At Cameron equestrian center they are training athletes , from children that someday dream of the Olympics to children that ride once a week and want to be all that they can be Safety is so important during this training you are dealing with very large animals and children and horses can get hurt if instructions are not followed When Elizabeth started to ride with Marleta she had already been riding for over a year and didn't know or would not carry out basic safety moves with the horse. Marleta will say if she is yelling someone is about to get hurt. Elizabeth was doing fine with learning some basic skills until her mother came Then she became a very unsafe rider As for the water anytime anyone wants a drink they just go get it Elizabeth was asked to leave the arena because she was being disrespectful ,not for anything else There are a lot of children that have learning problems and they don't use it as crutch for failure more

Heart-breaking Experience\r \r Our nine year-old daughter was treated disrespectfully and inappropriately by the teacher/owner, Marleta Lillejord. Between our daughter's third and last riding lesson, I called Marleta to discuss her learning disabilities which require more patience. You can imagine we were shocked at what occurred at her following/last lesson. She wasn't offered water during her long & hot lesson, she rode for longer than she should have, she was yelled at rudely in front of other children and parents, she wasn't given any help when she reached her frustration point and began to profusely cry, she was spoken to in a ""bully""-type manner, and wasn't shown any patience or good teaching practices. Marleta's teaching manner and demeanor were appalling and if we had continued these lessons, she would've broken our daughter's spirit. We warn prospective parents to be careful!\r more

Love to go out and watch my kids during lessons. They learn so much and love their trainer. We have been to other barns in the area, but found our ""home"" here. The owner is professional and friendly, and I never hesitate to leave my kids in her care when I have to leave them. So happy we found Cameron Equestrian! more

This is a wonderful barn for stabling and lessons. The owner and trainer are wonderful people who treat the students with respect and I have been very happy with the excellent lessons. I also love the fact that the location is in a part of our city that still has the feel of being out in the country. I definitely recommend Cameron Equestrian if you are looking for yourself or your children. Pros: Professional, safe, fun, inclusive. Cons: Wish I had found it sooner! more

We love Cameron! My oldest teenage daughter has thrived under the instruction of Marleta and Kersten. She has become an accomplished rider and has gained self confidence that seemed impossible at other area barns. Now my youngest, is riding at Cameron and couldn't be happier. She is receiving the most patient instruction and is well on her way to becoming a great little rider as well. I would trust Marleta and Kersten to take her to the moon! Thanks to Cameron both my girls love the horse world and will be there as long as they ride. Pros: Excellent care of horses, Most knowledgeable trainers around more

Not a good idea for younger kids. They didn't disclose to parents that the swimming is off-site, so I didn't know that my 8-year old was going to be transported by people I didn't know, without her booster seat, to a swimming pool that I didn't know about. more

Clearly being a boarder for the past 10 years says a lot. Many people don't stay for a short time, they're here for the long haul. I can't think of better trainers in the area. They push you, but not to the point of no return. They have definitely pushed me to become a better horse person and have even enabled me to be able to ride and own one of the most stubborn horses I have ever met. I would rather have safety and knowledgable trainers than a gorgeous immaculate barns with trainers who pack 15 horses in a 2 acre pasture and call it okay. While the barn needs some sprucing up, there are plans in the works from what I've heard and many weekends the barn FAMILY has cleaning days to sweep, clean, and dust. All the horses are well taken care of (and fed!) and if anything happens to your horse, you will know within hours (as soon as they find out, really), not the next time you show face at the barn. more

I have been at Cameron Equestrian Ctr for three years now, and i absolutly love this place!! \r \r the barn is in a perfect location,not city bound but not hell and gone. knowing the correct route it takes me 15-20 min from downtown austin\r \r The horses at Cameron are treated with top of the line care, my two horses are two very happy animals (: \r \r This barn is great for riders of all ages, genders, shapes and colors unlike most barns in the area. \r \r With two large areanas (one indoor) we are able to ride in all weather be it blazing heat, texas ""cold"" and even rain!\r \r Saying that the training is good is an understatement. they are AWESOME. the trainers put absolutly 110% in to everything that they do, and care about each and every rider equally.\r \r there is nothing that comes to mind that needs to change about my Cameron, it is my peice of heaven, my happy place. and has helped me become the strong person i am today! Their strong family values are adoped by the entire set of current clients.\r \r My daughter started in the lesson program and summer camps at Cameron, and as an ex-rider, I was pleased that Cameron expects the kids to learn whole horse care and understand the work that goes into caring for horses. Each day of camp, they learned something new, such as grooming, bathing, tack cleaning and yes, they even paired up and cleaned a stall once or twice a week. Of course, they also had eight lessons per week at camp. The indoor arena is a huge bonus to both clients and campers. After a hard rain, outdoor arenas can take 2-3 days to dry out, leading to cancelled lessons and disappointed campers. With the indoor ring, we don't have that problem. My daughter progressed rapidly as a rider during through the lessons and weeks at camp. Eventually, we ended up purchasing a horse. \r \r For horses Cameron is an ideal place. There are 24 (or more?) turnout paddocks which provide individual turnout for client horses, and small herd groups for the school horses and many retired horses that live at Cameron. With that many paddocks, all the horses are out for at least half of every 24 hours, and many of them are outside day and night. Our older jumper benefits both mentally and physically from outdoor living. Of course, when the weather is bad, they all come inside to their comfortable stalls. The stable also only feeds top quality alfalfa hay, even to the school horses and retirees. \r \r The most amazing part of Cameron is the fantastic 'family' of clients. Everyone is so supportive, kind, and helpful. We cheer each others successes, and offer encouragement when needed. I love that last lesson on Saturday when there's a bunch of folks who hung around just to chat and watch. What a fun group and we have so much fun. \r \r more

I have always felt good about the friendly atmosphere and the casual but respectful relationships between trainers and students that I observed.\r The horses have been very well cared for and she has grown and progressed so much in her riding, which is important, but the fact that she is so happy with everything and everyone at Cameron is a real plus. \r For my part, (she is a second generation rider) I know riding, loving, and working with horses is rewarding but also can be dangerous, if it is not done right. It is very evident that the safety and well being of the riders is Marleta's primary concern. She and her organization know their business and they do it very well.\r I am proud to be a part (very small part) of the Cameron Equestrian Family.\r Luvflan more

We are not ""horse people."" My three daughters just wanted to learn to ride horses. So on the recommendation for a co-worker, we signed up for a week of Cameron's summer camp program. My girls had a blast! They learned how to care for the horses, with my little one very proud when she could finally clean a hoof of the big horse she was given to groom, put the saddles on, and ride. I really like how the entire barn family helps the new comers. There were other more advanced kids and teenagers always willing to lend a hand to my girls when they needed it. The owners and trainers were very patient with us non-horsey types while we were there and I felt like my kids were safe while they were at the barn. I plan to send my girls back this summer for another taste of the horse world! more

Anyone who is fortunate enough to board a horse and/or take lessons here will tell you that Cameron Equestrian Center is a wonderful place run by wonderful people. After searching through many other barns we have finally found Cameron and don't anticipate ever leaving. Both the owner and trainer are not only professional, but also very supportive, encouraging and protective of their students. I am very happy to have them as role models for my children. In response to MAINSQEEZE: Having an investigation end as inconclusive is not the same as being "proven innocent" and it is very interesting that since the individuals you spoke of left there has been no other shenanigans or discord. At Cameron, I just finished a clinic with Olympian Greg Best...you won't find that anywhere else in Austin. It was amazing and such a great opportunity. Board 1 horse and 1 pony here and am very pleased with their care. They are both healthy and well taken care of. Family friendly barn....some unstable folks had to be asked to leave and they were very upset to be shown the door ....but now everyone here is fun, friendly and normal! Many barns in Austin but I will never leave here.....great trainers, great horses, fun people....Love it!! more

At Cameron, I just finished a clinic with Olympian Greg Best...you won't find that anywhere else in Austin. It was amazing and such a great opportunity. Board 1 horse and 1 pony here and am very pleased with their care. They are both healthy and well taken care of. Family friendly barn....some unstable folks had to be asked to leave and they were very upset to be shown the door ....but now everyone here is fun, friendly and normal! Many barns in Austin but I will never leave here.....great trainers, great horses, fun people....Love it!! more

We love this barn, my daughter has been riding here for about 3 1/2 years. I have never seen a owner/trainer care more about horses than they do and they are amazing with our kids. Everyone gets alone great, with no more drama, we all help each other. My daughter would never think about taking her horse anywhere else. Yes! when she has finished with her horse she usually rides another. Horses have to be exercised, my daughter loves it, and this has made her a better, stronger and more confident rider. OUR BARN ROCKS!!! more
