After having this place recommended to us several times, my boyfriend and I decided to give Cap City a shot. We expected upscale diner food; we got low end Applebee's food. The atmosphere was a little confusing (mismatched chairs, diner entry, oddly lit dining room that couldn't decide whether it was formal and upscale or casual and cheap) as we walked to our table, but we reserved judgment until we'd opened our menus. My boyfriend was after a cheeseburger, so he quickly found what he wanted. I'm a vegetarian, and found nothing but a few children's meals and a terrible sounding ""veggie plate"", or ""assortment of all the vegetables we have laying around for side dishes"". To have a menu that is multiple pages in length and not even include one reasonable veggie choice is inconsiderate and irresponsible. Our server was really sweet and commiserated with me about the lack of vegetarian options. The food was all mediocre, uninspired, common, and bland, relying on grease and salt for all the flavoring. My boyfriend ordered his cheeseburger medium rare, expecting the meat to be decent enough to be served this way. It arrived VERY well done and he says it tasted like a frozen patty. The portions were also surprisingly stingy for diner food, so the food looked oddly lost on the giant plates. Unlike a high end restaurant, where you expect a small amount of wonderful food to be beautifully plated, Cap City presented a sad little pile of crappy food. I would never go back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless that person was a devotee of national chain type dining experiences.
Pros: Our server was helpful, sympathetic, and attentive
Cons: Everything else (food, atmosphere, everything!)
