The Best Buffalo Burger Around!! 8/31/2008

The steaks and burgers at the Bulls Head Restaurant are fantastic. The Steak Sandwich is awesome and the Onion Rings are greasy and a heart attack waiting to happen. The main attraction are the Buffalo Burgers. Bulls Head touts the Buffalo meat as having much lower cholesterol making it a healthier alternative to the cow. You can order the buffalo patty in either 1/3 or 1/2 lb variations as a substitute for any of their burger sandwiches. You can also order the buffalo steak which I must admit I have not tried. Even the fish sandwich is nicely prepared. For its value, Bulls Head serves quality food. The downside to the restaurant is that if you are looking for ambiance, this not the place for you. I have eaten here many a time and have yet to have a bad meal here. Pros: Excellent Burgers and Steak Sandwiches... Unlimited Trips to Salad Bar for $6.50 Cons: Ambience reminds me of a $2.99 All u can eat Reno Buffet more

Good but Overpriced 12/5/2007

I've been going to Bullshead for years regularly, and the food is generally pretty solid, but nothing spectacular. The burgers are inconsistent, one day they can be unbelievable, the next day they can be dry and average if the meat isn't prepared well. Aside from the burgers, which are on the high end price-wise, but reasonable, the rest of the restaurant is terribly overpriced. I do not suggest getting a steak, particularly a filet because the cuts of meat they use are consistently very fatty and certainly not worth the 30 dollar price tag. The chicken breast used as a sandwich and a dinner is often dry and rough to the point that it doesn't seem that the chicken used is as fresh as the other meat. The salad bar is good, but overpriced. This is generally a good restaurant, but stick with the burgers. Otherwise you might have a bad experience. Pros: burgers Cons: no value, steaks more

Best tasting hambugers 9/8/2007

Don't let the reviews on service keep you from trying these hambugers. I get off the couch, in my car- and drive over twin peaks to get the best burger ever. The Hawaiian is amazing-with added crunchy bacon. The meat is superb-juicy. In defence of the restraunt, I rather take it to go, and don't expect I would be as comfortable as eating it back at home. It's a burger joint, I don't expect fine dining. I dine at the finest restraunts in the City, however, I don't expect the staff to provide great ""table service"" here. What I do get is a fierce hambuger. The reviews expecting great table service are irrelevant.... ITS A GREASY SPOON-GOOD GRIEF. They have quality beef that tastes great. Pros: best tasting beef in burger Cons: take it to go more

Best Hamburgers in San Francisco 8/10/2006

Bullshead in the West Portal District has THE BEST hamburgers in San Francisco. They have yummy thick fries and a good salad bar. It isn't a fancy place, but the food is delicious. The wait staff is friendly too. Pros: Great hamburgers, steaks, fries Cons: West Portal parking more

Not worth the hype 7/23/2006

First I'll say our server was an adorable young girl who did her best to make sure we were happy. She didn't, however, have any control over the cook, which she needed. They specialize in Buffalo and though it's healthier than beef or chicken it's an aquired taste. I had the hawaiian burger which sounded great... sounded. The food was over priced and for lack of better elloquency just didn't taste good. Every peice of silverware at the table had to be replaced including the knifes brought with the appitizer due to dried crusted food... and this is all on its grand opening day. I understand that nothing is perfect right out the gate, hell when Disney Land opened it's doors for the first time NOTHING worked, but at least Walt had the decency to clean the knifes and forks before he set the table. Pros: great location, wonderful service Cons: too expensive for the food they serve more

Excellent Burgers in Average Setting 3/12/2006

The Burgers are absolutely OUTSTANDING!!! *Didn't have regular burgers but rather Buffalo* The meat was juicy hand-made patties served with the normal fixin's. Asked for one medium and one medium well- go figure, a burger joint that actually cooked to temperature and did it right!!! Went in during off-time afternoon hours and despite only one other table, service was just so-so. Ice tea sat empty for a while and no one checked back until time to clear the plates. Fries were great tasting and looked hand-cut... but were served luke warm. Burgers were in the $7-$10 range but are well worth it!!!! Hop on the K, L, or M Muni line, get off at West Portal station and walk around the corner for one of the best burgers ever!!! Pros: Great Burgers, Great Burgers, Great Burgers more

TERRIFIC FOOD! 8/24/2005

Don't believe the woman that wrote the editorial review. She doesn't know what she's talking about! The food here is wonderful and the prices are comparable for the quality you get! Fresh burgers and steaks with wonderful toppings and a side of fresh cut fries! mmmmmm! And the salad bar is one of the best i've seen in a steakhouse. It's a salad bar buffet and if you get it with a burger, it's only an addictional $3.50. Just try this place once and you'll see! more

Don't tell anyone 7/31/2005

This is a fabulous find, great hambugers, excellent steaks, good service. Five of us ate for $90.00! We all loved it. Don't tell anyone else. more

A necessary stop 7/8/2005

Everytime I come back to SF for a visit I try to fit in a visit. Love their burgers. My nephews have been there with me several times. They remind me everytime we got to SF that we must get the great burgers. We always take the metro so we do not have to worry about parking. Pros: inexpensive, great quality Cons: parking more

You ;can't make a better Burger 5/10/2005

I've reviewed the other burger places and they just don't compare, unles you require fancy ambience. Bullshead do not have it, it has that old American feel. Comfortable! more

Best hamburger in SF-plus great buffalo burgers 5/5/2005

In All my years of searching for the best hamburger, this modest restaurant tucked away in a side street next to the West Portal area and tunnel is by far the very best, and most friendly hang outs. Don't let the fancy paces fool you, this is the best! Great Lunch Place, and prices are right! Pros: Good Food, friendly service, fast service Cons: small, old fashioned setting, Parking more

Delicious Burgers!!!!! 4/21/2005

If you are into burgers, this is the place. This hole in the wall burger joint serves one of the freshest, juiciest, burgers in the Bay Area. They also display their burgers so you know exactly what you're getting. I had a 1/2 lb burger with swiss cheese, bbq sauce, avacado, mushrooms, and onion rings. The fries that comes with it is also great. Hope you have a big mouth because these burgers are huge. Prices aren't bad too, only $7-$9 for burger and fries for a big eater. If you love burgers, this place is a must!!! Pros: Burgers, Fries, Quality of Meat Cons: Parking more

Fantastic ""hole in a wall"" 8/25/2004

Not the best decorated place around, but boy, do they serve some mean burgers! I ordered a sauteed mushroom and onion burger with swiss cheese, cooked medium-rare, and I devoured that baby! Unlike some tourist trap that snared me into forking over extra for fries, this place includes them with your burger. If you're worried about the quality of the beef, look no further than the meatcase that greets you as you enter. Talk about fresh. Only qualms I have are somewhat limted parking and they don't have milkshakes. Pros: Best burgers in SF, Food comes fast more

Holy Cow 7/8/2004

Honestly, I must say that I have spent the 23 years I have lived in California, searching for the best burger. I have lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego, and have ventured through every crack, crevase, steak house, burger stand, and gas stop, and the best burger BY FAR is at Bullshead Restaraunt (yes, it even beats Harris Ranch)!!! Pros: Burgers, Steaks, Beer more

BEST KEPT SECRET! 5/12/2004

Boy oh boy! The food here is awesome! Good burgers, steaks, and i love the salad bar buffet. The prices are reasonable. If you think about it, a meal at any fast food place is about $5-6 now. For about a dollar more, you get a freshly made, top-quality burger and thick fresh cut fries or homemade potato salad or coleslaw. They have veggieburgers, fishburgers, turkeyburgers, and even buffalo burgers! Try this place once, and most likely, you'll go back for more! more

**BEST BURGERS EVER** 11/4/2003

This is the place that I think of when I'm craving a badass burger. When I lived in SF we went there more than once a week, really had an addiction. What it lacks in ambience it makes up for in taste! The meat is 100% reall and fresh and you can pick your own cut if you wish from the display. The guy who cooks (or used to) is really nice and generous with the fries. Service is as good as it needs to be. Maybe not the place to take your first date, but definitley worth the trip to West Portal. Pros: Taste, Freshness, Big Servings Cons: Ambience, Difficult to park, Hours of operation more

Better than Joe's! 9/13/2003

While being a bit more out of the way, I would rather go here than Joe's Cable Car. For one thing, the fries are INCLUDED. Try the sauteed garlic burger... must be a whole head of garlic on the burger! Good salad bar. Pros: Value, Food! Cons: Parking more
