I guess if you really love Northern Italian food with strange trendy additives to make it unique, then this place is for you. Ambience was fantastic, service average, and food......

very disappointed 7/4/2019

feel ripped off. Do not say yes to water, they brought us bottled water even when we said tap water and did not stop bringing it. After the meal was over the waiter brought yet another bottle that did not even get touched. 8 dollars a bottle. 24 dollars worth of water for 3 people. Shame on you. The waitress said she could take it off the menu, I said that would be great since we asked for tap water. The bill was never changed. They also put your valet fee on your check so you are tipping on your car being parked also. I did give the valet 10 dollar tip more

Cafe Juanita - 3 visits this year 1/17/2007

Once again, we (my wife and I) were dazzled at Cafe Juanita. We even got a brief chat in with the owner/chef Holly, who gave me a recipe for one of my favorite pasta dishes they make. This place continues to be at the top of our list for the best in the greater Seattle area. We had the Italian sea bass for the second time, and this dish alone is worth a trip. Wine pairing by our waiter was perfect, and what is really nice is that they allow you to try out several wine-by-the-glass to make sure you get the right match to each dish. I'm sure other places are willing to do this, but I have yet to be offered this very small touch of service. Though you will lay down some cash to eat well here, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone. Go visit if you havnet and comment on your trip. http://www.cafejuanita.com/ - sign up for the newsletter, we receive recipes and stuff :^) JC more

Cafe Juanita is most definitely worth a drive to the Eastside 7/10/2006

Its VERY rare that we travel to the Eastside of lake washington to have a meal. However, Cafe Juanita is more than worth it. Most restaurants on the eastside are corporate run POS, not this place. The atmosphere is really nice, lots of space, not a bad seat in the place. Small menu (I like this) so that you are forced into a great meal. nice ambience. The restaraunt is northern italian and has an extensive wine list. The food is wicked awesome, and for us, worth the price (cause its pricely). on the night we went, we ordered the following off the menu: octopus antipasta, with an herb, fennel and chickpea base; simple salad with vinnegrette; tagliatte pasta with morels; braised duck with lentils and cherrys. I dont do justice to the description at all, but you get the idea I hope. I asked the waiter to server me a glass of white to start, and red with dinner. He did a great job at this, and here is one thing I loved: he let me try some wine before committing. love that touch. some more points: there was no rush to get in and out. It actually had the pace of a meal enjoyed in Firenze. Parking was easy. Quiet location. Romantic. more

Elegance and Amazing Cuisine! 3/16/2006

Cafe Juanita is tucked away in a small unobtrusive building, but don't let this fool you. The food is amazing! Definitely a place for elegance and fine dining. It is romantic and quaint, but the Northern Italian food is beyond belief! They usually take one seasonal ingredient and put it into a host of special dishes, but it is all quite unique and wonderful. Definitely a recommended place for a special occasion. Make reservations! more

upscale romantic resturant 9/4/2005

Cafe Juanita is tucked away behind Starbucks and the new shopping complex that came with it. I believe it sits in front of a creek in a patch of trees...pretty cool place. The food is kinda pricy, but it's really good. I don't have any specific suggestions for you this time! I've been here a few times with my mom and I've yet to be disappointed. Dress to impress, most of the people I've seen inside were wearing suit and tie. more

Great Food 8/17/2005

This restaurant is one of the best secrets in the Kirkland area. The food is absolutely amazing and surprises me every time. There is a very diverse menu full of many different types of food to try. Their appetizers are seriously good enough to eat as a whole meal alone. There are many different favors and tastes to experience and this is a very fun place to take a date. more

Favorite Restaurant 8/3/2005

This is an amazing restaurant. This review will sound very gushy because I love it there. First of all, it's a beautiful dining room that overlooks a bunch of apple trees. It has an open kitchen but what goes on back there seems to be completely seamless - and silent! Have you ever been to a place where you didn't hear pots and pans clanking? They don't make noise here. The service is impeccable. The food is amazing. They use fresh, local ingredients. Try to have several small courses so you can try lots of dishes. I can't pinpoint my favorite thing there. It's nice to know that it's consistently fabulous. Oh, maybe my favorite was the pot de creme - or the risotto - I can't decide. more

Our favorite restaurant in the Seattle 7/8/2005

We absolutely love this place. We go at least once a month. From the lovely cocktails (try the Lillet Martini) with delicious little bites accompanying, to the elegant and complex appetizers like the most tender octopus you've ever had, to the beautiful, rich, earthy parmesan chicken soup, to the unique and hearty entree (like best rabbit you've ever had), to the dessert and grappa - the place is just sublime. And the service is personal and courteous and informed. And never rushed. What an evening and an escape!! more

The Best restaurant on the Eastside of Seattle 4/5/2005

http://www.cafejuanita.com/ Holly Smith took over as chef/owner of Cafe Junita in 2000, and elevated the cuisine to a new level. Always a reliable place under previous owner Peter Dow, the cusine is more inventive and the execution is wonderful. The extensive wine list includes pages of Italian wines, including top producers like Gaja. And the waitstaff are attentive and knowledgeable. more

Best Euro-American restaurant (not) in Seattle 9/7/2004

I know Juanita's not exactly in Seattle, and I don't like going to the Eastside any more than the next Seattleite, but Cafe Juanita is the real deal, so stick with me on this... In my observation, the better Seattle restaurants tend to fall into one of two categories: massive, expense-account factories (mostly located downtown) like Wild Ginger and the Tom Douglas family; or funky neighborhood places (appearing all over the city) that serve great food, but often with a deliberately casual/quirky approach. The rare exceptions to this generalization are those treasured few that combine excellent, hand-crafted food with the professional 'white-apron' service more common in the best New York or San Francisco eateries. Cafe Juanita is the local exemplar of this happy combination. Located in a converted 1960's rambler on a quiet Juanita side street, Cafe Juanita consistently delivers excellent, innovative food, crafted from superior ingredients, in a style that combines traditional European (or, more accurately, Mediterranean) techniques with the lighter, more playful handling you'd expect to see at, say, Alice Waters' Chez Panisse Cafe. Instead of slavish Euro-formality, expect genuine west coast warmth, but with the respectful distance that is the mark of truly professional restaurant service. In addition to superior food and service, Cafe Juanita offers an excellent and comprehensive wine list, and a pastry kitchen every bit as skilled as the main line. If you want to find something to complain about, it's that you pay for what you get. The prices are not (as in some local establishments) simply inflated to help the patrons feel good about themselves - instead, expect to pay fair value for the level of craft and quality you receive. But if you want a special meal that actually exceeds your expectations, don't let this deter you - Cafe Juanita is worth every penny! more
