My husband has been unemployed since Dec, 2009. The only source of income that we have at this time is mine's (Wife). My income alone can not provide for a family of five (5), two adults, and our two children, one child who is under the Autism Specturm. However, since my huband has been unemployed now going on 3 months, I could not cover our family financial expenses of, rent, food transportation, family personal needs, etc. We have tried finding help from 211, being refered to: Echo housing, Eden Housing, Salvation Army and last but not least, we found Catholic Charites. In fact my husband went down to Catholic Charities: 1st time filled out the application; we were not selected: The 2nd time, filled out the application: we were not seclected. The 3rd and final time, filled out an application, my husband received a phone call, did all that was required. Everything sound and looked positive for us, because Catholic Charties, (Oakland), told my husband that they can't help us with our back rent because we are now far behind, but that they can help us with moving into a new place if we were to find one. Well, we did find a new place to live; a place that would be affordable based on my income, but when my husband presented all the necessary documents of my monthly income to Catholic Charities, because I made $300.00 more over the required capp, the woman told my husband that she don't know if they (Catholic Charities) can help us, but she would give him a call back to let us know.
