Love this place! Great food with lots of choices for vegetarians and vegans more

My favorite 5/29/2010

My favorite meal to eat out is brunch. Even more wonderful is being able to combine sweet and savory, that way you don't have to decide between the scramble and the pancakes. Typically this means I go with a friend and we order 2 dishes, then split. But here, you can do it all on your own. Have a scramble then instead of toast ask for the pancake (delicious) or cinnamon french toast (devine). To top it all off, they have the best syrup ever, they make their own!! And the fruit, I love the fruit cups! As someone who is allergic to melon I constantly have to object to the fruit in restaurants. Again, here it is so different! My fruit cup comes with persimons, dates, blueberries, kiwi, mmm. How can you not love this place? And it's great they try to keep their food as local as possible. Hands down my favorite brunch spot in Portland. Pros: Everything Cons: It's far away... more

Cute place 12/6/2009

This place is really cute and they were accommodating for my party of 6 on a Sunday morning. Although their menu doesn't say it, you can substitute tofu for eggs in any of their scrambles. However, the tofu was really dry and needed plenty of salt and aardvark sauce. The portions for the scrambles seemed pretty small but some of the other combination platters were large. The waitress was incredibly sweet. There's a maximum of 2 credit cards per table and they won't budge on that so just be prepared with cash if you want to split the cost more than two ways. Pros: very sweet waitress, cute place Cons: small portions on scrambles, small dining room more

Outstanding food and service 6/2/2009

We arrived at Bumblekiss to find all tables taken last Sunday morning. They brought us coffee while we waited, which was really nice. A table came up; we decided to wait for one outside. Later, we thought we might take one inside - but no, one of the umbrella tables seemed to be opening up, so we'd wait for that. (Truly, we usually aren't such pains!) The staff should have been plotting our demise, but what did they do? They brought us a complimentary plate of muffins and apologized for our wait! We were still marveling at their amazing attitude when our order arrived and we switched to raving about the fabulous food. In short (is it too late?) the food was out of this world and the service even better. We'd move in there if we could! Pros: Original, wonderful food plus exceptional service Cons: They can use more umbrellas more

My boyfriend and i have been eating a Bumblekiss weekly for over a year. We have consistently recieved awesome service and incrediable food. We go almost every Wednesday and Nan, our wonderful server is always there with a smile, oramge juice and coffee. She makes us feel so welcome! We have tried most every menu item, but always look forward to the specials, especially the seasonal pancakes and french toast. Bumblekiss does everything just right! more

Best breakfast I've EVER had. Seriously. 9/22/2008

This place is tiny, and there are not a lot of tables, so there is frequently a wait. It is so worth waiting for. There is a ping pong table in the garage where you can pass some time. The food here is remarkable. I think in all of my life I have not had a breakfast this good. That's a strong statement, my friends. I had a scramble that was filling and every bite was a little explosion of goodness in my mouth. My husband had the tacos and he said they were awesome. Pros: Stupendous food. Cons: So far from my house. Sad. more

Great food, worth the sometimes long wait 3/2/2008

Mr Rose and I have eaten here several times. It can get a bit crowded in the tiny main room and the service is sometimes a bit spotty - or dipsy, maybe? Pros: Great food Cons: Sometimes long waits, cramped quarters. more

Worst seating policy ever 12/16/2007

We were very excited to try this place for breakfast on Sunday and anticipated a wait. When we arrived, we put our name down (2 adults, 1 child) for the inside section (the garage was dismal inside, cold even with the outdoor heater, but still packed). We were told about a 20 minute wait. At about 15 min, we checked and were told 2 parties of 2 still ahead of us. There are only 2 tables in the main seating area (non-garage) that accommodate more than 2 people. One of the tables of 4 opened up but they sat a party of TWO there! The other table of 4 hadn't even been served their food yet. We were then told we COULD sit in the garage at a table of 2 and they would add a space for our child (the other party of 2 ahead of us wanted the inside). We agreed to the garage, but then in walked the other party and sat down. Guess they didn't want the interior after all. But then the staff refused to seat us at a table of 2 on the inside and said we would have to wait for one of the tables of 4 to open up--surely at least another 30+ minutes. WHAT??? Couldn't stick around for that. Hopefully they'll wisen up to seat larger parties at the larger table since the wait for a small table is so much shorter. Staff absolutely unapologetic about giving us mixed messages and poor treatment. more

Great vibe & yummy, healthy food 11/8/2007

This place has such a welcoming atmosphere, and some of the stuff on the walls was really cool - just a nice place to be. It was pretty empty (a weekday lunch) when we were there, but the service was great, and it seemed like everyone working there really cared about the food. It's definitely a gormet diner kind of place - very fresh and upscale ingredients (smoked salmon, goat cheese, leeks, caramelized onions, etc), but with really reasonable prices. And breakfast is served every day til 3pm. Try the mushroom scramble with rosemary - delicious. Pros: fun and creative menu, good service, fun vibe Cons: a little expensive for a sandwich, small more

yum! 11/4/2007

i've only been for breakfast, but the food was delicious (eggnog pancakes!) and our server super friendly and attentive. the portions are generous- i was only able to eat half of my scramble, potatoes and toast. the scramble was the special of the day- applewood bacon, carmelized onions, pears, feta, spinach... so good. Pros: delicious food, not too crowded (yet) Cons: small space more

where I want to be sunday morning 11/3/2007

local ingredients, friendly service, a welcome addition the the Fremont Strip. I would get there early or be prepared to wait on a sunday or saturday brunch day. Get anything on special...I always find it to be funner then regular menu options. Pros: fun decor, yummy food, good to take people who are visiting Cons: a wait sometimes, have had not as great food a couple times (but always decent) more

Cute place 10/20/2007

After reading the reviews about Bumblekiss, my boyfriend and I decided to try this place on Saturday with our 4 1/2 yr. old daughter. We thought it was a cute place but didn't realize how small the restaurant was going to be. I ordered the Chickadee sandwich and my boyfriend ordered the Burly Benny, and my daughter got the french toast, 1 of the 2 options for kids menus. When the food arrived, we were dissapointed. My sandwich was full of lettuce, tomato slices, and maybe a tablespoon of chicken salad. There was very little sauce to hold it together and barley any chicken salad in the sandwich. When I took a bite, all the chicken would fall out. It could be a wonderful sandwich but was I left feeling unsatisfied. My boyfriend's biscuits and gravy were extremely bland and flavorless. Adding salt to it didn't seem to make it for the lost flavor or the porridge like consistency. It was so bad, he only ate the sausage. The waitress was kind enough to give us half off, which was very nice of her. My daughter's french toast was very good, probably the best thing that we ordered. Maybe we visited on the chef's off day or something because we were expecting great tasting food but we were let down. There were plenty of creative items to order so maybe what we ordered was fluke or something. Pros: Cozy place, creative menu items and names, good service Cons: Loud atomosphere, front door constantly being slammed open/shut, small menu for kids, more

Fabulous breakfasts & service 12/7/2006

I love this bright, cheerful space which makes me feel gleeful even before I am inside and seated to enjoy the terrific food presented with TLC by efficient and genial servers. Every breakfast I have had has been superb -- from ""pumpkin pie"" French toast to biscuits & gravy. Even menu item names bring a smile to my face. My one lunch entree was also quite good, and friends with me raved about their sandwiches. I will return often to this delightful dining spot. Cons: Kid-friendly, which can sometimes be annoying to elders trying to enjoy quiet conversation more

Great service, and creative wonderful food 12/3/2006

On a recent trip to the Northwest, we discovered this small, colorful restaurant & stopped in for breakfast. To our great delight, we found the food original, creative, and delicious! The service was prompt and cheerful. I would highly recommend stopping here on your trip to Portland. Pros: Ambience, creative original menu, service more

Nice neighborhood spot 11/28/2006

This is a sweet little spot for breakfast and a fun addition to our neighborhood. I'm always in a dilemma whether to order something sweet or savory so I love the fact that you can get a little bit of both with one order. Brilliant! How come no one else does that??? The service was very friendly and they genuinely seemed glad to see you. more

Amazing french toast 10/26/2006

I just recently found this little place and love it. They have the best french toast and their specials are hard to resist. I also love the meatballs pasta, which is very reasonably priced, that they have at lunch and dinner. more
