managed to find the number for the ER hospital on the computer. I called to be sure of the availability of doctors and staff since I was sceptical to believe the listed hours of operation.I was greeted by the most calm-natured staff member on the phone who helped me gather my nerves and ensured that they were open 24 hours - 365 days a year.Just the manner in which the staff helped me through the situation and the compassion they showed towards me and my pet (who was in a great deal of pain) when I arrived at the hospital was exceptional and I would recommend this ER clinic in Matthews to anyone! more
