By FAR the best thing I have ever done for my health is to work w/ a personal trainer. Trainer Matt Golden at C.Fitness has a comprehensive understanding of physiology, anatomy, and optimal training techniques, and customizes workouts based on individual needs, goals, and limitations. In past, had spent thousands on medical treatment for shoulder injury-with no real improvement. A few sessions w/ Matt, who coordinated a plan w/ my MD, produced HUGE improvement. Matt not only makes workouts extremely efficient and effective, but enjoyable--which keeps me consistently in the gym and having fun at it. I am a lot stronger, more toned, and far more pain-free from a variety of sports-related injuries than before I started working with a trainer. Also, as a Type 1 diabetic, consistent efficient workouts greatly improve my blood sugar control. Based on the past 2.5 years training w/ Matt, I found that I spend far less money, with much better results, on a trainer than on MD visits and prescription meds. Matt has worked wonders w/ my 72 yr.old mother, my 13 yr.old nephew, and even my veteran weightlifting brother. I don't have time/inclination to become an expert in sports physiology training-rather, I leave it to Matt, and just enjoy working out with an expert.
Re: Carolina Fitness-- I like the fact that it is not a meat-market gym, and fits the needs of a wide diversity of clients. CF is a microcosm of the community, where you can see old friends and meet new ones. All the equipment that one could ever need is available, and the training staff is excellent
