My family went on a week long vacation and left our sheltie at Candlewick. We were excited to come pick him up, so when we got there my siblings and I looked through the window and spotted our dog among the cages. When they brought him out to us, however, we noticed his fur was rather sticky although he supposedly just had a grooming before we arrived to pick him up. Taking him home, we realized he smelled of urine and that his fur was covered in it. My sister had to bathe him at home after a supposed grooming. We noticed that our sweet dog seemed off, more timid than before. My mother called the kennel about this, upon which they told us there had been a larger dog next to him during his stay that would growl and intimidate him. The larger dog would also urinate in its cage and the urine would seep down into my dogs cage. My dog spent a week getting intimidated by a larger dog and sitting in its pee. My dog normally gets along very well with other dogs and is a sweetheart. We were especially angry because it is not like the kennel was especially crowded that week. When we had peeked in to see our dog, we saw a room full of empty cages beside about three pets. The people at Candlewick did not even move him to a different cage, a simple solution, but neglected my dog for an entire week to leave him traumatized. Ive read similar reviews about other owners receiving their pets covered in urine. Candlewick is awful.
