I started gymnastics when I was three years old, and ever since then I was stuck on the sport.
When I was fourteen years old, I switched from my original gymnastics center to Cascade All Stars to be around more kids my age. Switching to Cascade All Stars was a life changing experience for me.
As everyone knows, gymnastics is very draining on your body. With all the gymnastics training going on (four days a week, four hours a day), I started to acquire some back pain. I could feel nerves getting pinched off in my lower back at the same time I felt waves of shock run down my leg. My floor assignment for the day was to do five routines, back to back and if I fell, I would have to start over. As I was running into my first pass, I fell straight to the ground. My coach L*** (the owner) told me to get up and do it again. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't run without falling. I told her it hurt really bad and all s he replied was ""Lizzy, its always one thing after another with you"" I continued to do my floor routines in tears. How safe. My step dad came to pick me up and saw me crying. He could tell my back hurt and was very angry at L*** for allowing me to continue when I couldn't run without falling.
The next day, I went to my scheduled doctors appointment with my chiropractor. X-Rays showed that I had scoliosis, two compression fractions, thinned out discs, permanent nerve damage and that my spinal cord was being pinched off, which was causing me to fall and get the shock waves sent down my leg. I was told that I was lucky I was not paralyzed from the waist down and that if I continued to do gymnastics, I would eventually be in a wheel chair paralyzed from the waist down. This could of been prevented if she would of let me sit out when I told her it was bothering me, instead of pretty much calling me a liar.
After confronting L*** about what the x-rays showed, I never recieved an apology for her not believing me when I told her I was having pain. She, then turned around and told all my team-mates and parents at the gym that I had quit gymnastics because of my boyfriend and that I am a horrible kid.
When ever I see her at gymnastics meets when I am watching my boyfriends sister, she ignores me and acts like I am not there. (Like a child)
I remember when I first joined the team, I was asked to sign a contract like the rest of the girls agreeing to no drinking, using drugs, calling when you are going to be late/not come to gymnastics, no bailing out in the middle of a skill, no crying, ECT. It always made my laugh that we had to sign a contract saying not to drink after there was a team sleepover at L*** house and she was drunk out of her mind in front of the whole team....What a great example! I have since heard many worse things like driving a boat drunk at the team campout and sleeping with dads at the gym.
I have also spoke with two different ex-employees of this gym saying they received a letter from a ""parent"" complaining, when the employees confronted the parents about the letter they received, they denied it. Turns out, Lexy was writting the letter to the employees and acting like a concerned parent.
During my time at this gym, I saw so many injuries, one of them even led to a surgery.
I wanna thank L*** for contributing to back injuries that will never go away. I now can not run, sit for long period of time or do any activity involving compression. I had to give up my future of gymnastics. Thank you for lien to the team about why I left. The best thing that ever happened to me at this gym was meeting my boyfriend of three years now, through his sister that is on the team.
