RUN AWAY WHILE U CAN! 8/24/2011

I heard about cave man from a friend so I just had to go get me some grub...Big mistake! the trash was overflowing onto the ground and smelled horrible!!!! As if that wasnt bad enough flies were buzzing and landing all around me like a alfred hitchcock film. At this point my food had already been orderd so I had little choice since I didnt want to waste my money in this enonomy. if my gut had not been weakened by the smell I would have listened to it! beans tasted plain, but what got me was that my chicken was raw! gross!!! i'm never eating here again. more

Is now CK's Smokehouse 7/15/2011

They're reopened under a new name CK's Smokehouse (family issues taking on the old name) but it's the same family recipes with a 3rd generation grand daughter now running the place. It's just as good if not better!!! Open 7 days a week, 10:30 - 8 Thank you Marlis, your grandfather would be proud! more

They have lost it 6/14/2009

The Caveman Kitchen used to be very good when the original owner was still alive. They have lost the technique he had for ribs. I bought a pound of ribs today and they were the toughest I have had anywhere. I could not eat them, and threw them away. Awful. This is so sad. The Caveman used to be the best little rib joint in Kent. Those days are over. I have never had such lousy ribs, and the price was not cheap. Fool me once..shame on you. Fool me twice....well...you won't fool me twice. Pros: Good beans Cons: Terrible ribs more

My family has brought their fresh caught salmon to Caveman since the 70s! You can't beat Caveman's smoking... YUM. It's been many years since I've personally been there, but for anyone who has grown up in Western Washington and has many many generations of family in Western Washington we know this is truely a local staple. This place is a little rough around the edges but has all the fixin's for great eats! They make everything from scratch and by hand so this is some down home cookin'! I've read some unfavorable reviews about the sauce but I think its wonderful-Compliments the meat without taking over the flavor! Genius!!! And the price that you pay for what you get is awesome too! An 8"" sandwich with 2 sides for under $12, find that at Quiznos! I know they've been around for some time (70's?!!) for good reason and I hope they're around for alot longer! Come one come all! Pros: Even the decor is to love, can't get anymore ""Caveman"" than picinic tables indoors! Cons: Majority of parking is across the parking lot more

Smoked Meats 12/28/2007

We ordered 37.5 lbs of smoked turkey and ham for my husbands employees for Thanksgiving and it was fantastic! We kept our fingers crossed because if the meat wasn't good, there was going to be alot of people very angry with us. Didn't order any sides so I can't say what those taste like but the meat was great. Overall, excellent smokiness - extremely reasonable - will be ordering meat for Thanksgiving again next year. They catered a work party recently and most were not too impressed(especially those who eat and cook BBQ). The ribs were tender with lots of meat but their sauce was just....wrong. Didn't taste like BBQ sauce. Tasted more like ketchup with spices. Their Baked Beans were runny and lacked any real flavor, especially compared to other BBQ places like The Generals in Kent. The bright spots were their potato salad, which was pretty darn good, and their smoked chicken, which, while a little dry, was unbelievably flavorful and the leftovers made excellent sandwiches the next day. Way over rated 6/4/2006

I've been to the caveman twice for lunch in the past year becuase coworkers rave about how good it is. I got the beef sandwich and dragon wheels both times. Almost no meat on my sandwich, the little meat there was bland, the barbeque sauce is tasteless, and even though the dragon wheels are good - they are overpriced for the little food you get. I just don't understand how anyone can consider this a good barbeque place. Trust me, go somewhere else for lunch. Cons: Overpriced, Tasteless Barbeque more

This food here is terrible. I got the pork sandwich, and it was loads of bread with very little meat on it. And to top it off, the BBQ sauce was a glorified mustard sauce. And the price for all this? Regardless of other posts, this company has catered a few events I have attended. Absolutely wonderful! Chicken and pork are the best, ribs are better than most expensive sit down restaraunts around. more

Satisfies the craving 8/30/2002

I used to live in Montgomery, Alabama, and comparing BBQ there to what is served at CMK reminds me of the *only* thing I miss about Alabama. There's just no comparison. While the pork cubes were tender with no chewy pieces of fat, the serving that came with the meal seemed a little sparse. My wife really liked the BBQ sauce, while I likended it more to something one would be served in a school cafeteria. The potato salad was fine, but heavy on the pickle. The beans were darn good, and I suggest, as others have, to try the dragon wheels. My kids thought the BBQ beef sandwhich was good, and they can be pretty picky. Don't bother ordering the chicken. I haven't tried the other menu items, but I think I'll go back again. If you ever find yourself in Alabama, try the Smokehouse restaraunt in Wetumpka. Pros: Good pork, Good beans Cons: So-so BBQ sauce, bad parking more
