We came to Central Coast Pet Hospital with our precious dog, Monkey. The service we received over the course of two days was truly exceptional and everyone we encountered was extr...

Worst

Worked there briefly. Disorganized, employees not always responsive to doctors. Loads of politics. Medical care ok but there are other options on the central coast.

out for $$$ 4/22/2014

These people are out for $$$$$$ my dog was hit by a car and my wife rushed him down there. His hind quarters were ran over i seen it with my own eyes. When i got to the ER they were giving him pain meds and charging us as they went. All they kept saying was they wanted to poke his trachea because his lungs were crushed and that "it was the only way to save him" they acted very sad when they said it was going to be $1500.00 for this procedure, which i would have believed if he actually needed it............I kept telling them NO i don't have that kind of $ they weren't going to work with us at all, they kept insisting to do the procedure like used car salesman! I kept telling them we would take our chances and take him home. The negativity just continued that he would never make it and even if he did he would never walk on and on and on. I started to become very upset because i knew they were exaggerating, they then continued to try and talk us into putting him down and said they would more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/14/2013

The public needs to be warned that the vet, (the only male vet on staff) who works after-hours at this clinic, has severe anger management issues. He actually kicked my very sick dog and I out at 0200 because I asked him to stop patronizing me, which he had been doing in a very cruel manner. He put his feelings before professional conduct and committed an egregious act - my poor dog could have died from blood poisoning, bowel obstruction or stroke ( I found out the next day). Pls., before you run to this clinic, read the other nurse's review on Yelp (filtered) about him. Thanks! Be very wary, and I will will work on getting him sanctioned for animal abuse more

Vet Dan Terhaar is a rogue vet 5/28/2013

He is just posing as a vet because no professional would ever do the shocking thing he did to my dog and I: he actually got mad at me for mentioning the half-hour wait ( I was told ten minutes by a clerk with the flattest demeanor I have ever seen) and for finally asking him to stop patronizing me (his revenge for the "wait" comment.) Then, his ultimate revenge for my "stop patronization" request was to actually ignore my very sick dog at his feet and kick us both out at 0200. Most shocked I've ever been in my life, and my trust in medical professionals is so eroded, I'll be traumatized for life. Meanwhile, my poor dog could have died from blood poisoning for him not giving her antibiotics, could have become paralyzed from an untreated stroke, and could have had an intestinal blockage with all of it's complications. Very scary, and I will be reporting him to the proper authorities. In the meantime, folks, run to Atascadero after hours as fast as you can! Godspeed! more

Boo 3/24/2012

The Staff here was amazing and very helpful when my daughter and I brought in our 4 year old lab mix Boo....We didn't get the news we were hoping for and had to say good bye to him...They were very compassionate and understanding to our feelings....Would like to say Thank you for your compassion... more

Thank you. 12/30/2010

We came in Christmas night after 10:00. Our sweet cat of 21 years was going downhill fast. We were met by wonderful people who took great care and love with Misty. We knew her future. We were able to be with her as she lay in a soft bed, covered to stay as warm as possible.\r We received a paw print three days later. Nothing was expected, but the card and remembrance was a special extra.\r I feel blessed to have remembered them at this hard time. Thank you. more

Excellent 2/23/2010

Great service. I came in with my kitty who had been attacked by a dog. I was seen right away and they really took the time to explain everything. I was terrifed and they helped me to remain calm. Cant say enough... more

Our Dachshund twisted her spine and could not move her rear legs. We immediately took her to The Pet ER for treatment and the next morning she showed signs of movement.Three days later she decided to walk. \r http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qD1JEHaw2Ww\r The Pet ER gave Brandy another chance at 16 years of age. more

Quick, Compassionate and kind 7/3/2008

I was fostering 5 kittens (about 3 weeks old) and 1 kitten (the smallest) was gasping for air at 5:30 a.m. and I rushed him to A.G. Emergency next to K-Mart in A.G. and they took him right in and did the best they could to save him. It was too late to save him, but I really appreciated their compassion and kindess as I was so, so upset. I highly recommend their services when you have a pet emergency during the night or weekends. Five stars all the way!\r Thank you, team!\r \r Julie O. more

Best vet in San Luis Obispo area by far!!! 5/2/2008

I had gone to my regular vet within minutes of discovering my dog had gotten into foxtails and they had given such a cursory exam that I ended up at the emergency later getting tested and exmamined more throughly by Dr Parra essentially doing what my former vet failed to do.Dr Parra took time to check everything on my dog talking to me about her aging and developing arthritis, her enlarged spleen and blood tests irregularities and advised me on followup and gave me referrals to specialists. \r \r I can't express just how much better a vet Dr Anita Parra is than who my former regular vets were (at Animal Care Clinic in SLO) but in that one visit \r Dr Parra did more than my regular vet had done in a half dozen visits. more

When Your Pet is Hurt 12/24/2007

What a relief to know where is a reliable vet ER you can take your pet to in an emergency. The facility is clean, well manned by polite individuals and appears to have all the equipment they need to take care of your dog.\r My experience with the doctor's manning the facility has been good. They are quick and efficient.\r Yes, ER care does cost more, but the staff lets you know in advance in estimate of charges so you have no surprises when you walk out.\r For me, it is a comfort to know this facility is available to us after my vet goes home. more

Central Coast Pet Emergency 11/30/2005

Wouldn't trust anyone else, I've had to make a couple of emergency stops here with my cats and dogs and have always had the best treatment available. Friendly, knowledgable staff who do their best. A bit expensive but who can put a price on their pet's health in an emergency? more
