dont listen to the people who screw up 10/16/2011

I can nor belive that people have to take all there anger out on the people who try to help. I bet the one women on her wedding night was so incredablly rude to the people wjo work there that they just had enough of her and the other people. Some peole in are society today its just aweful. The buxton is hands down the best servise, best food, the most willing people that do everything. Go to the buxton. Its fantastic. more

Don't Bother 7/8/2011

Good: Service was good. Wine list seemed okay.. Bad: Food was some of the worst I have had and I have travelled extensively. The first entree I got was overcooked. I ordered the meat medium rare and it came medium well. It seemed to me that there was an awful lot of meat tenderizer on a filet. The baked potato was so hard that it was inedible. The vegetables (commercially prepared and probably only steamed there) were okay. After I sent the meat back, the server asked if I would like to change to the duck entree. I had to wait a long time. DRY and STRINGY.. Improvements: Could someone attend to the disaster that must be the kitchen? We came very early, so the grill must not have been busy, but still badly attended to and food overcooked.. Other: If you want an historic inn with decent food, go to Worthington! I don't mind paying for good products but this is NOT one of them. Pricey without quality. Sorry, I was really looking forward to my first visit, BUT, I will NOT be back. What a shame.. more

I have no pronlem eating there with all my friends and family. Five stars hands down more

special desserts 2/16/2010

You know they have taken great care in their desserts with most of the recipes from their Mother of 99 years old original recipies. I love the Gingerbread and Lemon sauce. Just like my Mom and Grandmother made it years ago. The Buxton takes me home and makes me feel very welcome any time I visit for lunch or just tea. more

Nice Decor 4/5/2006

I’ve been to the Buxton several times and have always found the food good and the staff friendly, but for certain it is the atmosphere that draws one to this place. Set up in what seems to be an old mansion, this place is very charming. My favorite place to dine is the Green House. I recently stayed over night at the Inn as well and though rumored to be haunted, I found no ghosts that night, but certainly creaky floors. more

Beware! 3/21/2006

From ghost stories to bad service--I suggest you watch out! Hotel rooms are very nice and the building decor is as well, but the staff are a bit snotty, at least the ones I have encountered. I had booked a room 9 months in advance after making a special trip to see the available ones, so that I could have the one we wanted on our wedding night before our honeymoon. Much to our dismay, they had not only given our room to someone else but they wanted to put us in that room WITH THEIR THINGS!!! Yes, the people might return (of course they would) but we could just go in and stay. Apparently these people had booked in the same room for the few days preceding and decided to stay longer and wouldn't give their room up. There were no more rooms available and basically they kicked us into a room that had been canceled just as we arrived. It ended our wedding day horribly to have to stand in a lobby IN OUR WEDDING CLOTHES waiting for them to get us a room. To rectify it, they would give us a bottle of white wine---BIG DEAL! When we went to check out the next morning, we conveniently had a $600 bill--dinner tabs, phone calls, room stay---all from the original room we were intended to have. They had us as the occupants!!!! We were upset and had enough. The woman at the desk was very rude and called the manager because she thought we were trying to pull a fast one (which was later cleared up, but no apologies or concessions were made). If I were you, just have a meal there--its not that great of food--but at least you won't end up with a $600 bill! more

Good food, nice atmosphere 8/19/2005

While several friends were in town for a visit, we decided to try the Buxton Inn for lunch. We sat in a very nice sunroom/terrace area. The service was great. All 3 of my dining companions absolutely loved their meals. I felt my main course was just average, but dessert more than made up for it. The service was excellent, and the prices were very fair. It was a very nice, relaxing place for a long lunch. Despite my main course not being spectacular, I would go back and try the Buxton Inn again. more
