Cato's Ale House 7/6/2006

I agree that Cato's is a great place to eat. There is a terrific variety of items on the menu--pizza is just one. The Nachos are amazing! My son lives not far from Cato's and we eat there at least once during my visits. I have been there when some great musicians are playing Irish music. I don't know if there is a schedule for that or if it is impromptu. Once again, wonderful place! more

Best. Pizza. Ever. 6/10/2006

I don't even drink, and I love Cato's. All right - they have a wide selection of really good ales, from Newcastle to That Microbrew You've Never Heard Of, but that's not the point. As far as I'm concerned, the point is the pizza with artichoke hearts. I will eat here any day for that pizza. It has all the regular signs of Pizza-y Goodness, plus it is TOTALLY SLATHERED with artichoke hearts. Not like those places that just put a few on top and call it an artichoke heart pizza. Totally covered. All over. I never go here, and do you know why? There is always someone in any group of people who will say, "If we wanted to get pizza we could have just stayed home and ordered delivery!" DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS PERSON. They are horribly wrong, and must go to Cato's to learn the error of their ways - preferably immediately. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
The bright lighting, historic boxing and baseball photos, and wood decor make for a laid-back watering hole. The crowd is diverse; college kids, couples, solo older men and off-duty professionals huddle around wooden tables. Unlike most standard bars, it's busiest after work and calm on the weekends. There's never a cover charge.

    The Draw
On various nights of the week, the sounds of live jazz, bluegrass or Latin groups meld with the chatter into a loud, rumbling hum. Liquor isn't available, but there are 23 beers on tap (mostly American microbrews), hard cider and a decent wine selection--all possibilities that could go well with the house-made vegetarian chili, pizza and burgers.
