I had a perfectly poured Guiness and the most delicious fish and chips I've ever had for lunch. We sat on the patio on a beautiful day and really enjoyed the atmosphere. I can't...

Traditional Irish Pub, Decent Food 5/18/2006

The Burren is a mainstay of Davis Square, which you know if you've to walk through the patrons yelling and smoking on the sidewalk. It's mostly like that late in the week, though, and on weekends. The rest of the time the Burren is a nice place to get beer and pizza with friends and here live music, Irish or otherwise. There is an Irish sessiun on Sunday afternoons and often live music in the back later in the week. A good selection of beer and a decently pulled pint of Guinness. more

The Burren 4/24/2006

The Burren. There are 364 days a year when this locale is just another great Irish bar. Then there is St Patrick's Day. The day and the place are synonymus. The Gaelic sound, the souls of angels mix with the ancient tribal gang feelings. Green here is a metaphor for all that borders on the wild and the magical. The Burren defines Davis Square, though many people pass it and never enter. It is really a haunt for the ancient youthful chalice of hope that rises to the top of the last great mug of memories you gulped. The Burren stands for the place where you ready yourself with bravery. No one knows you there but yet you are well understood. more

Authentic Irish Bar 3/21/2006

The difference between visiting this bar on a weekday and weekend is drastically different. On the weekdays, it is slow and quiet, and fun, live, irish music can be seen/heard. Even the workers are mostly irish, contributing to the bar's authentic irish vibe. The weekends though are another story. I visited once on a weekend and was charged $5 to get into a very, crowded bar filled with un-somerville-type bostonians. All in all though, this bar is a fun time. . more

Editorial
  • The Scene
Irish music and dancing are the centerpiece at this large Davis Square pub, which is usually packed with a boisterous crowd of Tufts grads and undergrads. But don't count out folks from the other side of the river who are looking for live music, a great beer selection (Guinness, Murphy's Irish Stout and Caffrey's, to name a few) and perhaps a phone number or two.

    The Draw
The Burren's secret weapon is the music. You'll find an authentic, Irish-style gathering of musicians grouped around a table seven nights a week. The Backroom also plays host to a variety of local and visiting performers and a weekly open mic night. A popular weekend brunch (served 10am-3pm) allows homesick expats to enjoy full Irish breakfasts. The lunch and dinner menus consist of familiar pub fare (fish and chips, shepherd's pie, bangers and mash).
