Editorial review from Citysearch 4/4/2013

I was at Candicci’s on Easter (2013) for the buffet.\r We were at the buffet last Easter (2012) and it was really good. The only gripe I had was the live band, it was a little much for the small space.\r This year I noticed how unorganized everything was. \r We had made a reservation 2 weeks prior and were placed in the back with a bunch of tables lined up similar to a church fish fry, we were placed by an obnoxious family with kids, and we asked to move, after a slight attitude we were moved. \r The buffet line was so long we sat at our table for a while.\r The way the buffet is set up is a joke; it looks like it should have been at someone’s house or a cheap wedding reception. \r You lined up in front of other people’s table, so your rear end is in their face. When you finally do get up to the buffet the plates are all scattered on a table, some looked dirty and the second time I went up there were only a few plates.\r The food was not bad but it was just so thrown together.\r There was bacon, sausage, toasted ravioli, salad, nasty meat that tasted old, danish, and some fruit.\r The ad stated seafood, pasta, etc. \r The kitchen was right by the buffet table, the staff’s passing by do not even excuse themselves when passing through. The kitchen looked filthy too. \r The next night my mother became very ill, not sure if it was food poising or a stomach virus probably caused from an ignorant staff member or patron.\r Not that anyone cares, but I will not be back and will tell others about my incident.\r A piece of advice to the owner, maybe consider closing or re organize your place.\r \r \r more

My Opinion 4/12/2012

I have eaten here twice, the first time I had a seafood alfredo type dish and it was BAD, the fishy smell and taste was overwhelming, I could not eat more than a few bites, the second time I tried a chicken dish, the chicken was just ok, the side dish of pasta that comes with the meal was tasteless and severely overcooked. You would think a pasta place could cook pasta correctly. Needless to say I will not be eating here again. Service is not the best, on our first trip the waitress dropped one of the meals on the floor, so we had to wait for another plate of food. She got her new plate of food as the rest of us were finishing. Pros: null Cons: null more

Cancicci's...No service, never had the food 7/21/2011

I would love to say that I have enjoyed eating at Can dicci's and give them many stars, but the only time I wanted to eat there, I couldn't get a server to acknowledge my presence. It was a Wednesday night and the restuaurant was moderately busy. No wait, I was seated right away and my wife and I were handed a menu. 10 mintutes lapsed and I signaled for the hostess who had no idea that a server hadn't greeted us yet. She said we'd have one momentarily. 15 then 20 minutes lapsed and though the hostess directed servers to tables who were seated after us, no server. My wife and I got up, walked right past the hostess who said absolutely nothing. Isolated incident? Maybe, but it does not excuse not poor, but absolutely no service. Draw your own conlcusion.... more

Some of the Best Italian Food I've Ever Eaten 7/19/2010

So this is probably the best Italian food I've ever eaten. We hosted a party here sight unseen and had never eaten the food, since we live out of town. I was a little nervous, given this but we were blown away by this place. We booked based on the outstanding price point and the recommendation of a few friends/family that had eaten here previously. The service was outstanding. The guys kept the drinks coming and we even stayed longer than our time alotted, and nobody hurried us along! The toasted ravioli, something I don't normally order, were to die for. We also got the pasta con broccoli and canneloni and honestly, they were some of the best I've ever tasted. The pasta con broccoli comes with a thicker noodle, which I prefer, and the cannellonis had a delicious three-meat blend with both red and white sauce. This place is really an unknown gem and I'd recommend booking either a party or visiting to eat there soon - once this place is discovered, the line will be out the door! Pros: Great place for a private party Cons: We stuffed ourselves silly! more

new location same bad food 6/27/2010

Ballwin is no hotbed for restaurants, which makes candicci's seem even more pathetic. Service was ok but the food was bland. This is their second place after the first one went bankrupt down in Clayton. I hoped they learned from the first failed location but trust me, they have not. more

Restaurant on "The Little Hill" 5/28/2010

For those who think the best Italian food can only be found in "The Hill" area of St. Louis, check again. This restaurant in Ballwin, MO is running right beside the best of the best. Located at Manchester and Holloway sitting on a hill now called "The Little Hill". You don't have to live in the city to sample this Italian menu of award winning pasta's, chicken, veal, and seafood dishes. The dinning room was very pleasent and my server (Tommy) very friendly and knowledgeable. Candicci's also caters large parties and business meetings. I had the opportunity to meet the father/son team, Chef (Rodney Leadbetter) and assistant (Zach Leadbetter) and toured the vegetable and herb garden located outside of the kitchen. Not all restaurants grow their own produce. I give Candicci's 5 stars and highly recommend having a meal with your family here. Pros: Good access to and from Manchester Rd. Cons: RV parking is across the street in the Target parking lot more
