I have been to this store an uncountable number of times, and would recommend it to everyone. The first time I came in, I was concerned and apprehensive. I've heard about the dangers of buying puppies in pet stores. However, after a lengthy conversation with a sales person, I feel immensely better. After discussing some of my concerns, they took me in the back of the kennel to see what's going on there. And I didn't have to wait while people scurried around to cover anything up. They just offered to take me back and did. So I know nothing was being hidden. It was super clean and the people were very focused on what they were doing. Also, they showed me a book that explains where the puppies come from that had pictures of the breeders and some of the parents and the breeders homes and yards, so I could see that the puppies weren't kept in teeny cages like they try to tell you on tv. And, I guess a new law was passed that says all pet stores have to tell you where the breeders are, so you get their full name and address and everything. Not just a state like someone else commented on. I purchased both of my dogs, a Westie and a Neapolitan Mastiff here, and have had no problems whatsoever. Petland had them both vaccinated and microchipped and vet checked before they came home. Then, we got a free vet check after we went home. Overall, I am extremely happy with Petland, and suggest that people go in and experience it for themselves before judging. Not all pet stores are created equal. This one is a winner! more

wonderful dog. 4/16/2011

So I guess that we are not the normal review. We got our Purebred Corgi In March. He was just barely 3 months old when we saw him in the store, we fell in love. He came home with us that night but, the process was a little ridiculous I think it took less time to buy a car. They sell you stuff you don't need and make it very clear that they work on commission which I think is really bad customer service. Even though that was an annoyance to me I must say we were very happy. Jack is an AKC registered dog that on his first visit had a complete clean bill of health. On His 2nd visit to the vet for shots he got another clean bill of health. Everyone loves him and he loves everyone I am happy with him and even though people say the things about that place don't you think that the animals are better off with you than at a pet store walking on a grate and living in a cage. more

Do your research 2/22/2011

To all those people who bought a puppy from a pet store and had bad luck I would like to say sorry about your luck. It has been well documented in the past that stores buy these dogs from back yard breeders that breed less than perfect examples of the breed they choose to breed. A breeder should breed for the betterment of the breed not profit. these breeders typically have 4 or more different breeds they breed and pump out litter after litter out of the same bitches regardless of the quality of the sires or dams. Not taking any consideration about temperament or the standard that the breed should poses. It is your fault as a consumer to get bamboozled by payment plans and cute puppies. There are tons of breeders in your areas that will let you come into their homes meet the parents and give you all the info you need and if reputable will give you the registration be it CKC AKC UKC at no extra cost. If they tell you that the parent are registered but it cost to much to do the puppies t more

NO REFUNDS lol really? 4/12/2010

So i'm getting my nails done a few doors down from the Round Lake store. I brought my older son with and of course he gets bored so I tell him to go give some of the puppy's at Petland some attention and make sure he picks up two of the peanut butter bones that we usually buy for our dogs.\r \r I give him $20.00 and he comes back with $3.00. I smiled and looked in the bag only to find that he chose the wrong bones. I informed him that we needed to go back to the store and exchange them before we went home. \r \r So I get done and walk down there thinking okay my son made a simple mistake and he just bought these bones in the last hour so just exchange them and get a refund for the difference "piece of cake" right? Wrong, lol. They said "Oh we are very sorry but we only give gift cards for refunds". So, I eventually got my way but that was the last time they ever saw me in that store again. \r \r Go to breeders..it's easy to buy from these...I think most people go to these pet shops because t more

Beware of Petland in Round Lake Beach, IL 7/8/2008

I bought my American Eskimo at Petland in Round Lake Beach, IL around June 28th. They told me that I get a free exam with the dog and I have to take it to their vet within 3 days. I took Mandy, my new puppy that is 10 weeks old to their vet in Gurnee on June 30th. The vet had asked me if there was anthing unusual with the puppy and I told her that I noticed that Mandy was sneezing alot. The vet informed me that on June 19th, which was her last pet visit, she had a cold. Now it is July 8th and she still is sick. Not only is Mandy sick but she has now spead this horrible cold to my other 2 dogs. Princess which is a Sheltie, she has been sneezing so much and Jordan, which is a Chow, Huskie, Lab mix is coughing up so much flem and also is sneezing really bad. \r \r My boyfriend called the little Prick, Adam that is a so called manager on July 7th and explained the problem. Adam said that he will not be responsible for our other dogs.My boyfriend said to him that you shouldn't be selling sick more

Don't buy your dog here. 10/6/2007

I looked into getting a dog from this chain of stores - The clerk was very vague about the animal and where he had came from - all they could tell me was "Missouri" - - Missouri, Kentucky etc are the sources of a lot of puppy mills. This dog was nothing near the "standard " of what this breeds desirable features were. Also, this dog had a scar - it had already had hernia surgery. But they wanted full price! It would be cheaper, and you'd get a better quality purebred from a reputable breeder. Besides, there are perfectly good dogs that need homes from the shelter, people!!!!Go here for supplies - not your dog. more

Beware 2/10/2007

I want people to beware of buying pets from this store, especially smaller dogs. My family recently bought a pocket pomeranian from this store which we needed to put to sleep after finding it had a bone disease. This disease, although we did not do an autopsy, is very common when "toy" dogs are inbreed according to our vet. While the store itself is nice to visit and carries a lot of pet supplies at good cost, be careful of buying pets there. more
