Best ""date night"" dining 1/23/2012

Whenever we have a special occasion to celebrate, Cafe Escadrille is my first choice for dinner. The service in the Gourmet Room is beyond compare. Lynn in particular always makes us feel like VIP's, and anticipates our every need. Is there anything better than blackened prime rib? Outstanding! The cozy, private booths lend such a romantic atmosphere, my husband & I simply love to dine here. more

average 9/27/2010

This place USED TO BE very good. Now it's justa ""food factory"". Food is ""OK"" but nothing to write home about. Gourmet section is the biggest ripoff in the place by far. I noted last week that they still serve chilled salad on chilled plates...obviously premade salad in preparared chilled plates...not exactly what you call ""fresh"". Atmosphere is preety good and food is about average but somewhat overpriced. Might be better off at the Dandelion Green near Burlington Mall, though they too went downhill a bit, but have more justifiable prices. more

Disappointing Night Out 2/14/2010

We asked for the Gourmet Room hopping for ""classically fine dining and attentive service in an intimate atmosphere"". We were not seated for until we asked why two couples that came in after us were seated before us. They called the Gourme Manager who came out and confronted us. We were finally seated infront of the heater while there were four tables open. We asked to be moved. The new managers lack class and fine dining is a thing of the past at Cafe Escadrille. Pros: The food is better than the ""99"" Restaurants Cons: Manager of Gourmet Room was confrontational more

Keep driving by it 1/3/2010

This place went downhill bigtime. Who ever heard of ""rack of lamb"" being served as 3 lambchops soaked in a wine sauce? The salad s-cks ..all chilled and pre-prepared. Gave us the impression of a ""food factory"". Looks like ""anything for a buck"" now as opposed to the great place with excellent food of years ago. Incidentally, biggest ripoff is ""Gourmet"" section. We found it an extremely poor value and inflated prices and manned by guys in suits. Food is no better than a ""5"" out of ""10"". Drive right by and go to the Dandelion Green next to Burlington mall for a great value (good food at respectable cost or Legals at the mall. Pros: good parking Cons: list is too long more

What happened? 10/6/2008

This place sure went a bit downhill ....\r Food is bland, overpriced, inconsistent, and some tastes ""pre-prepared""...\r Service is sometimes spotty too...\r \r All in all, it's almost time to drive by this place and take your hits at the less expensive Dandelion Green across from Burlington Mall. At least there you won't feel as bad if you end up with below average dish and not have to pay a fortune for it.... Pros: fancy place, ""secret service"" wannabe's make you feel safe Cons: inconsistent food, service, and overpriced.. more

WAY over rated ... 7/17/2008

We had not been here for about 3 months and at that time we had a bad time.....bland food and poor service. We went last weekend and were so dissapointed. No water - had to ask twice. No bread - had to ask a 2nd waitress. Food was only fair except for the french onion soup that was preety good. I'm not sure what those ""secret service"" wanna-be guys do running around with ear plugs...but they sure didn't help us. Late food. A mixed up order. Not the best seating even though we reserved. And like another reviewr said, STAY AWAY from gourmet area with monkey-suited waiters....\r We willnever go there again! Pros: easy to find Cons: food average, prices high, service mixed, mixed up reservations more

Complete disaster! 12/19/2007

I've never had such crummy service that i was inclined to do this.. but this one did it. I planned a surprise birthday party for my mother at the ""regular folks dining room"" on 12/14/07. The table was over a half hour late, despite having made reservations far in advance, and the hostess didnt bother to tell me when I ""checked in"". This caused complete chaos amongst our group and the ""Secret Service"" guy had to be called in, though he wasnt much help.... The surprise was nearly ruined. After finally being seating and sitting for nearly 20 minutes we actually had to ASK for menus. 20 minutes after that we had to ASK for water and even bread! (all having been asked of the ""secret service"" folks because our server was nowhere to be seen). Several of my guests broke down and went to the bar to get served drinks, and the bottles of wine I asked for took THREE requests (and a good 45 mintues) to arrive. The salads were quite literally thrown at us by several different servers who didnt care that the orders were completely screwed up and ignored us when we made this known. While dinner was quite tasty, it was seriously overpriced for what you got and for the completely terrible service. Was quite glad that the gratuity wasnt included in our bill so I could tip accordingly. Pros: Looks fancy and impressive Cons: TERRIBLE service more

HIGHLY OVER RATED 10/17/2007

The place tries to be a classy higher end restaurant. It even has a ""gourmet"" area with guys dressed up in ""monkey"" outfits (black suits) to impress customers for an additional 40% charge on the identical food (served with a bit more ""class""). Guess what? We went twice with other couples. Both times - the food s - cked ...or at least was no better than a place like the Dandelion Green that charges much less. You know what - drive by this joint and go across from the Burlington Mall to the Dandelion Green or in the mall to Legal Seafoods for great fish meals. We were not impressed. And I p - ssed my pants seeing the ""secret service"" wanna-bes with earphones hidden in their ears and wire sticking out......the ""managers"" I guess.... what a joke!! HIGH PRICES and AVERAGE FOOD!!!!. Pros: looks upscale Cons: everything else more

It's not as good as some people think 10/15/2007

The place is not the splendid restaurant that some people think. We have eaten there (in regular ""peon"" section) a number of times. The food in the ""peon"" section is good, but certainly not ""top shelf"". I agree with another reviewer - the ""gourmet"" section is one mother of a rip-off, just for ""separation"" from the massses and waiters with suits....all that for about a 30-40% extra charge! GIVE ME A BREAK!! In fact, gourmet section food is no better than ""peon"" section (so I'm told and I did try it once with a group). The place is clean and atmosphere, while ""busy"", is fairly good. But the food is a ""6"" on a 1-10 scale and VALUE is a ""4"" on a 1-10 scale. Pros: clean and resembling a bit upscale Cons: VALUE (proce vs. quality of food), more

STAY AWAY FROM GOURMET SECTION 10/13/2007

We ate at the Escadrille on 10/12/07. There were 8 of us for special occasion in ""Gourmet Section"" where wait staff is in suits and they refold your napkin every time you get up to go to the bathroom. We paid $900 with tip! We got 2 doz oysters, 6 french onion soups, a salad, and orders of rck of lamb ,1 order of halibut.,, and 1 grilled swordfish The result:\r Oysters and soups were good....but it ended there!\r ALL of rck of lambs were bloody and significantly undercooked ($78 for order for 2)! Not one person enjoyed the lamb and each was hesitant to ""send it back) due to ""horror stories"" of chef anger and result when one sends stuff back. The halibut smelled a bit offensive - certainly NOT fresh! The grilled swordfish was a small pice and VERY thick and hardly cooked! Tough to cook thick slab of swordfish. The person had guts to send it back to butterfly and cook it more - but it was still not very good. We also had one drink each before dinner and 1 glass of wine each. IT WAS A VERY DISSAPOINTING EVENING AND WE ALL FELT ""CHEATED"".\r Do yourself a favor - stick to non-gourmet area if you dare go...at least you don't pay the 40% more for essentially the same food! We will NEVER return to this place!! \r hey must have hired hispanic illegal aliens for cooks!! Pros: good oysters and french onion soup Cons: most everything else and UNDERCOOKED food! more

Waitresses are homely 10/3/2007

The food is fair and not worth the money. Deserts are fair-good. The place is over rated. To compound it all, the waitresses are not young and good looking. Every one has many miles on them. I don't even care if any give good head. They are homely. For that laone, I'm not returning. Pros: location is easy Cons: waitresses are homely ......makes one lose his ""woody"" more

fair to average and a good ""head"" with real towels 9/27/2007

Who rates this place and averages out to 4 stars? I see low ratings but still 4 stars by the site poster?. It IS NOT a 4 star place! It has gone downhill ! It is OVERPRICED for what you get! Salad? A premade chilled plate of cheap salad pieces.....\r Forget the ""Gourmet"" section that has guys dressed up in Tuxes...similar food but you pay for more space, a bit less noise, and to be away from the ""rif-raf peons""...so they think. For that you pay about 35% more! \r The steaks are at best ""average"". They bring you some bread and the butter is always HARD AS A ROCK!! No class! A GOOD restaurant will bring you butter that you can at least spread. We found the food to be no better than ""average"" in the 3 times we have gone with friends. Very busy and almost a ""factory"". Also, the manager guys who walk around with tiny ear phone plugs/wires...not too classy..they look like Secret Service agents. The one good touch - they have a great ""head"" with real towels and clean piss-post! The parking is also preety good....otherwise..a fair to average place. Pros: good ""head"" with cloth towels and clean ""piss-post"" Cons: overpriced for quality obtained..and too ""busy"" more

Not what it used to be. You'll be better off somewhere else. 1/1/2007

I am extremely disappointed in the Escadrille. The food served at my function was very average. My salad had wilting, slimy lettuce in it. The vegetarian meal was an uncreative pasta with tomato sauce. Servers picked up my guests' plates before they were done with their meals. And the icing on the cake -- the surprise charges on the bill. The function coordinator did not fully inform me of the cost of the meals and another miscellaneous charge. When I informed her of my disappointmenting experience, she apologized but did not offer to credit my bill. The Escadrille used to be known as a great restaurant. Not anymore. Most certainly not worth the price! Pros: nice function halls Cons: food not good; overpriced more

If all you want is a Martini......... 12/29/2006

A friend of mine was nice enought to take me out to celebrate my birthday and I let him choose the place, Cafe Escadrille. The service was alright, the martinis were great, the food was probably the worst I've ever had. Think about the worst wedding banquet you've ever been to and then take a step down. We started with grilled shrip and buffalo mozzarella and the crab stuffed mushrooms. Someone in the kitchen need a dictionary because the closest these shrimp got to a grill was the charcoal at the stop and shop. Likewise with the crab stuffed mushrooms, SHOW ME THE CRAB, there was no crab???? For an entree I decided to pick from their special list and ordered a porterhouse steak medium rare and a baked potato. If you decide to go to Cafe Escadrille and order a steak order it raw, you'll be lucky if you get it md-well. Skip the baked potato it has probably been nuked 17 times before it got the the table, the salad was ice box cold and not very fresh. I did send the steak back and asked for nothing in return, come on folks if you can't cook a steak as ordered why would you want anything else from the same kitchen. My dining companion got a filet mingon and lobster tail, the lobster tail was so overcooked you couldn't even chew it and the filet was drowned in a sauce not needed for such a cut of meat, unless your trying to hide something. Had the manager been worth his salt he would've comped at least one of the cocktails. This establishment should not, in my opinion, exist. McDonald'd does a better job with beef! If your considering going here think again. In an area where there are so many great restaurants why would you settle for the worst. Mark my words, go somewhere else. Cons: think worst wedding food you've ever had more

should have listened to the other reviewer 3/6/2006

i read a negative review, and went to cafe escadrille anyway,we were a party of 4,and were all dissapointed. the onion soup was toooo cheesy and greasy, the clams casino were greasy and clamless, the salads were a joke of wilted lettuces-the chicken was tough and dry,but all of that could be possibly explained or excused-but there is absolutely no excuse for 3 baked spuds at 7:30 pm looking and tasting like they were sitting around since morning! the service was good,as were the martinis-everything else YUK! more

bigger size..lower quality 10/13/2002

We ate at the cafe Escadrille on 10/11/02, some years after my last visit. The place has significantly expanded and even has valet parking. But, that is where it all stops. The food quality has suffered. Our salads came with cheap/tasteless iceberg lettuce. The grilled artichoke appetizer was ruined by a pre-prepared cheese topping that I had trouble digesting all night. The sirloin I got was a bit tough and my wife's veal plate was smothered with some sort of milky sauce. The butter was frozen. The wine very overpriced. About the only good thing was the bread. The place was noisier that TGIF and has a ""cheapened"" atmosphere. Too bad they ""expanded"".. Drive right by and do yourself a favor - you are better off at Legal Seafoods in Burlington Mall or Dandelion Green nearby...... Pros: bread, location, parking Cons: value, food, noise more
