Best

We recently tried Cafe Ena for the first time. The service was fantastic, very helpful. The food was even better. It was also Thursday, which i guess is half price wine night. Wil...

Worst

Nothing more maddening to have very good food but TERRIBLE service. Have visited 3x hoping that things would change but apparently management is comfortable with the status quo. ...

excellent food and service! (try the Monk fish mmm, mmm good) 12/15/2007

after visiting the rest. last night feel i need to leave a review after reading a few of the above - had excellent food and service - was very busy of course on a full friday evening but couldn't tell as we were treated well. Walked in for our res - table ready in 5 minutes, had a great bottle of wine while we waited. Then the food was good from appetizer to the end. The Monk fish was my favorite (am a little biased as that was my dish)! Pros: service - was doted on for the entire eve more

Love this place! 12/4/2007

My husband and I have been to Cafe Ena two times - once this past summer and then again in November. Both dining experiences were delightful. The first time we had not made reservations and had to wait about an hour but it was a beautiful night and got to explore the neighborhood. When we returned we were able to enjoy a glass of wine from their great selection and were then seated. The ambience is cozy and people watching is great. The food is definitely the high point, it is to die for! They use wonderful blends of spices in their dishes. The presentation of the food is great and the taste is exquisite. The experience is infused with latin music to further enhance the experience. We loved the great selection of appetizers - the ceviche was memorable. We would highly recommend this place and agree it may be one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants in the Twin Cities. Pros: Excellent selection of entrees Cons: Dinner had to eventually end! more

Great New Restaurant in the Neighborhood 8/15/2007

The food was great, we had appetizers - they were awesome and my meal and the other four meals were equally good. I have also been there with my kids 6 and 8 and they love it - they can have original orange pop from Mexico and cheese quesadillas they were satisfied. The wine we had was also good. I wish they served some of their bottled wine by the glass - but over all all three times I have been there have been very good Pros: Great Service, nice atmosphere and great food Cons: more wines by the glass selection more

Lousy service, high prices, small portions; food okay 8/12/2007

We dropped by Cafe Ena for Friday lunch. Restaurant busy but not unusual for Friday lunch in the city. Very slow service. Waited long time to give order, to get order, and get bill. Finally went to counter to get bill. Waiter couldn't answer basic questions about the menu. Hung around saying ""I don't know"" until we gently suggested he ask someone in the kitchen. Didn't ask us how we wanted something cooked. Waiter brought us food meant for another table. Salad came missing ingredients. Bathroom out of paper towels. In frustration, asked to see manager. No manager. Hostess unable to resolve any issues, seemed flustered. Food okay, atmosphere okay, but not worth poor service, high prices, small portions. Menu also limited on veggie items. Wouldn't recommend. more

We had a great experience! 8/11/2007

We ate at Cafe Ena mid-August '07 and had a fabulous experience! Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, the by-the-glass wine selection was nice, our clean water glasses were kept full and the place was packed both at 7:30 when we arrived and were promptly seated, and at 9:30, when we were leaving. My scallops were tender and served with a beautiful mix of julienne vegetables and fruits in a sauce so good I wanted to mop my plate with their wonderful French bread. Every plate that passed our table was a feast for the eyes. My friend had the ahi tuna, and she loved her entree as well. It was a delightful experience and we will definitely go back again. . Pros: Beautiful, well-prepared food, great service, and creative cooking. more

BOO cafe ena. worst dining experience ever 8/9/2007

We had to sit under the AC vent which dripped all over us AND our food. Our server seemed very overwhelmed and flustered. Our food took a VERY long time I would say almost 40 min from the time we ordered to when we got our food. We never got our appetizer. We didn't get the correct wine we ordered. We ordered one dessert and got another. Our dishes, glasses and silverware were all FILTHY! we had to polish our own silverware. When we just wanted to get out of there our server never brought our check. We had to go ask the host for it, then he never came and picked up our credit card we had to bring it up also. This might not seem that awful of an experience to some of you but for two people our bill was $135. We weren't being cheap. We came to spend money, and have a good time. We felt cheated. For how much money we spent we should have had a MUCH MORE enjoyable experience. We will NOT, NO, NEVER go back to ena. Pros: bathrooms are nice Cons: service, portions too small, dirty dirty dishes more

BAD service 8/3/2007

we went to cafe ena for my birthday and it alone ruined our night. We had made a reservation and we had to wait about 20 extra minutes to be sat. From the start our waiter was short and unfriendly. He never told us about the specials. When we explained that we were in a bit of a rush, (only because we were sat late) he didn't even respond. He had no personality. The appetizer that we ordered never came and when we inquired he said ""dammit, I forgot"" no sorry about that, no would you still like that? just a ""dammit"". The dinner we did get took FOREVER! well my boyfriends did. I watched my food sit on their counter for nearly 10 min. When we asked our server if he could check when the food would be ready he simply replied ""as you can see we are very busy, I'm sure it will be out soon."" but he said it with attitude, patronizing, like we were whiney six year olds. I ordered a second glass of wine which he never brought. We sat with empty water glasses for our whole meal. no one seemed friendly, not the busser or the hosts. I don't go to places for 'great' service but I defiantly stay away from the places who have awful service. It was an over all disastrous experience, and we missed our movie. The food was good but mine was cold. I don?t think we will go back to Ena, nor will I recommend it to anyone and I would even go so far as to say just pick some other place. They charge too much to feel this disappointed. Pros: nice wine list, pretty decor Cons: SERVICE was awful, Food was cold more

Can I just get a CLEAN glass 8/2/2007

I recently dined at the new cafe ena. Save your money. We had to wait 25 minutes after our RESERVED time to be seated. There are ton of tables and it is really noisy. When I went to drink out of my water glass there was an even layer of grime all over it. I asked my server if he could get me a clean one and he returned with a glass equally as dirty. There was also lipstick marks all over my wine glass when he brought it out to me. I watched a server sneeze into his hands and then grab someones food without washing them. As if that weren't enough health code strikes there was a piece of hair in my husbands food. When we alerted our waiter he seemed somewhat unconcerned, like we were bothering him with a trivial complaint. He didn't even offer him something else off the menu. The food was good, a little over priced for the portions and way over priced for the experience. I was grossed out by the lack of concern for cleanliness. I felt really let down, there are few things more disappointing than a bad dining experience. Pros: winelist Cons: apathetic- unfriendly service, lack of cleanliness more

Stay away from their Specials 7/22/2007

I grew up in this neighborhood. Does anyone remember the Grand Dairy? This restaurant is located in the same spot. We decided to try it out since I had read a great review which also mentioned reasonable prices. I would say that the average entree price is $18. My husband ordered a steak special with mashed potatoes and asparagas. Almost one third of the steak was fat. My mom and I split a caesar salad (very average in taste and size) and an appetizer special. The appetizers consisted of prochutto(?) wrapped scallops(2), deep fried shrimp(2) and tortilla chips(2) covered with pico de gallo and guacamole. The appetizers were excellent, but I wish the portions had been slightly larger. They don't have a kids menu but they do offer chicken tenders or a cheese quesadilla with french fries. Our bill, which consisted of the steak special, the appetizer special, two ala carte caesar salads, a quesadilla kids meal and two Tecate beers - $74. I don't know if I'll go back?? If I do, I'll order a regular menu item versus one of their ""specials"". Pros: Great Ambience, Good Service, Good Wine List Cons: Price/Value, Portion Size more

just what this neighborhood needed!!!! 7/21/2007

AMAZING food!!! Great, personalized service from genuine, well presented servers (I had the cute redhead, Colleen). What this couple has done, transforming that nasty corner store in to this gorgeous sort of mid- town manhattan bistro has awakened the neighborhood. For those of you that think the prices are a little high, just remember: great food costs a little extra. The price is definitely worth it. Try the Chile en Hogada!! Pros: Service, Food, over all welcomed feeling more

Finally !!!!! 5/23/2007

This neighborhood has been dying for something like this. Amazing food and amazing service! We sat at the little bar and applauded the food that was served because it was so pretty! The manager, Justin, is a DOLL ! We can't wait to go back! Pros: ambience, convenient, good prices, amazing food! more
