Go for the beer 5/21/2012

This place has a decent number of beers on tap, and good lunch specials. The location is more what's neat than the food necessarily. It's quite a unique place because it's attached to a parking garage in a tiny corner, but is also why I think it's a cool place. I believe it is still cash only though, but there's an ATM right outside. more

Beer Lovers delight 12/22/2009

I go here for the beer,if you're a beer drinker you might want to find another bar, but if your a beer lover welcome home! Pros: Beers, good bartenders Cons: dirty dive, but who cares? more

better have lots of cash, barfly 7/27/2009

when i feel like a bigshot and wanna reward myself, i try one of each and swim home Pros: good beer choices, crappy food Cons: expensive more

Decent Bar 5/9/2009

I went here on the strength of its reputation as a good dive bar. The bartender was friendly, and pretty quick with service. The burger I had was cooked perfectly. The reason I gave three stars...is that while it was a pleasant overall experience...it wasn't what the hype of the other reviews would have you think. It's not outrageously priced...but too expensive to be considered a dive. Food's good...beer selection is good, service is good......but I just didn't see what was memorable about the place. Pros: Beer Selection Cons: too pricey to be considered a true ""dive"" more

Great food, specials, and a Ridiculous Beer Selection! 12/31/2008

This is a tiny, dark, wonderful pub... great for the beer snob. Happy hours offer buck burgers - and they're delicious! Pros: great food, expansive beer selection, food specials Cons: limited seating, cash only more

Good Beer, Good Atmosphere 12/4/2008

Bukowski's is a little hole in the wall with an exhaustive selection of beers that may or may not be in stock when you order. The atmosphere is always lively and the ""Dead Authors Club"" neon sign in the window, when paired with its red facade, almost make it worth the trip alone. Pros: Amazing beer list Cons: Small, often crowded. Almost too many beers to choose from. more

Good last call Bar 10/26/2008

They serve very late. The service is fast. Not a place to bring people your trying to impress, but a cool dive bar with no frills. Much better than most of the Boylston St. bars with drunken 21 year old kids. I would return here. Pros: Serve late and fast service Cons: smells like a gerbil cage more

Beer lovers only need apply 9/2/2008

Freakin fantastic selection of beer! Plus the beer menu gives a good education on the difference between all of the categories of beer. The food is quite good for the munchies, but don't expect 5-star food. I had a pretty darn good turkey burger. Pros: BEER! decent food for munchies, down-to-earth crowd Cons: somewhat small place, the off-hours staff more

Iconic Boston Bar 5/15/2008

If you haven't been here, what are you waiting for? The hot dogs, the fries.. everything is great. Only place I know you can get Black Label in a can. Love it. I have had many a great afternoon, evening, late night here. Great atmosphere. Be ready to show your ID to a surly door man, but they have to keep the peace. This place isn't all light and roses, it's dark, and a little dirty, but delicious beer selection... this place is classic, and iconic Boston. Pros: everything is awesome here Cons: gets crowded more

worst bar in Boston 12/13/2007

overpriced beer, inedible food, terrible music, rude/moronic batenders - this place is not a dive bar, it's a tourist trap... more

Bukowski's: It's got what Beer Lovers crave... 4/25/2007

Speaking as an out of towner (from Eastern Pennsylvania, actually...) I'll not hesitate in saying that whenever I come to the city of Boston, I consider Bukowski's Tavern to be ""my Local Dive."" Pros: Beer selection, unique atmosphere Cons: gets crowded, hard to gather with a large number of people more

Excrutiating Experience 1/27/2007

I've never felt less welcome at a bar. True they have an excellent beer selection and you can get a burger for a $1 (of course you will make up the difference in what you pay for your beer), but the bartenders were so rude and the music was painfully loud. There was the obscene wannabe hipster attitude and my group of about 30 people were being shot dirty looks (from the staff). Instead of appreciating the business, they were doing their best to get us out of there and it worked. I will not be going back. more

My new favorite bar 8/10/2006

While this is probably one of the smallest bar in the area they know how to make the most out of a small spot. 120 beers to choose from and that doesn't even include the constantly changing tap menu. Can't choose what you want, let one of the amazing bartenders spin the wheel of indecision for you, the only rule is you must drink what it lands on. Sounds easy but with so many beers you are eventually going to get something you really don't want to finish. Pros: Amazing bartenders, amazing beer selection more

Henry Chinaski Thumbs Up 7/31/2006

Absolutely one of the best pubs in Boston. If you miss it, you must be too drunk to see their sign. OK, look, if you actually would like to get the best local beer at its freshest point, check out Bukowskis. If you don't know who Henry Chinaski is and have never read ""Post Office"", try another bar. Appleby's is right around the corner... Pros: Knowledgeable wait staff, good beer selection Cons: Too many posers? more

A Place for Beer and Beer Alone 9/8/2005

This spot is a true dive, but an excellent place for the true beer connoisseur to sample some of Bostons best beer choices at the hands of some skilled bartenders. Unless youve traveled extensively in former Soviet-bloc countries, Id avoid the food. In fact, the burgers have the same squashy, flavorless bread and sub-standard tasting meat as I found on my travels. But the point is not to eat the food or to soak in the atmosphere: the point is to drink the best beers in the world. So, ignore the rickety chairs and dubiously clean tables obviously dredged up from some aging church basement, sit at the bar and even give the Wheel of Beer a whirl. Pay no attention to the silly, pretentious literary theme. This is a dive and nothing more, but it is what separates the true beer lovers from the trendy bar crowd. Pros: beer choice, smart bartenders Cons: food, cleanliness, atmosphere more

Excellent beer, but don't eat the food!! 9/1/2005

If you're just looking for a place to get great beer, this is the place to go. However, eat before you go because the food is perhaps the worst in Boston. The burgers are thoroughly disgusting and let's just say they do not use the highest quality meats. The fried are flavorless but passable in a pinch and the sandwiches are always soggy and oddly seasoned. I brave this place despite the terrible service and loathsome food because, quite frankly, there is no place like it for beer. The bartenders are some of the best in the city and they truly know how to pour. Their knowledge of beer is peerless!!!! Just eat first, ignore the silly music students and enjoy the best selection of beer in Eastern Mass!! Pros: beer, bartenders Cons: food, students, music more

Yummy Burgers 2/25/2004

The burgers here are sooooo good. They even have burgers of the veggie variety. They are perfect and tasy ans the fries are perfectly salty and tender. Service tends to be slow at lunch, but it's a great value. Pros: Burgers, Fries, Price Cons: , Slow, Seedy more

Well... it's cheap... 12/3/2003

Cheap is the operative word here. The food is definately sub-standard (avoid any meat product at all costs), but the beer selection is outstanding. The bartender is an expert at pouring beer. That beinbg said, the place is none-too-clean, the music way too loud and the atmosphere lacking. The pretentious ""dead author"" motif is dated and overly precious and there is never enough seating. Pros: cheap, good beer selection Cons: FOOD!, atmosphere, noise level more

RUDE! 7/16/2003

I went to this hell hole one evening with my husband and friend only to be insulted by the off duty bartender(who told me to vacate the seat I had be in for 30 minutes when she returned from her cigarette outside and then she really got rude) and then kicked out by the on duty bartender when I got offended! The pathetic individual who works there needs to remove the enormous pole from her butt. I hate that place... more
