A church that encourages integrity, curiosity, and diversity 2/19/2011

Central is a church community that isn't afraid to challenge itself. Grounded in Christian principles of acceptance and tolerance, we encourage lively discussion about issues that affect our lives and test our faith every day, such as ecological sustainability, immigration, healthcare reform, other spiritual traditions, and parenting. The church offers everything from Sunday morning Bible study to midweek yoga classes. Central?s membership consists of families, singles, and retirees; of young (and not-so-young) marrieds and GLBT couples; of people whose political affiliations span both sides of the aisle (and beyond); of life-long Presbyterians, transplants from other denominations, and some who have yet to call an organized religion their own. If you are looking for a church with traditional worship services, but a refreshingly cosmopolitan approach to social issues and community-building, Central Presbyterian Church may be the place for you. more

A Message from the congregation 1/3/2011

CENTRAL, a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA) is a witness to God's love and grace revealing itself in creation through Jesus Christ. Central is an urban church that thrives on the diversity of people and perspectives in downtown Denver. We hold faith and reason in creative tension, yielding fresh understandings of fidelity to God. We strive to nurture community - both among our members and beyond our walls - giving meaning to the common good. Central's historic building is a sacred space, linking the past with the future. History Established in 1860 150 years after its founding in the early days of Denver, CENTRAL still strives to be a spiritual home in an ever-changing world. The church is committed to offering spiritual nurture and challenge to its members and making a difference in the Denver community. To learn about CENTRAL'S history and the foundation it's created for Denver and the Presbytery, visit our website, or just stop on by! CENTRAL is a church on the move! We're looking for people to join us who are hungry for something that will feed their minds and spirits, and suspicious of rigid institutions. CENTRAL Church is: A community shaped by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ A place where your life issues are taken seriously A place where you can connect with people exploring similar issues of life and faith A place where you can experience the presence of God more

Wonderful downtown church 1/3/2011

I've been a member of Central for over four years now, and love it. It's the perfect mix of a theologically-diverse, in some ways traditional, yet very open-minded, intellectual, warm, caring religious community. One reason so many members cite as attracting them to this church is our mission work-- our work to respond to the great need in our local community, and the global community. We seek to ""be Christ's hands and feet"" here on earth. For example, Central members years ago helped start New Genesis, the transitional homeless shelter housed in the church basement. We also helped found Central Visitation Program, a supervised visitation program that provides a safe and comfortable environment in which children and non-residential parents may visit. Central was also involved in founding Metro CareRing, a hunger relief organization that operates one of the largest food pantries in Denver and provides emergency and self-sufficiency services to those in need. We are GLBT friendly, and aside from that, offer many different interest groups for people to get involved in (women's groups, men's groups, 20s/30s group, young familes, etc.). We've got an excellent, excellent Christian Education program for young children, plus a youth group. For adults, there are several different intellectually stimulating offerings each week. I can't say enough about Central, but think this is enough for a review-- please come check us out to see for yourself! more
