Best

These folks are good! Especially Tommy Bullock, the owner/manager. I recently made a special order by phone from the Richmond area. First, my call was personally returned withi...

Worst

The Q is average at best. The tea is quite good. Slaw is fair. Pups are good when not overcooked. The real reason to eat here is not the Q, but the other things on the menu. ...

Best BBQ further east. 1/9/2003

Bullock's isn't bad-bad but to rate BBQ joints and not head into eastern NC is like avoiding the professional ranks. Wilbur's in Goldsboro, Bill's in Wilson, Parker's in Greenville, King's in Kinston, or Pete's in Ayden are all better than any BBQ restaurant in the Raleigh-Durham area. The parking lot at Wilbur's in Goldsboro is packed every Frday evening with people driving from Raleigh-Durham to the coast. That should tell you something. more

Sadly Disappointed 1/8/2003

Ever since I moved to the Raleigh area I had been told that I needed to go to Bullocks because they had the best barbecue in NC. I redently started working not far from them so I gave it a try. I was definitely disappointed. Not much flavor, texture was not good, cole slaw left much to be desired. I guess I was spoiled living in Wilmington adn having Jackson's Big Oak Barbecue right around the corner from me. Now that is the best barbecue in North Carlina. more

1000 Miles for Bullock's 1/8/2003

When I go to Durham, NC I NEVER leave without bringing some Bullock's BBQ back with me! They are the BEST! All these Texans don't know BBQ until I bring them Bullocks. I prefer the sliced, but the chopped is just as good - don't forget those hush puppies! Talking about it makes me want to go back home and get some! Tommy Bullock is the BEST! more

Hog Heaven 10/26/2002

I was introduced to Bullock's Barbecue while in college in the late 50's. This is the BBQ against which all others are measured. It is so good that the next best one is number 4. Pigs literally die to be served at Bullocks. If I am within 200 miles of Durham, I go to Bullocks. Pros: Always a line, Inexpensive, FOOD Cons: Only one Bullocks more

Heaven in Durham??? 10/26/2002

Bulloks is the best BBQ in Durham. It has been for many years. But don't forget their fried chicken too. BBQ and fried chicken at bullocks makes you think for a split second you are in heaven ...not Durham. Cons: very busy more

good for hanging out 8/8/2002

i'm not much of a barbeque expert, but i liked the food here. it is not so much to die for as addictive. i always leave feeling stuffed to the gills. the service is inconsistent but never anger inspiring. great for a family outing, hanging out with people out of town or work buddies when you don't want to spend a ton of money and eat well in a relaxed atmosphere. don't even try getting in on a sunday though - you will be waiting at least an hour. Pros: lots of food, bargain, relaxed atmosphere Cons: inconsistent service, can be too crowded more

Very good 8/7/2002

  • Bullock's BBQ - Bullock's BBQ has been a family owned and operated fixture in Durham, NC since 1952. Glen Bullock started offering his delicious BBQ in the 1940's, cooking pigs on the weekends for friends and neighbors. Eventually people wanted more so they had to grow. Glen's wife and son, Tommy helped run and build the business through the years, and Tommy has been owner with he and his family operating the restaurant since 1965. The business has changed locations as it has grown (it is the longest continuous running restaurant in Durham ) and has been in it's current location since 1970.We are proud to have served many celebrities over the years, as displayed on our "wall of fame" when you enter the dining room. We also cater for major area sports teams and TV crews when they are in town for the big game. Don't worry, we serve "normal" folks too, so come visit us or call us for your catering needs today!. • In Short
There's a line out the door, always. The interior is more like Shoney's than an authentic barbeque joint. The patrons are local hipsters, old-school beehivers and...
