it was a mistake 11/21/2006

The carburetor flooded on my 1974 gmc truck and the gas flow would not shut off. Ray, at carburetor of texas, said he had a carburetor that would work for my 454 ci. engine. Very good service, it was installed the same day I called. After Patrick installed the carburetor, my truck wouldn't run very good at all. It was fine before, it would barely go afterward. After eliminating other possible reasons, I put it in the shop for a new engine. Three weeks later, I finally get my truck, on Friday. It still ran the same as before, barely and no power. The common denominator was we used the same carburetor. I called Ray. He agreed there may be something wrong. However, it would be Monday when Patrick could service my truck. Monday... Patrick checks my truck, for 2 hours. Finally, he agrees to take the top off the carburetor. Upon further persuasion, he removes the 2 primary metering jets. Those 2 jets are too small for my 454 engine. This is my work truck. It carries equipment for my business. My truck is my business. No truck, no business. I sold my conversion van to pay for a new engine and sustain me untill it was installed. Three and a half weeks of lost business. The cost of a new engine, parts, and labor. Those 2 jets that were too small, cost me at least $5,000. A simple mistake that cost me big time. more
