Best

I love this place. For someone that can't afford to go to the really upscale restaurants around this is the best place out there. From the food that is Cameron Mitchell quality ...

Worst

This was my second visit to a Cap City Diner after being in Columbus 9 yrs... I was reminded why I crossed it off my list. It is cute and fun and staff is super friendly. Howeve...

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/18/2013

A very good menu, but at lunchtime TOO NOISY...you cannot carry on a conversation without shouting..\r \r AND they did away with my favorite dessert, CHERRY PIE.......their cherry pie was TO DIE FOR.......oh well, they said it was not in much demand...so much for public taste!! lol....but the menu has a great variety..........Guess I""ll have to eat there during NON-lunch rush hours!!! more

Skip this place 8/8/2011

This might have been a great restaurant once, but not anymore. The food was bland and uninspired. One of our party ordered the salmon and by the time they got half way through it, they were queasy. I got the Reuben and it was dull and boring and dry. Skip this place. more

if you go, go on tuesday or the weekend! 9/23/2010

The chicken pot pie blue plate on Tuesday is delicious. As are the cinnamon rolls they serve as you sit down at brunch are soooooo yum! Never had a bad meal here, though I don't care for their ""famous"" meat loaf. more

Don't let Diner in the name fool you. 11/3/2009

This was my second visit to a Cap City Diner after being in Columbus 9 yrs... I was reminded why I crossed it off my list. It is cute and fun and staff is super friendly. However I find the prices are very high. You really cannot successfully combine FINE and DINER. They would do better to cut portions and cut prices and keep the quaint atmosphere. Pros: cute atmosphere, very friendly Cons: high price for not that great quality more

Seriously disappointing 1/4/2008

After having this place recommended to us several times, my boyfriend and I decided to give Cap City a shot. We expected upscale diner food; we got low end Applebee's food. The atmosphere was a little confusing (mismatched chairs, diner entry, oddly lit dining room that couldn't decide whether it was formal and upscale or casual and cheap) as we walked to our table, but we reserved judgment until we'd opened our menus. My boyfriend was after a cheeseburger, so he quickly found what he wanted. I'm a vegetarian, and found nothing but a few children's meals and a terrible sounding ""veggie plate"", or ""assortment of all the vegetables we have laying around for side dishes"". To have a menu that is multiple pages in length and not even include one reasonable veggie choice is inconsiderate and irresponsible. Our server was really sweet and commiserated with me about the lack of vegetarian options. The food was all mediocre, uninspired, common, and bland, relying on grease and salt for all the flavoring. My boyfriend ordered his cheeseburger medium rare, expecting the meat to be decent enough to be served this way. It arrived VERY well done and he says it tasted like a frozen patty. The portions were also surprisingly stingy for diner food, so the food looked oddly lost on the giant plates. Unlike a high end restaurant, where you expect a small amount of wonderful food to be beautifully plated, Cap City presented a sad little pile of crappy food. I would never go back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless that person was a devotee of national chain type dining experiences. Pros: Our server was helpful, sympathetic, and attentive Cons: Everything else (food, atmosphere, everything!) more

Bring Back the Old Menu!!! 11/13/2007

Cap City used to ROCK! But they have a new menu, and apparently new chefs, because it now falls short of awesome. They've created a new home cookin' kind of menu - a bit too reminiscent of Chili's or Applebee's menu. If you're vegetarian, be warned - there's almost NOTHING on the menu that's vegetarian friendly (unless you want a side salad). And nothing with any real pizzaz. I found the food to be pretty bland - no creative use of spices or sauces like before. Well, all the other Cameron Mitchell restaurants still rock! more

My Favorite 1/9/2007

I love this place. For someone that can't afford to go to the really upscale restaurants around this is the best place out there. From the food that is Cameron Mitchell quality to the decor, Cap City is awesome. I even proposed to my fiancee here and they were so accomodating. We went here on our first date, our first date-anniversary and then our proposal date which she thought was just going to be our three-year anniversary. I've tried the meatloaf and several other dishes (usually the nightly specials) and everything has been top-notch. At the risk of creating longer lines, I would definately recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great night out with wonderful food at reasonable prices. more

Fabulous 3/6/2006

We were just in town for the weekend and a local mentioned the place. It was wonderful. The waiter was extremely nice, offering us free desert just because we were out-of-towners. The steak was the best my boyfriend had ever had and mashed potatoes were excellent. It has something for everyone and we both loved it. Pros: Good food, Great service, inexpensive more

Should have gone long ago... 11/18/2005

We went to CPFD&B during an OSU game, so it's not surprising that there was plenty of parking and that we were seated immediately. Apart from the $2.25 sodas, there really is nothing bad to say about the place. The restaurant has a 50s/60s feel about it, but the decor is upscale (no Coca Cola signs nor photos of James Dean, thank god). The service is oustanding from the moment you walk through the door, and our server was particularly charming and attentive. The menu is extensive, offering something for everyone. The meatloaf is superb, and the mashed potato is the best I have ever eaten. We were disappointed with the Banana Cream Pie, and it was immediately taken off the bill. Apart from the sodas, the prices are extremely reasonable - way cheaper than I'd expected. I would recommend Cap City to anyone, and can't wait to go back! Pros: Outstanding service, Reasonable prices, Ambiance/decor Cons: $2.25 sodas??!! more

Newcomer 9/14/2005

I went there for the first time and it was awesome. We all sat on the outdoor patio which is BEAUTIFUL and the food was great too. Definatly worth going to. more

Already went back 9/14/2005

Until a few days ago, I had never eaten at Cap City. I have been there twice in a week. Food is ecellent. A little pricey at lunch time but very tasty! On pleasant days the outside dining area is great. The service was excellent and the wait staff polite. Pros: Great food, Atmosphere, Service Cons: Music a bit loud more

great 8/13/2004

I went there, not knowing what to think, and i loved it! I had a burger and it was one of the best that i have ever had. I was with people that had meatloaf and steak, and they loved it. I also tried the triple layer chocolate cake, and it was amazing. Hint: Dont try to eat it all in one sitting by yourself, it isnt possible. I tried, trust me. It is amazing though. I highly recommend going! Pros: food, service more

Great Brunch 6/13/2004

I didn't even know they served brunch until just recently...the omelets are wonderful - not too big, but very fluffy and light and with just the right amount of fillings - I would highly recommend them. more

try it 9/25/2003

It's a great place for uppity comfort food. It's not too costly for the quality you can get. Any detractors are clearly afraid of food, this stuff is not haute cuisine full of foie gras, its good ingredients and a small creative twist on diner food. give it a try. you have every other night of the week to eat at a chain store. more

MEATLOAF and SO MUCH MORE 3/10/2003

I heard good things about the meatloaf and they were all true! The Salmon is also excellent! And don't even get me started on the desserts-YUMMY! It a little more expensive than your typical casual dining place, but is actually a GREAT VALUE for the quantity and quality of food you get. The Meat loaf is about 12 bucks, but the with the big portions I easily had enough left overs for lunch the next day! Start with the Quesadilla, finish with the Cheesecake. Pros: Darn Good Service, Fine Meatloaf, Desserts Cons: a bit noisy, will fatten you up! more

Nice Restaurant, Poor Sides 11/20/2002

The food overall was good, the meatloaf, clamari, burger and veggie plate were all fantastic! However the onion rings, coleslaw, and fries were disappointing. This is supposed to be a diner and the fries tasted just like the fries I can get a Burger King for $2.00 less. The main dishes and appetizer were excellent, however. The chocolate martinis were great! Our waitress was fantastic and I loved the atmosphere. I will definately go back, but I wish they would quit overlooking the importance of the side dishes! Pros: Service, Ambiance, Drinks Cons: Parking more

cap city...not capital 11/11/2002

The salad had the garbage part of the lettuce in it...it was good just not $30 good. Pros: open late Cons: expensive, sloppy in prep more

cap it off 11/11/2002

The few times I have been there I have not had the pleasant atmosphere that everyone has told me about. I would not take children there, the people are rude. more

Fabulous food, reasonable prices 8/11/2002

Am always impressed by the food at Cap City and the prices are extraordinarily reasonable. Portions are huge so you always have leftovers for another meal or a late-night craving. My only complaint is that sometimes the services is slow and a bit lacking. Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Good atmosphere Cons: Crowded, Lack of Parking, Slow service more

8 8/10/2002

This is one of my fav restaurants, especially if I can get a table on the patio. The salmon is always prepared to perfection. My husband is a vegetarian and enjoys the vegetarian plate that they offer. The menu has many offerings to choose from. Wait staff if always friendly and efficient. I have found that I never leave disappointed. more
