Word of Caution 5/7/2010

Although the park does have some great views and trails, beware of the dangers of your surroundings. The Meramec River has some strong undercurrents near the park. It is not good for swimming even if you are experienced. There have been several drownings in the park area over the years due to these undertows. And the cliffs are wonderful but have alot of unguarded edges so use caution with hiking or sightseeing. Also, the park sometimes is home to drug dealers and undesirables. You really have to be cautious of your belongings and children at times. Basically, on a good day, the park is a great place to picnic, play frisbee, hike or play on the playgrounds. Fishing is sometimes good. But be sure to trust your judgment on those around you to protect yourself and your loved ones. more
