Great Art Museum 11/30/2005

The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is housed in a really neat looking building on 3rd Ave SE. It is a nice museum considering the size of Cedar Rapids. The parking lot is located behind the museum on 2nd Ave Se. Right now, the Grant Wood display is going on. It is really a great event! Not to be missed! My kids even enjoyed it though I think that my daughter liked the gift shop best. more

Good Museum 8/11/2005

The mission of the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art is to excite, engage and educate the community in the visual arts through our collection, exhibitions and programs. They do a good job of achieving their mission. They have interesting stuff and manage to do a good job of avoiding falling into the Grant Wood trap since they are in the heart of Grant Wood country. more

Fun and educational 8/6/2005

My children and I always enjoy a visit to the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. It is easy to find – located across the street from Green Square Park in downtown Cedar Rapids – and I am always able to find a convenient parking place. The recent exhibit on Roman art and culture was very interesting and the audio tape tour was an added bonus. We also enjoy seeing the works of local artists such as Marvin Cone. It’s a fun and educational way to spend a hot summer afternoon. more

Cool Museum 7/22/2005

When I went to this Museum there was large Roman Exibit on display. The attention to detail was great and I Iearned alot about that ancient culture. There were alot of actual artifacts on display. The museum gave out self guided tours on CDs instead of having a live tour guide. Excellent gift shop for such a Museum of this size with really cool gifts. more

Roman Art 7/15/2005

I visited this art museum when the Roman exhibit was there. It was very interesting to see the statues from ancient times. During a craft for children, the museum was giving out ancient coins donated by a local bank. Very neat keepsake for the children. There is a gift shop with items from local artists as well as purchased gift items. more

Quiet place 7/13/2005

I really liked the entry way of this building. The tall foyer with the large plants. Very elegant. The tone of this place is very quiet. If you can get a guided tour it is worth it to find out more information about the paintings and the artists themselves. The Grant Wood exhibit was very interesting. more

Families free on Thursdays 7/12/2005

This is a place that is not really toddler friendly. They would loose interest very quickly. Be sure to call ahead to find out what the current exhibit is. They do have rotating exhibits. The gift shop is nice to look at but pricey. They do feature local artist’s wares in the shop. more
