Best evening out in Hermosa Beach 4/9/2009

Slip inside the door and you are able to escape away to an evening in New Orleans. The restaurant features a long bar with tables running parallel for optimal viewing of the small stage in the corner. I love to watch people bust a move on the mini dance floor! The food is fantastic and I definitely recommend Fresh Louisiana Cornmeal Crusted Catfish and the Wood Grilled Artichoke. The music features live bands from all over the country...they must have a great talent scout! The place offers an authentic experience in a beach town that generally caters to flip flops, board shorts and a beer (not that there is anything wrong with that either). Pros: Guitar Solos and Blackened Catfish Cons: Cover fee (but entirely worth it) more

Last Saturday Night 10/13/2008

Last Saturday night the band was off the hook. One of the best bands I've seen in Boogaloo. The vibe was exactly what I needed. the beer cold and really friendly. This is place and Harvelle's in Santa Monica are the only real deals i've found in Los Angeles.\r -Al Pros: Food, drinks and Music more

Avoid Friday night, make reservations in advance. Take you friends. 12/14/2007

This restaurant has good food and drinks. You need reservations or you will have wasted your travel time.\r The cover charge is a bit steep. Not the safest area to travel alone! Get there in time to park in the lot. Otherwise forget it. Weeknights are far better than weekends. Music is better appreciated with friends. A good place for groups. Good value for your dollars food wise Pros: Go with a group of friends! Music and food are great on weeknights. Cons: Busy on Friday nights...get there early for parking. more

I may be biased, but this place is a gem.. 3/1/2007

Okay, okay, so I'm a blues musician, but like other reviewers stated, this place surprised me with it's excellent food and beer selection. Some friends and I stopped in Hermosa Beach to spend time before a flight, and ended up spending most of it at Cafe Boogaloo. The southern fried chicken with mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts and gravy was the best, though maybe not the best thing to eat before a 5 hour flight. The beer selection was good as well, and I was glad to catch up with one of the bartenders and talk about some of the bands that I'd played with that had been through the club. This is an excellent spot for great music and great food. Pros: ambience, music, food, booze selection, parking more

Good Food and drinks, better Blues 10/21/2006

This place has very good food considering the fact that it is a blues bar. I am shocked that such a cool place is in a quaint beach town like hermosa beach. This blues bar belongs in a place like chicago. Great crowd, great ambiance/decor, great music (the night we went), great drinks, and good service. If you dont go for the food, go for the music, if you are going for the good, get the blackened fish or better yet the jumbalya. If you want fantastic jumbalya and blues, come here, if you gumbo, I suggest you go to new orleans (two blocks away), for seafood gumbo. All in all, a teffic slice of new orleans Pros: Music, food, ambiance Cons: small cover charge more

best music in socal 4/1/2006

best music this side of new orleans - always good shows and fun people - best keot secret in LA! Pros: music, people, atmosphere Cons: early closing(1 am) more

Food That Won't Give You The Blues 2/5/2006

With a place that's so clearly focused on music (and good music at that), you'd expect the food to be only mediocre, but it was fantastic. The gumbo was delicious, and everything else was fresh and yummy as well. They've got a great selection of beers, too, and the ambiance is just perfect--kinda dark, with a great energy. Everyone's there to have fun, hear some good music and eat some good food. We dined during the week, so there was no cover, which was great--all that great blues at no extra cost! more

Best Blues! 9/4/2002

This place was great! After avoiding it for over a year of my residence here, we finally stepped in for a bite and were PLEASANTLY surprised at the service, the quality of the food, the bluesy atmosphere, and the bar!! Will definitely go back... the entrees were amazingly good (though rich) - go on an empty stomach! Pros: Great Food, Great Location, Nice Atmosphere more

Best Cajun 8/20/2002

Absolutely the best Blues house in the south bay. Fantastic food, great music and fun people. Pros: Great Music, Authentic Cajun Food, Location Cons: Loud Music, Parking more

Cajun Greatness! 8/19/2002

Boog's is the place to be in Hermosa! When you're out in the South Bay you have to make reservations for Boogaloo's. With a date or looking for one, your night will not be dissappointed. Great food! Great live music, (see Boog's website for this month's acclaimed lineup). A Great time! Pros: Great live bands, Great cajun food, Service Cons: parking more

Jumpin Hard 7/26/2002

Cafe Boogaloo is one of the best kept secrets of the South Cal bar scene. They have the best blues and jazz bands and one of the better selections in micro brews and exotic martinis. The people are beautiful and very cool. Occasionally you'll even come across a celebrity or two. Most recently, Clint Eastwood was hangin out just taking in the vibes and enjoying the sights of the fine ladies. A must for all cool people. Pros: Excellent bands, Great drink diversity, Cool crowd Cons: Poor parking, Crowded, Only one bar more

Off the Strand 6/20/2002

If you want to get away from the typical Hermosa Strand scene, Boogaloo's would be a good choice. Often book pretty talented bands, and when the music is good the place really rocks. Sometimes the cover is a bit steep, but if the acts right, its well worth it. more
