I have read all the poor reviews from people with a beef or Yankee visitors looking for a stuffy seafood restaurant. My answer to them is please stay away so the rest of us can enjoy a great meal. This place is about as rustic and comfortable as it gets. Wear your jeans, shorts and flip-flops and eat the freshest seafood in south Florida. Yes, they have fried seafood for us rednecks not concerned with their health and they have broiled seafood for those of you like my wife who is health conscious. The staff is outstanding and you will not go broke dining here. The one draw back is the parking but they do have attendants helping you find a spot. Yes, the parking can be a pain that is because the place is so freaking good. We love this place. more

I was here a few years ago much better. The placed smelled funny, need all the carpets ripped out, and the whole place hosed down, starting with the rest room, my hands almost stuck to the door. Everything is sticky table cloth, menu etc. There is a weird smell in the air. Otherwise the food is good if you like fried sea food, kids liked the ribs. more

I'm a Florida native and an experienced cook, as were both my parents, so I grew up knowing how Florida seafood should be prepared and how it should taste. \r \r Pros: The fried shrimp are prepared well, lightly battered/breaded and NOT overcooked, a rarity at most restaurants. I was never a fan of fried catfish until I ate Catfish Deweys', now I'm a convert. It is ALWAYS freshly prepared, and again, NOT overcooked. I love their baked potatoes, not that they do anything special to them; they're wrapped in foil but for some reason they always seem extra yummy. The fries are crinkle-cut and always freshly cooked and piping hot. The only suggestion I would make would be to season the batter/breading on the fried shrimp and catfish. Some Cajun spice or even just salt and pepper would work wonders. The hushpuppies have a good balance of sweet and savory but are a tad heavy for my taste; I prefer a lighter, fluffier hushpuppy.\r \r Cons: Deweys, I love the shrimp and fish, but something must, must MUST be done about the smell. This is the reason why I absolutely never eat in, but always call ahead for takeout. Eating in is comparable to dining in a roadside gas station restroom. It's just inexcusable. The restrooms are located near the entrance, so you can't not notice that smell. I don't know if it's mold, or mildew, or just plain urine covered up with Lysol, but there's no way to sit at the bar and tolerate the odor. It's all I can stand during the brief time I stand at the bar to pay for my takeout. My advice is to carry out, or eat as far from the restroom as possible. more

The staff here was friendly and prompt. If you are looking for catfish like mama used to make this is the place. The ambiance was very homey and a little cheesy but in a very sweet sort of way. Nothing pretentious here just good eats in a family environment. The kind of place your not afraid to really did in. more

GREAT FOOD GREAT SERVICE. We were sent down from NY State DOT for clean up after hurricain Willma. Once we found Deweys we went every chance we got. FRIENDLY and great atmosphere. Was the best place I have found to eat in all of FLORIDA. Went on a cruise in 2006 and drove up from MIami to eat there again and it was AWSOME food. Going back for a cruise in Feb. 2007 and made hotel reservations in Fort Lauderdale just so we could eat there again. I wont miss gong there for the CATFISH. I dont eat seafood yet I LOVE the CATFISH at Deweys Small parking lot but well worth the search for a place to park. They have the absolute best food there. The service was friendy and good and the food was EXCELLENT every time we went. DONT GO TO FORT LAUDREDALE WITHOUT GOING TO DEWEYS. Anyone that I have taken there has loved the food and the service. Oh and the prices are good too. YOU will get MORE than your moneys worth. MUCH more Pros: THUMBS UP Cons: small parking lot more
