My wife and I went to the Spring, TX store today, we wanted to buy something for home defense. First time buyers, first time buying any type of guns and stuff like that. We were clueless but we are glad Mr. Chris was super nice, calm and helpful to our questions, he even let us shoot just to have a better idea what to expect when using our new shotgun. He was focused in our safety and make us feel comfortable all the time. My wife was a bit nervous because she is pretty peaceful, but she knows in case of emergency we need to defend ourselves, Chris show her how to shot too and explained everything she needs to know, he gave us lots of tips. more

I have used their range since 1989 and never had a problem. Lot of good deals on trade in gun stuff around hunting season. My Ruger 9mm was purchased from Carter's at a great price. Make sure you have a set of ear plugs with you cause it can get loud! I may try to get my CHL on one of these weekends. more

Was in the store a couple of weeks ago with my son. Gentleman that waited on us was knowlegable and spent over 40 minutes with us answering all our questions. There prices are good with the exception of any kind of ammunitation. They are extreemely high priced in that area. Bring you own or by some on the way at Academy. Range is excelleant run safely. Have purchased a number of firearms from them with no Issues. more

I have been coming to you store to browse for guns and purchase ammunition for almost 15 years. I came in on July 4th to get a trade in value on my Sig P230 Stainless Steel pistol and purchase a .40 Cal if I could get the right deal. This is when I met Matt Petway. I have never met someone more knowledgeable, more helpful, more patient in my shopping experience (which was required because I must have asked no less than 75 specific questions?I still feel bad but he repeatedly said over and over ?that is why we are here, what else would you like to know?---and he truly meant it). He made me feel fantastic about my purchase, feel good about my trade and we made the deal. First arms purchase I have made in 15 years and many have tried and failed. Not Matt. My girlfriend and I left and my exuberance was short lived. I bought the Springfield .40 Cal and after 1 round it gammed. Cleared the chamber, one shot and it jammed. Changed magazines to the short, shot through three and it jammed. Then it jammed on the eject. Really had a tough 24 hours after spending all that money but when I walked in, told Matt what happened, really upset, told him I n\had NO confidence in the weapon and in the manufacture and wanted to look at only Glock after speaking to some people and he looked at me and said ?Scott it all right, we are going to make this 100% perfect, what do you want to look at?let?s get started buddy?. Within 45 minutes, I was back to happy, had spent another 200.00 dollars and am 100% satisfied. Now the Glock has to do its part but Matt sure has done his part and I hope I can send friends and I will be back to spend 2000.00 for the new Beretta 400 Explorer with the Camo and Kickoff system for the Goose/Duck Hunting Season. You have the highest of Quality Employee and my continued patronage. THANK YOU and GIVE THAT MAN A RAISE more

Every few years I make a purchase from these clowns, having forgotten their poor customer service record.\r \r A new Beretta, when taken home, turned out to not only be in fact used but it came complete with a broken firing pin. Of course they advise the buyer to "send it back to Beretta; no returns!"\r \r The Southwest Fwy. location is the worst. Save money, buy from Academy or even a gun show. Just avoid Carter Country. more

Dishonest practice 1/14/2011

I recently took a revolver and a scope base for some drill and tap gunsmithing work. Approximately two weeks later when I went to pick up my gun the price was almost $40 over what I was quoted when I dropped it off. The man behind the counter said that the extra charge was because the gunsmith had to "machine the base" because it was not flush with the gun. This was a custom fitting base and I fitted it prior to taking it to Carters so I knew there was something wrong here. I asked a nice young lady for a wrench and removed the base and showed this man that no extra machine work or any type of work was done at all. He became loud and upset and charged me the original quote after all. I don't think he expected me to take the gun apart there at the counter. I will not be returning to Carters Country nor will I recommend it. Be careful! more

Staff & selection is good 3/16/2010

Knowledgeable staff, a bit pricey. Have good stock levels, can always find what I'm looking for when I stop in. Outdoor handgun shooting range has targets lowered to waist level, didn't really like this as they used to have them higher. more
