Butler Automotive

I had hired Butler Automotive in Martinez to rebuild my chevy 350 small block. I was told that the block would be thoroughly honed and prepared and the rebuild would be complete. What I found when I had to tear my engine down at 12,000 miles... 4 of the 8 pistons were used and severely pitted, the cylinder walls were honed but to a minimum with no mind paid to whether or not it was enough, it was not and I found my cylinders are rippled. 2 of my piston rings are already blown. The head bolts were not thread sealed where they went into the water jackets resulting in a series of small water leaks right from the start. Upon reinstallation and reassembly, the original bolts were used which is much like reusing any other part meant to be replaced. The bolts were stretched beyond their limits and therefore contributed to the engine failing at 12,000 miles In a nutshell, this is not the result of professional work as the shortcuts taken are those that would not have seen until just enough time had passed that the warranty had expired. The work is really not even amateur quality. The rebuild kit they had used was either incomplete or they had reused my original components in order to save the new parts for something else or the engine was never truly broken down. more

NEVER USE THIS REPAIR SHOP!!! They will try to rip you off!! My vehicle broke down in Georgia in June 2012 and AAA towed my vehicle TO this repair shop. Since I was not familiar with the area, I used AAA's recommendation on a repair shop. They informed me the next day that my entire engine needed to be replaced and with my AAA discount the repair would be over $5200!! So I googled the name of the repair shop and after reading other complaints, I decided to pay the difference to have my vehicle towed back to Lexington, SC to my normal mechanic. After checking my vehicle from top to bottom, my normal mechanic determined that all I needed was a new radiator and the total repair cost including the towing was around $600. He checked my engine from top to bottom and could not find anything that the other place said that they saw....beware of these people! I have also informed AAA so they are also investigating this! more

The people there are very helpful, and I appreciate that they offer free loners. So I can drop off my car, and still go do something else while they work on my car. I have eleven cars, and I spend a lot of money at Butler Automotive, I'm probably their best customer! I have old cars, my oldest is a '39, but I have a '49 and a '51 too. Cliff handles all of my stuff over there. He goes out of his way to find parts for me. They don't always get it right the first time, but my cars are old and they do their best!
