Never Again !!! 12/9/2008

I have been coming to this restaurant from the day it opened. In the last few years management has turned over and the food and the service has gone down hill. I decided to give them another try 12/05/08 and will never return again!! I ordered beef fajitas and the meat had absolutely no flavor !! the grilled onions were better than the meat itself. The restaurant had a fowl odor as you walked in but seemed to go away as time went on. We reported the smell and the answer was, ""it must be the chinese restaurant next door""... more

Great neighborhood Tex Mex at reasonable prices 6/27/2008

We have been going here since they first opened their doors and as far as Tex-Mex at a neighborhood place goes, we love it. Contrary to earlier opinion of another reviewer, the warm salsa is actually what keeps me going back. Don't get me wrong, I love pico (and Capulcos has REALLY good pico!) but I love the warm, smoky salsa best. My little one loves the playroom--and so do her mom and dad b/c we can talk and eat while she plays and we're all happy. They have stumbled on occasion with a barely-warm plate of grilled shrimp or lukewarm rice, but that has usually happened on a busy, busy weekend night and they always make it right. If you don't speak up, they don't know so you can't complain. The borracho beans are some of the best in the area. I've had the Del Mar on numerous occasions and it is always piping hot with fresh and tasty ingredients. The teenager 'digs' the supreme nachos and you've got to go try their breakfast!! The best huevos I've eaten this side of Brownsville. Their recent 'specials' have been bringing us in more frequently too--that and the $2 margaritas! Pros: fresh ingredients, great service, plenty of room, playroom for kids Cons: could use a different paint scheme...somewhat drab & depressing interior more

Great Enchiladas 3/24/2007

I have been to many TexMex restaurants while this restuarant offers Texmex they have some unique dishes that can't be had anywhere else. With that said, they have some of the best enchiladas I have ever had!! The rice and beans have sooo much flavor! The food is some our favorite. The snapper del mar is some of the best fish my husband has ever had and it is priced low compared to other restaurants. The service was great. The server checked back on us several times and the manager even came by our table. The Margaritas are only $2.50 on Saturdays!!! What a deal! There have been other restaurants that have opened up in the area but we will continue to visit Capulcos. Great Food Great Service and Great Atmosphere+++ Pros: Great Food Great Service Great Atmosphere Cons: $2.50 Margaritas only on Saturdays - Wish it was every night! more

Great Food and the Best Margaritas 3/3/2007

We have been going to Capulcos for many years now. The restaurant has a really nice bar area for the adults and a kids play area for families. The food has always been great here. We love the empanadas and Jalapeno shrimp skewers. The fajitas are some of the best in Houston with a hint of lime flavor. The Snapper Del Mar (special...not on the menu) is one of my top 3 dishes of all time. They usually have it available There is a picture of it on the table by the front door. My daughters just love the cheese enchiladas and the Burrito Blanco. Pros: Great food and Fantastic Margaritas and great overall service Cons: Only one location more

Food is bad, Service is worse 8/1/2006

We went to Capulcos the first week it opened and ordered the standard cheese enchilada dinner and when it finally arrived it was awful. I don't know why we ever went back but we did. On the second trip, more than a year later we tried the fish tacos and they were rather average. We were really hoping they would come around on the food and bad service since the restaurant itself has the very cool plasma tv's and pretty good margarita's but they haven't changed AT ALL!. They've been open for quite a few years now and I just have to wonder how they keep from closing? May I suggest you steal a good chef from another restaurant (and his recipes too!) Pros: Margaritas (drink enough and you don't care how bad your food is) Cons: Bad Food, Worse Service more

Wow 4/5/2006

This restaurant was a big surprise. They have the best beef fajitas in Houston. I have been to many Mexican restaurants over the years and their fajitas are at the top of the list. My wife had the fresh fish special and couldn't stop talking about how great it was. The service was fast and friendly. The manager stopped by to check on us too. I should also mention the salsa. They serve a roasted tomatoe salsa and a green avocado salsa. Both were exceptional and again some of the best in Houston. The margaritas were fantastic and larger than most restaurants. On Saturdays they have $2 margaritas all day. Great Food and Great service. We will definitly be making many trips back to this restaurant. Pros: Great Food, Great Service, Serve Breakfast more

The restaurant in need of a chef. 7/18/2004

Capulcos looks like a great place. However, looks can be deceiving. Wow, is this bad mexican food. It starts with horrible salsa. How can you mess up salsa? One is hot...not spicey, but served heated and is bland at best. The other is some salsa verde creation that has zero taste. The menu limited menu has no winners that we've found to date. Even the bar has it's issues. I've ordered a Top Shelf Margarita and the servers have no idea what I'm talking about. It's a Mexican restaurant...you have to know what your high end Margs contain!! We've been to Capulcos four times. Each time we hoped for a new change, but so far none. It's easy to see I'm not alone in my opinion...Capulcos is usually empty. Get a new chef and a new menu...if you do it, they will come. Pros: Great ambiance, Great Location, Nice bar area Cons: , poor drinks, service needs work more
