well not so great 7/30/2011

My daughter was denied entrance at 1pm because she had a 13 day old baby with her. This place is listed as a bar and restaurant with sidewalk sitting on a city sidewalk. They were rude and dismissive. I will NEVER go back to this franchised bad place in my neighborhood of 30 years. more

Fun and Unique place 5/26/2011

This place is a lot of fun. Leave the kids at home and check this spot out. Very unique and their happy hour is amazing. Probably my favorite spot in the summer time. They open up the floor to ceiling windows which is great. more

not worth the time 10/5/2010

I have been to this restaurant twice now, and was severly disapointed both times. The service is horrible. First time I was there all we wanted was drinks, we probably would have ordered over a hundred dollars in drinks, but our waitress never came around. Second time same problem. I was there for a birthday, and our plan was to get dinner and drinks. We were seated and about 5-10 minutes later the waitress came over to take our drink order and food order. I told her we were there for a special occasion, and to please come by because we were going to be ordering a bunch of drinks. She went to the kitchen to put the order in, and I swear I didn't see her until she brought the check. Runners brought the food out and that was that. After all of that I got one drink, when I would have ordered a bunch. It's hard to believe they stay in business.\r \r The bacon wrapped jalopeno's are amazing I do have to admit that. \r \r Overall don't waste your time or Money. more

I've always had a great experience here 7/10/2010

I usually go here with friends for their happy hour 4pm-6pm and 10pm-1am. Their menu is awesome, it's not quite authentic tex-mex, but let's face it authentic tex-mex is actually cheap in price because it's cheap. Most mex dishes were designed to be cost effective. Fresh shrimp quesadillas from the happy hour menu are awesome and the goat cheese stuffed jalapenos are so tasty. They taste like they are fire roasted, they are wrapped in bacon (always a plus) and they have a good kick to it. The happy hour nachos are slightly bigger than a TGIF's or Applebee's nachos but way tastier. They have actual flavor to them and the black beans instead of refried beans are a plus, however they normally don't come with any meat, you can add it for more though. My only downside with this place is they don't have Patron and they call themselves a Tequila Bar? HA. This place can be seemed pricey for it's quantity, but as a person who's enjoyed REAL food in more than 30 states I know the difference between a $10 steak taste and a $40 steak taste. I love steak, but the $40 steak is almost always worth it and truly you discover how food is supposed to taste, you just can't eat that way everyday. Pros: Great happy hour food menu Cons: Can be pricey, but no Patron. Tequila bar no Patron? more

Great place for late night drinks & eats 1/21/2010

Casa Del Matador opened a couple of years ago. I usually find myself going there either on a Sunday night, or week night after 10 pm when nothing else seems to be open. The space is nice, especially in summer, when the windows are open.\r Service is always nice and friendly. Food is what you'd expect from a corporate restaurant. Basic Mexican. Not really good. Not horrible. Wine pours are generous. Pros: Open late Cons: Food is not fresh more

Disappointed.... 12/23/2009

I had been hearing great things about this place so when a gentleman friend of mine asked to take me to Mexican I suggested Casa Del Matador. I checked out the menus online before heading there. Happy Hour seemed cheap and tasty; the dinner menu a bit pricey but we decided to give it a shot.\r We were greeted by a friendly waitress. "" Hi. How are we doing? Do you both have your ID's on you?""\r No problem except for the fact we hadn't been seated in the bar but the freezing cold dining room. I understand the ID check but was a bit confused by the urgency.\r I ordered a glass of white rioja, my date a rootbeer.\r I was delivered a glass of red. I unfortunately had to send it back. \r UH OH, I thought. Mmmmm. Not a good sign for a wrong order in the first 10 minutes of being there but as a former server we all have those days.\r My date and I ordered two taco plates. I chose the carnitas plate at 10.95 and he had the carne asada plate at 11.95.\r The food seemed to come quickly but for what ever reason it was cold. Not ice cold but lets just say the beans were the hottest freshest item on the plates, which consisted of ONLY 2 taco's( meat, lettuce, less than a dab of SC) black beans and rice, and a lame excuse for what might have been pico de gallo.\r I will say that the carnitas was seasoned nicely with cinnamon and bay leaves, probably better when it's HOT.\r We finished what we could as we both were starving when we arrived. I think I lost my appetite after the 3rd bite.\r Our waitress cleared our plates and asked my date if he would like another rootbeer. He declined and off she went leaving me with that sad face you get when you take that last swig of wine and alas there is no one insight untill they come with the bill.\r SIGH.\r Our bill consisted of the taco plates(10.95, 11.95) A bottle of rootbeer (2.50) and 2 GLASSES OF WINE, one of which was still on my bill which i had sent back because it wasn't what I ordered!\r Again\r SIGH.\r She politely removed the wine charge and our bill then came to $32.40. We left her 44 cash.\r \r OVERALL:\r I might try this place for happy hour.\r Food is sub par and far from authentic. Try Chili's but overpriced. The service was casual but toooooo casual for the food and drink prices. The decor is interesting but is a extravagant facade for overpriced MEXICAN FOOD?\r I think I will stick with Santeria's for cheap authentic and El Gaucho, where for another 20 bucks I will get my moneys worth and my tummy will leave satisfied. Pros: Great atmosphere Cons: sub par food and service more

Great tequilla, Good atmosphere, Fun service 11/1/2009

My experience here was great. I love the atmosphere and the candles. Everyone was very helpful and attentive. The bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly. If u want good drinks and good food and a fun fire matador is your place. Pros: Attentive, timely service, good food Cons: Sometimes hard to find seating at the bar more

I LOVE BROCCOLINII!!!!! 8/2/2009

Ok, so I LOVE the food and the atmosphere but every time I go there I have to ask to be seated. They ignore you if you're at the door, waiting...... and waiting.. until you ask them if it's self seating.. then they say no and ask you if you needed a table..... and then you say yes... and then you have a walk to the table... it's just.. odd..\r \r BUT, in general I really do love this place! Pros: Great Food, Great Tequila! Cons: Service is a little slow... more

Agreed, horrible management, bad food too 6/12/2009

In a nutshell, I agree with the other reviewer. Although I didn't see management screaming at their employees, I personally had a horrible experience. I rode my bike there, but since I didn't have a lock, I asked if I could set it against the wall (practically behind a curtain) and between my 6 person party's table and the wall. In other words, out of the way, and in no danger of being stolen (it is a fairly valuable racing bike). The first pregnant waitress said, ""I don't see why not"" while another waitress scowled at me and muttered that she ""would go check the policy."" She returned to inform me it would be better left outside... Whatever. They are trying to keep their place looking a certain way--or something. (Even though it was then resting against the outside of the building). Imagine my surprise when my group had finished paying our bill (with me nervously scanning outside the entire time) and in walks a woman wearing a white sports bra (nipples visible and all), black booty shorts and nothing else, walking a rat--er--small ""dog"" on a leash and is seated inside the restaurant. What ever happened to ""No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service""? Their ""no bike hidden out of site policy in favor of half-naked woman with a dog"" policy seems to be working quite well. Last time I checked, isn't it against health code to have an animal inside a restaurant? Unless you are actually blind or somehow disabled? I am also a pet owner, but I find this absolutely disgusting, especially since it is obvious these rat-dog accessories in NW Portland are not ""service dogs."" Oh yeah, and the food was sub-par. (Burnt nachos? Come on!) There are so many good places to eat in Portland, don't waste your time at the places with identity crises, practicing blatant hypocrisy. Pros: Uhh, they have chairs? Cons: If you give them your money you will regret it. more

Do Not Go To This Place! 5/7/2009

I went to the Casa Del Matador on the east side which is fairly new and the place looks awesome and the food is okay but I would NEVER go to this place again! The management is absolutely horrible and SOOOO unprofessional! I literally saw the female manager screaming at the staff and one girl even cried! That is so ridiculous! They are serving food not operating on someones brain! Its not even a big deal if an order is messed up, it can easily be fixed! Why treat your coworkers so horribly! I do not support any establishment that acts so unprofessional and are so rude to the staff! I felt so uncomfortable! Never go here! more
