BEWARE! Not Christ-like. Mean -spirited and cult-like!
After the Bastrop fires, I was financially strapped and went to the church looking for SOAP to do laundry. I was boarding dogs for free for fire victims but had spent all of my money on gas and food during the time I was evacuated and on a hot water heater that had burned out due to electrical surge when I returned home and turned the power back on. I needed the soap for my clothes but also for bedding for the dogs.
When I asked for soap, a boy at the church went and got the head volunteer at the church who looked at me suspiously and said that their soap was put aside for them, acted like I was trying to steal the offering plate, interrogated me, and when I got upset, started calling me defensive and said when people get defensive it meant that something was wrong. The rest of the group looked at me like I was a devil. And I felt like a tired, hungry, dirty, rejected leper after that.
All over a bottle of laundry detergent. What if I had asked for real help???
They did shelter fire victims and they do have a homeless trailer house for 9 people, so I thought they were good people. Now I wonder what is really going on over there both spiritually and financially. That wasn't Christian, compassionate behavior.
Another church in the area out on Hwy 71 cheerfully gave me the soap, comforted me, and offered to help in any way they could.
I left a message and an email for the pastor of Celebration, but I never heard back. What a bunch of jerks!
