Hidden Gem - Amazing Flavors 6/10/2006

From the outside you'd never know what an amazing treasure this place is! The inside is cozy and small touches like the artful place settings and food presentation give it a touch of simple elegance. But the food really steals the show. We've been come for over a year and keep coming back. Every dish we've had is an incredible blend of fresh flavors that are never overpowering. Nothing is overdone - the great combination of tastes really shine in superb dishes like the pork short ribs (my favorite), stir-fried filet mignon, tamarind prawns and the to-die-for falling chocolate cake with lychee ice cream - heaven! They have a small but carefully-selected wine list and almost every month they host a fun wine pairing dinner. The entrees can be on the small side, but we're always satisfied. My husband and I consider this our own secret place for a dinner. If you want a long wait for a crowded, noisy and rushed meal, head to nearby Santana Row. If you want a quiet, elegant meal full of flavor, try Citronelle. more

Delicious, genuine Vietnamese cuisine. Generous portions, friendly service and excellent value. The decor is spartan but the food more than makes up for it. Highly recommended. more

Awkward Birthday Celebration 6/22/2005

We went to Citronelle to celebrate my husband's birthday. When our entrees came out, 2 of 12 were missing. While the hostess was busy sharing food and wine with two other customers, the two meal-less ladies entertained themselves during our entire meal by playing with their silver while the rest of us were forced to give up waiting and consume our meals before they went totally cold. It would have been nice for the staff to have offered the two women something while they waited. By the time the entrees showed up, almost everyone else was done eating and plates were being cleared away. When the check came, I really expected the hostess to have comped us the two late meals or some other sort of compensation. Although the food was excellent and basic service was good, we won't be coming back to Citronelle. Hence, the mixed review. Pros: friendly staff, food, presentation Cons: slow service, small portions more

If you have never been to Citronelle, you are in for a treat. The food is high quality and you will have the greatest experience in Vietnamese food. You will enjoy the food that Chef Hong and her staff prepares each day. The Pho soup is made fresh daily with the best ingredients. For starters, try the appetizer sample platter, then order a salad and for the main course, you must have the pork chop or the filet mignon, the clay pot catfish is my favorite. Citronelle rice is a must with your entree. And, for dessert, the molten chocolate is yummy. Hope to see you at Citronelle. Pros: good parking, nice wines more

good food, small portions 5/6/2005

the outside of the restaurant looks a bit plain and intimidating, but inside the restaurant is full of elegance. the food here is very delicious, i had a sweet mango salad and the lemongrass porkchops, however, the portions are extremely tiny! i shared with my friend, and it did not even fill us up. i do recognize that they spend a lot of time on presentation, and it's wonderful, but i can't believe $27 for 2 plates that didn't even fill me and my friend up. i do recommend the place for lunch, but not dinner, which may have been my mistake. Pros: decor, food, presentation Cons: small portions, pricey, a little slow more

A place you do not want to miss 7/5/2004

The food is extremely good. Grilled meats (chicken and pork chop) are as tender as Sarah Brightmans voice. Wild halibut is so fresh and well prepared with oriental mushrooms. On top of these wonderful dishes, dessert (warm chocolate cake and tropical paradiso) will bring you to paradise. Owner and staff are as friendly as your families. My wife and I realy enjoyed our time there last Friday. more

We have been there several times. We always love the food at Citronelle, especially the items on the new menu. Menu is changed from time to time. We miss our crab glass noodle. But we were told that it will be back at end of year. Good wine selection. Wonderful desserts. Pros: Excellent value, Easy parking Cons: Crowded on weekend more

I was using Citysearch and found you guys last month and had a wonderful dinner. I went back again last week and it was even better. Everything seemed so fresh. You have a consistently good approach and the noodle soup I had was better than anything I have had anywhere else. Just wanted to say keep up the good work and next time I am going to book my party there. Pros: Food, Service, Relaxed Atmosphere more
