Worst

A group of 8 of us went for a birthday party. It was quite cold and we were seated outside. There are NO outside heaters so plan accordingly. It was so cold and several people ...

Employees are awful! 9/3/2008

Watch your wallet when you drink! Especially if you are a dude. Those waitresses are con artists! They think that just because they look good and you look drunk, that they can get one over on you! I'm sure that it works sometimes but NOT WITH ME! Plus the security guards are typical PUNKS! I sat at a table for an hour near the dancefloor and watched them practically instigate fights with the way that they were shoving people out of the way. It didn't matter if you were a chick or a dude! The service isn't all that great either. I went to the bar and waited in a line for a long time to get served but it was still faster than the waitress for our table to come back with the drinks we had ordered. i had to order two at a time just to make sure that i didn't have to wait an hour between OVERPRICED drinks. i tried a martini, but it was so bad that i just stuck to beer after that. You can't go wrong with a $10 bottle of beer right? Take it from me, if you live in the valley and don't want to drive far, then go to noho or burbank even. If you are willing to drive a little..drive AWAY from simi! go to los angeles, hollywood, santa monica! way better hotspots and at least there you get what you pay for! Pros: Maybe it will close soon Cons: Whenever it does close, it won't be soon enough! more

Not what it once was 9/3/2008

This establishment opened two years ago with the promise of style and class- and perhaps a dose of attitude. It has fallen quite short of that promise. Although it maintains its facade of decadence and visual intrigue, the Candlelight Kitchen and Bar is far from extraordinary. As a matter of fact, their service and waitstaff are quite-ordinary. The exorbitant prices charged for food and beverage do not match the poor service quality, lack of attention, and snobbery that this establishment exudes. It is an utter dissapointment. Pros: Visually appealing Cons: Substandard Service and quality for the price more

GIRLS NIGHT OUT!! 9/2/2008

Where do I start! The views are AMAZING!! The place is designed magnificently! The chandeliers and ropes are a great touch btw!! I went for a girls night out, not knowing what to expect and we had the best time! I didn't know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The drinks were GREAT! We had a mojito and it was the best! They do their own nectars so we had a hibiscus flower mojito. It was perfect! My friends made friends with some people who had a cabana and the bottle service was cool. Literally, they bring the bottle out in a ice sculpter! It was out of this world. We had a blast and will go back soon. I can't wait! See you soon CandleLight. Pros: View, Drinks, Crowd Cons: None more

BEST TIME IN A WHILE 9/2/2008

Recently I visited CandleLight Kitchen and Bar in Simi Valley and it was MARVELOUS! I had a great time and I had no idea such a place existed! It's nestled away in a beautiful setting, with AMAZING views and waterfalls. The staff was friendly and pleasant. The menu was great and the service was spot on. My food came out on time and tasted amazing. I didn't have any of the EMOTIONS but a friend I was with did and she loved it...I think it was called Ecstasy! Try it, you'll love it! Bottom line, I had a great time and can't wait to do it again! Thanks guys, you got it right! Pros: Drinks, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Not enough hours in a night to enjoy the place!! more

Not worth it! Don't go! Awful! 9/1/2008

I will just say that they must have thought we were more drunk than we were or that we were stupid and couldn't add! but they added drinks to the bill that we didn't order! then when we called them out on it, they played dumb and said they would fix the bill. they did fix the bill but then they tried to tax us on the tip! and they charged 20% tip for BAD BAD service. this place is terrible. I only came to this place to try and stay close to home and because i had seen good reviews on here. But boy, I think candlelight employees and management must have placed those reviews on this site themselves! This place is not worth the drive at all! I will never come back and I regret giving even a dollar to their shady establishment. The lines to the bathroom were ridiculous and one girl got kicked out for using the men's bathroom. i think we all know why she felt she had to do that and i think that they should have preferred her using the men's restroom than to her relieving herself on their floor! The poor girl couldn't hold it..so she got kicked out. maybe they should work on having more bathrooms or maybe exercising better crowd control because the dance floor was packed too. you couldn't move and there were a couple of fights! this place is not worth it. don't bother! just stick to hollywood and LA. At least in those towns there are other bars/clubs within walking distance if the one you are at is crappy. you don't have to drive 15 miles to get back to civilization! Pros: i don't think there are any Cons: the entire place is a CON more

SHADY EMPLOYEES 9/1/2008

The waitresses may look good but they HAVE NO BRAINS. We went for a birthday party on Saturday night and we dealt with awful and very uneducated service staff. Right when we got there they (the hostess girls) had messed up our reservation and then they had the nerve to act annoyed with us for it! We were then seated and our waitress said that all the drink menus in the entire restaurant were missing and no one could find them. then she said "i know i know! sorry. i don't know what is going on with this place!" That was not very encouraging coming from a waitress. We asked her about their drinks and she said she could make anything we wanted. So we asked for a strawberry margarita and she said "oh sorry we can't do that". then we asked for a lychee martini and she said that she didn't know what that was and therefore they didn't have it. I asked her to check with the bartenders and she replied "oh, i have never heard of lychee anything so i know we don't have it". Next we asked for a bottle of gewertzaminer and she said she didn't know what that was either and that they didn't have it. later on when we finally got the drink menu we discovered that they DID have it. it was an ingredient in one of their signature cocktails! So we asked again for another bottle and they couldn't sell it by the bottle! Then she suggested a $100 "huge" martini and when we asked her what was in it she said "oh, its like all of our premium drinks, like all of our premium martinis together". I asked her what specific alcohols or flavors were in this famous $100 martini and she could not tell me. i just stopped drinking at that point. She was utterly imbecilic. The other waitresses were no better unfortunately. We finally made our way to the dance floor and there was overcrowding and a fight. The bouncers kept cutting through the crowd and pushing people out of the way. I understand the need to get to a fight but even after the fight had ended-the bouncers were too aggressive. Pros: None Cons: Awful staff, disorganized restaurant, spiders on the walls outside, overpriced, overhyped more

Better Check your Bill-they are SWINDLERS!!! 9/1/2008

When we arrived, we were intrigued by the ambiance and the beauty of the place. And then it all went downhill from there. The waitress took 1.5 hours to bring a drink menu that she couldn't find. She didn't know what was in any of the drinks, she took an eternity to come back to our table so we had to walk to the bar to order drinks ourselves. she bit another waitresses head off for trying to help us. she failed to tell us that they were completely out of something that we ordered on the menu. she started dancing near our table right after she brought us our check. she overcharged on the check by almost $20 and thought we wouldn't notice. When asked to correct the bill, she brought it back partially corrected in the subtotal but still managed to charge us the same tip 20% on a different total. and she taxed on the tip. I asked her to show me how she calculated the check and i asked her if they taxed on the tip there as a standard. she couldn't do it, (couldn't add or multiply or think it seems) she didn't know what the tax rate was in simi valley and in the end she said just to tell her how much she should take off of the bill. NO, im not kidding. We told her how much to charge. this place is awful. it made me sick to my stomach to have to tip her. From what i heard of other tables around me, their service was no better Pros: None Cons: Where do I begin? more

WORTH THE DRIVE TO THE 805 8/4/2008

I have been to candlelight a few times and it has been well worth the trip from Malibu every time. The crowd is great and everyone is excited to be there. There is a bit of a line outside, but you find that at any hot spot on the weekends. I actually talked to someone from Hollywood who said it was a great change and she too thought it was worth her drive. The food is amazing and the menu has changed since I was there last... All the girls that work there are cute and the guys are friendly and congenial. The dance floor was small in comparison to the lounge area, but it was packed and popular. There are 3 bars (two inside and one outside) so it is always easy to get a drink when you want it and bottle service is another option that looked like it would probably be fun, but not necessary. I have talked to a lot of my friends at Pepperdine who are excited to check it out so I'm sure I will be back soon. Pros: great crowd and amazing atmosphere Cons: small dance floor more

VERY ROMANTIC PLACE 8/3/2008

I WENT THIS PAST WEEKEND TO CANDLELIGHT ON THE REQUEST OF SOME OF THE PEOLE I WORK WITH AND REALLY HAD A FUN TIME. ANOTHER RESTAURANT I FREQUENT IN MALIBU ACTUALLY RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE WHEN I WAS THERE FOR A LUNCHEON, I THINK WHEN ANOTHER FOOD ESTABLISHMENT TELLS YOU HOW COOL A PLACE IS, IT IS WORTH CHECKING OUT. WE GOT THERE AROUND 8ISH FOR DINNER AND ENDED UP STAYING UNTIL THE CLOSING ( I THINK THEY CLOSE AROUND 2AM) I HAVENT BEEN TO A PLACE THIS ROMANTIC! AND DANCING!! IT IS REALLY A FUN EXPERIENCE FROM THE DINING WHICH IS VERY CREATIVE, TO THE OUTSIDE PATIOS AND THE VIEWS, AND THE WATER FEATURES EVERYWHERE!! WE HAD A COUPLE OF SERVERS TAKING CARE OF OUR GROUP SO I DONT REMEMBER THEIR NAMES, BUT THEY WERE ALL GREAT!! I WAS PLEASED TO GO OUT TO A PLACE WHERE I WASNT BEING OOGLED BY GUYS EVERY TWO MINUTES, AND DIDNT HAVE KIDS THAT JUST GOT OUT OF COLLEGE RUNNING AROUND! BOTTOM LINE- WE HAD A BLAST. WE ARE GOING BACK, IM JUST NOT SURE WHEN AS THE DRIVE BACK TO THE BEACH IS LONG LOL!! DEF RECOMMEND AN EVENING THERE OVER PLACES IN WESTLAKE, EVEN SANTA MONICA, AND HOLLYWOOD, Pros: CREATIVELY DESIGNED; CREATIVE COCKTAILS; CREATIVE DINING Cons: IT GOT A LITTLE COLD LATER IN THE NIGHT- THEY COULD USE MORE HEATERS more

Youre not a winner, please try again... 8/3/2008

Oh man... where do I begin? From the moment you enter till the time you leave the experience is so disappointing. Great view of the city, decent decor and a great attempt to bring a little bit of Los Angeles to the 805. But who are they kidding? This is not L.A. The Security Team is a complete joke. The head of security is extremely rude and offensive. Walking to the door of the restaurant, I was waiting for the paid papparazi to jump from behind the bushes and start flashing their cameras. The bartenders work the bar like their getting paid to take as long as they possibly can to pour you a drink. The best part is when they give you the price of your drink. I cant believe the prices!!! You would think they were serving the drinks out of gold glasses. They are way over priced. The waitresses are somewhat polite as long as you dont ask them questions. You kind of lose them after the first couple of words. The outside patio is nice as long as you have a can of Raid by your side. The ants are horrible. They are all over the tables. Its pretty annoying. The "Dancefloor" lets just say youre better off dancing at your table along with the ants. The crowd is the best part. I guess its because everybody is thinking the same thing... We paid a fortune for food and drinks, we might as well make the most of it. My recommendation... pay the extra money for gas and go to a place thats worth the effort and your time. Candlelight is not the place to be... Pros: Great view of the city, decent decor Cons: Security, Service and prices... more

GREAT LOUNGE ON WEEKNIGHTS. 6/27/2008

I WENT WITH A FEW FRIENDS ON A WEDNESDAY. THE PLACE WAS SOOO ROMANTIC! OUR WAITRESS, ANGEL, WAS SO CUTE AND VERY ATTENTIVE. WE BASICALLY HAD FREE RANGE OF ANY LOUNGE AREA WE WANTED. THE RED ROOM WAS MY FAVORITE. THE MUSIC WAS KIND OF BUDHA BAR-ISH. I'VE HEARD THAT THE WEEK-ENDS GET PRETTY CRAZY, BUT OUR NIGHT WAS FABULOUS!!!!! GREAT FOR BIRTHDAYS ON A WEEKNIGHT. GREAT PLACE TO DE-STRESS AFTER WORK. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE IF YOU WANT TO GET AWAY FROM THE CITY. Pros: ANGEL WAS A GREAT SERVER Cons: THE SALSA BAND CANCELLED FOR THAT NIGHT, SO WE DIDN'T GET THE MUSIC WE WANTED. more

Best Service, great food 6/9/2008

They have the great food and wonderful service. For their club scene they a friendly diverse crowd of people except for occasional blonde, culturally stunted trailer dwellers...diorgirl13. Pros: Friendly diverse group of people, wonderful service, great food more

WANNA BE COOL PEOPLE REALLY BIG GIRLS WEARING TO LITTLE CLOTHING 5/17/2008

Anyone who has the name darnskippy has no room to talk about culture. Anyone who thinks this club is good is from Simi Valley, home of trailers! Ha Ha the next time management wants to write a review try to come up with a better name! We went to Candlelight and it was gross. The concept of the club is clever. The club and outside deck is beautiful. The food was wonderful and the staff was out of this world. The server was slow but she was really nice so it was okay. Then it happened it went from restaurant to club and oh my god. I didn't know that spandex could stretch that far. I don't mind people expressing themselves through clothing but this was just silly. Also they allow smoking on the patio and people were smoking cigars that made us sick! We were two of the only white blonde girls in the place it was crazy. I don't know what happened to the strick door policy they have but I would get really stricked if I were you. We usually go to Hollywood but this had such great reviews we wanted to check it out. GO ANYWHERE BUT HERE you can do so much better. Pros: beautiful club good food Cons: LOSER crowd, overprice drinks, horrible parking, horrible dressed people more

happy hour!! 5/17/2008

i guess this place gets pretty exciting every night late night, but some friends and i were taking a day trip up to santa barbara from the city and decided to stop by a place my sister just stumbled across like a month ago. we got there at 5 in the afternoon and were pleasantly surprised to see a place so hidden yet so much fun!! They had a happy hour going on (even on weekends?) and even though we aren't bargain shoppers who doesnt like a good deal!! The three of us sat on the outdoor patio on one of the beds, and really enjoyed ourselves. It was a great beginning to our weekend. I just wanted to say great job up there, and monica thanks for taking care of us!! you will see us back on the weekends for dancing like i promised!! Pros: a great experience Cons: it was hot!! more

really a unique place. unlike anything else i have experienced 5/17/2008

i went last night to candlelight after i have been told millions of times what a fun place it is from my family (my mom loves going there with her friends) and decided to take the short drive from santa monica over. Its actually only about 25 minutes from the westside, and we just hopped on the 405 and were on the 118 freeway pretty quickly. We called from there to confirm our reservation which was for 6 of us, and the receptionist was really polite. i actually thought she was a machine she was so nice lol!. We arrived around 8:45 and for whatever reason valet was extremely polite and efficient. They asked if we were with the wedding, because i guess that is seperate, then we just walked right in!! THE PLACE IS UNBELIEVABLE!! There are flowers everywhere which to me says they really are fresh! and full of life which is so cool compared to typical bars/ restaurants that try to be minimalist and end up being uncomfortable. The place was busy, but not annoyingly so (ive heard saturday night is just crazy) so my girlfriends and i had a lot of just shared plates. i personally had the blackened ahi tacos and the salsa they came with was the best i have ever had!! 3 michelin stars from me!! One of my other friends had a shrimp cocktail and it actually came out on an ice plate.. make of ice!! overall it was a very unique, and fun,and comfortable dining experience. The weather was amazing so we sat outside on the majestic deck and they had a seperate DJ playing outside. He was very good looking, and playing fun music like remxes, and lounge, and house and next to him was a conga player!!! it was really really cool, and with the stars above, the waterfalls around, and candles everywhere it was amazing!! After dinner we went inside and a DJ was playing alot of dance music which was great! The room with the cabanas/ bungalows is somewhere i want to check out more on another visit. In the end we had a great night!! Pros: it want to go back!! Cons: ill let you know on the next experience more

Dont go here if you want your car back! 5/12/2008

This club is a joke! They make the guys where khaki pants and Pink Polos. The music was horrible! The security guards were rude! They were standing there looking terrified that something would go wrong. They wouldn't smile, which I could understand because there little short cocky boss seemed like a real tool! We were in the club for about 20 minutes before we got bored. I went to the bar I ordered a shot of Cognac the bar tender put it in a snifter glass and gave me a very generous pour I was impressed, however I was not impressed it was 18 dollars its not like its Hollywood. When we left the club the valet parking was horrible! We gave the girl our ticket and after waiting for 45 minutes and watching the girl pull up three other cars I asked her what was up, and she asked for my ticket again. I told her I could not give it to her because she already had it. She proceeded to go back out to the lot and pull around 2008 Escalade, if gas prices were not so high and I wasn't and honest person I might have considered it. I told her that was not my car so she went back to the office and finally grabbed the key's to my Camry! This is just a warning the parking at candlelight is horrible if you dont mine putting up with the rude door man and the fact you might lose your car go to candlelight. Pros: NON Cons: Everything more

Worst Security!!!!!! 5/12/2008

Let me start out by saying this could be a great club with the right staff. I have recently moved to Simi Valley by way of Ventura. My wife and I went to the club for the first time this last Saturday. When we pulled up there was along line to valet your car, we were not in a hurry because it was around 10:15 and our party of eight was not going to arrive until 11pm. After waiting in the Valet line for about 30 minutes they parked our car. My wife and I were dressed up because we heard it was an upscale place. Many guys where dressed nice, even some wearing suits and ties. Others im not sure who they new but obviously someone because they were wearing shorts Tee shirts and sandals. When we arrived everyone was very nice even the little short cocky guy at the door. I guess he was the manager because he was the only employee with an ugly mustard colored suit that was 5 times to big for him. My wife and I went into the club, got a drink and waited for the rest of our party to arrive. Our party got to the Door around 11:15 because they also had to wait in the Valet line. My wife and I could see our party walk up because we were sitting at the lounge outside. After about 10 minutes of my friend talking to the little guy in the mustard suit I realized there was a problem. The little guy had told them they were 15 minutes late and could not get in. Since the club was not full and they were still letting people in I realized what the problem was. Four of the guys are over 6 ft 7 and former and current Pro Basketball players. Not realizing that my wife and I were waiting for the party of eight outside, one of the security guards who was about 5 ft 4 125lbs with a bald tatooed head looked to me and said they just looked like trouble. WOW! It took every thing in me not to laugh in that guys face. Suggestion to cadlelight if your security guards are going to discriminate against people over 6 ft tall maybe you should hire security that can actually keep a club SECURE. Pros: The View! Cons: The rude security! and unorganized valet parking! more

Best food in Simi Valley 5/6/2008

Food and service was absolutly wonderfull. The staff is very friendly and professional. My family loved all our steaks and entrees. The filet melts in your mouth, and the ahi appetizer is the best ahi we've ever had. more

Definitely Trashy!!! In no way classy!!! 4/29/2008

Ok I looked up Candle Light Kitchen and Bar online and saw the pictures and thought that this spot looked great and was worth my while. What a mistake that was!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I usually club in Hollywood and enjoy my night out so I figured I would try something new in Moorpark. First of all, I am 25 and I thought this was a 21 and over club yet for some reason the crowd looked extremely young like 17-18 year old girls and young guys. It was really empty yet the parking lot looked full and they requested I valet my car. The door man made it seem as if it were a top of the line club ( some short fat Hispanic guy who was really cocky)!! Well once I walked in what a disappointment yeah a nice view but no scene going on at all. The crowd was boring and definitely was not worth my time or anyone elses time. Drinks were expensive and nothing was worth the drive or the money. Please don't waste your time and be fooled by the pictures on line. If you are looking to party go to Hollywood. If you are on a date go here or if you are underage try it out you will fit in just fine. Plus the music sucked.Me and every one of the 12 people I went with were extremely disappointed!!! We left within the hour and went to Hollywood to really party it up!!!! Definitely TRASHY not CLASSY AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Online great advertisement it draws you in. Nice curb appeal. Cons: Walk in the door and the crowd looks under 21, drinks are overpriced, food not spectacular, and a stupid short security guard that makes you think the place is amazing till you walk through the door. more

Avoid the restaurant, go for the music and lounge 4/26/2008

Went there for my cousins birthday two weeks ago for dining and then to stay afterwards for the club. Id have to say for the price of the meal, it was not worth it. The service was bad ( waitresses are all looks and obviously no brains) and the food was sub par for being overly priced. Did not enjoy the dining experience at all. The only plus side was when we stayed for the club. The outdoor patio is beautiful with chimnea's and bed-style sitting areas. The music and drinks were good too. Avoid the restaurant and just go for the club. Pros: the lounge, patio area Cons: dining more
