Neat neighborhood bookstore in the Highlands 3/24/2006

If you are tired of those big, impersonal national chain bookstores, Carmichael's is the place to go. Carmichael's is small, but very warm and welcoming. They carry a wide selection of books and magazines, and the friendly staff is knowledgeable and ready to help (although they won't harass you to make a sale). The place has a lot of old charm, down to the uneven, somewhat slanted floor. Definitely a place to check out when you head down to Bardstown Road for dinner or coffee. more

A great Highlands bookstore 9/1/2005

When you are window shopping in the Highlands, or taking that weekend stroll out for coffee, stop into Carmichael's bookstore. Its not a mega store, and that's a good thing. The staff is knowledgeable, and the store is a book lovers oasis. Bardstown Road is called restaurant row, but while you are out feeding your body,don't forget to feed your mind--stop in and sample the fare at Carmichael's. more

Wonderful bookstore 8/18/2005

Carmichael's is a place that I'm proud to frequent. It's the oldest independent bookstore in the city and is still going strong. Of course books are books, but when you buy them from a place that takes this much pride in selling them, it makes you feel like this is a place you can call your home. And Carmichael's is definitely a little bookstore home for me. It's comfortable and inviting and has a nice sense of familiarity, unlike the monstrous chain bookstores. I really appreciate that difference and I think so many others do, too. more
