My friends and I make this place our birthday/special occasion hangout. We can bring our own wine and beer, sit in a heated patio, there's no table service, so you don't have to worry about servers giving you a dirty look for taking up their staion too long and the menu has something that both carnivore and vegetarian friends can enjoy. I love the food and atmospere here. I would come here everyday if my pockets allowed for it! The prices are quite high ...especially since there is no wait staff here. Come on a beautiful day and you will feel like you are in Brasil! :) If you come during a major soccer event, be sure to arrive early,otherwise you will not find a good seat. I have been here three times now and Cafe Brazil is now definitely one of my favorite places to eat in Los Angeles. The food is absolutely terrific!!! The place is definitely cute and a wonderful place to sit on a warm night, but dining there is not an option unless you're big on steak. The fish I had there once was so awful that I took one bite and left it on my plate and there are very few other options that don't incorporate red meat. Also, beware that when they list a menu item as ""grilled"" they mean ""fried in oil on the griddle."" The ambience just can't compensate for such bad food. I love this place. I've eaten there about 4 times in the last 2 months. The outdoor seating is fun for a night w/ the friends. Bring your own wine! Anyway, for lunch you can get a chicken/steak combo w/ beans, salsa, plantains (or collard greens) and buttered-up rice for $6.95; which is a steal. For dinner I always get the Ranchera steak, which is a thin, but flavorful skirt steak loaded w/ garlic. I do think this place is a little pricey considering there is no service. But I'll still come back. Too bad they didn't serve Caipirinhas (Brazilian Mojito). I've also tried the empadinhas, which are these fried flour pastries with either cheese or meat. Not bad. Park on a residential block and walk - don't bother with the valet. Every time i've gone there i've gotten the grilled picante fish -- served w/ rice, black beans, fried plantains, and salsa. Mmmm. The house CK drink is good -- passionfruit & sugar cane. The fejoada (pork stew) is yummy too -- but a little too beany for me. You can sit on patio furniture & dine by candlelight. When you go to Cafe Brazil there is valet parking in back ad you order you food at a counter. How LA! But the food is Terrific!!! I really wanted to hate this place. I had heard so much from friends and from reviewers. This place was hyped more than Jordan's last All Star appearance. That's what makes the fact that it lived up to all of it all the more telling. I think I'll just shut up now. GO! EAT! ENJOY! more

I stumbled upon Cafe Brazil when the line for Versailles went out the door and down the street. It was so much better than Versailles! Who wants to wait in that kind of line?
