It's a great neighborhood joint. We go there often and it is consistently good (both food and service). Don't worry if it's not on the menu because as long as they have the ingredients, they will make it for you. You are never rushed, and the ""on the house"" grappa tops off the meal. I live in the neighborhood and I've eaten at Castel Mare a few times. I think the quality of the cooking is top notch. Prices are low and I've had nothing but great experiences there. Pastas are delicious - with seafood, chicken and vegetables are favorites. They have a large variety of pasta, you can even make one up if you like.I like the lasagna with meat inside but I keep hoping there will be 2 on the plate. Entrees are all about the meat for me - the pork chop is excellent and well charred. The chicken rollatini has pancetta which is yummy . Yes, it gets very busy. It's also smaller than you think and hard to get a reservation on the holidays. Overall, a great neighborhood restaurant and just what the area needs. more

I would highly recommend the Castel""Mare Ristorante. I was recently there for a family event (Grandmas 50th Anniversay) and had a chance to sample many of their dinner entrees. While I was very impressed with the Chicken Marsala, Chicken Francaise and Filet Mignon, It was the Penne Pescatore that made the night. It was the best pasta dish I have ever had (and I live in Little Italy of the Manhattan and would highly recommend it. And no night is complete without dessert. Again, I had a chance to sample several of the desserts, and I was pleased with all of them, especially the several flavors of sorbet. All and all, you can not pass up the opportunity to eat at Castel""Mare Ristorante. I needed to arrange a dinner for 37 coworkers for our annual Christmas party. Castel'Mare was able to handle a group of this size well in the semi-private side area. Servers were extremely attentive to ensuring drinks were kept full, and that food was presented hot. The fixed group menu had an excellent variety and a reasonable price. The focaccia was the best many had ever had. Also, the selection of wines was great. Whether dinner for two or a group of 40, you'll be happy here. I've been to Castel' Mare several times. It never fails, as the food is always exquisite and the service is always on point. The times that I have been there the chef came out to greet his customers and to make sure everything was just right. To me, this illustrates that this is a quality restaurant. Also, the menu is more of a guideline to point out the chef's specialities. However, no special request is ever denied. They have always accomodated my special requests.
