Best

We have lived by Buddha's Belly for three years and had never been in--primarily because I was concerned that my husband, who has a pepper allergy, couldn't survive a place sure t...

Worst

Yikes. I ordered tuna tacos and fried rice, easy. The tacos were not at all appetizing and the tuna was very near going bad, yuck. Threw that out after 2 bites, not good enough fo...

excellent service and good food 3/4/2006

My wife and I went to Buddha's Belly for lunch on a Saturday. We are vegetarians and, luckily, the waiter picked up on that and made sure that my wife's food was not made with chicken broth. It normally would have been, but this is not mentioned on the menu. The food was very good and brought promptly and I highly recommend trying their special herbal tonics. While we were there, a baby shower was being held in the event room, but it was not disruptive and you only heard them when you went to the bathroom. The layout of the restaurant was thought out well. Pros: service, food quality, ambiance Cons: on busy street, slightly overpriced more

great place for group dining 2/4/2006

i was at buddha's belly this weekend for a birthday party and had a great time. the staff was extremely nice, the service was wonderful, and the food was delicious and well-priced. will definately be going back. Pros: inexpensive, good food, service more

Good Food 1/15/2006

As a vegetarian I enjoy finding a good veg. restaurant. The fried veggie rolls with a rice wrapper, are quite good! Cons: On the noisy side more

Great Neighborhood Place! 7/14/2005

I love eating at Buddha's Belly, and I come here all the time - I've never written a review for this place before, because I didn't want it to get any more crowded! They have great Pan-Asian food at a fantastic value. Their cooking is a lot ""cleaner"" somhow than most other Asian restaurants I have tried. The staff is really great and you can watch the cooks make your food right in the open kitchen. The friendly owners are there all the time and you can tell they really care. Pros: great flavors, friendly, reasonable more

Just okay. 7/12/2005

The decor was nice and the service was great (though it IS quite noisy). But the food was disappointing. The teriyaki salmon I ordered was overcooked, and the pad thai was bland. There are so many tastier places for asian food in this city - this place is nice if you like the trendy location and the people-watching, but the food is certainly not the main attraction. Pros: Affordable, Nice decor, Fast service Cons: Bland food, Loud more

Sumptuous, Savory and Superb! 5/12/2005

Bhudda's Belly is no doubt full, at least if he eats here. Service is unparalleled, with a wait staff that is knowledgeable and extremely friendly, without being overbearing. Entrees are truly delectable and delicious, prepared with an Asian fusion flare. Food is served punctually but arranged with care and creativity. The Ahi Tuna Salad is amazing and the food in general is very light. Cool outside seating is available, often occupied by a chill crowd. Please do not get discouraged by the wait-time. more

best pan asian food west of the hudson river! 5/11/2005

I live in New York City and have eaten at every Nobu on the planet. The Blackened Cod @ Buddha's Belly is BETTER! and at a fraction of the price! Congrats guys. You have a winner and your secret is out! Pros: food, ambience, karma more

Funny Name, Serious Food 5/8/2005

Don't be fooled by the cute name, Buddha's Belly has serious food! This little gem of a restaurant has some of the best Pan-Asian food in LA at some of the most reasonable prices. I love the servers here - they're all so nice, cute, and knowledgable. My favorite dish is the Tom Yom Koon Thai Ramen. Dine early or late if you don't want to wait for a table, because they don't take reservations for parties smaller than six, but you can call ahead and put your name on the guest list on the way over. Pros: great food & variety, amazing service, owners care Cons: no reservations more

Delicious Food, Great Value 1/13/2005

Not only is the food outstanding, but the prices are great, the waiters are always friendly and the atmosphere is fun and energetic. A great place for a group meal or a first date - the best Pan Asian restaurant in LA! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Value more

A Strong Addition to LA 1/5/2005

With the incredulous amount of sushi places opening everywhere, it's nice to see someone try to do something with Chinese. And Buddha's suceeds. Served in tapas fashion, the plates are big enough to satisfy someone as an entree. The ginger beef fried rice was excellent and the nut crusted chicken is unbelievable. And to top it off, the staff is friendly and serves food with a smile (where else does that happen in LA?). Pros: Good Food, Affordable, Good Portions more

Solid food at an affordable price 12/21/2004

Unlike many places in LA which claim to be affordable but are not, Buddha's Belly is truly affordable - most dishes are around $10. As for reccomendations as the servers are very knowledgeable about the better dishes on teh menu. The Thai ramen and the spicy peanut noodles were yummy, but the first time that I went to this place, I was disappointed. The herbal elixirs and lychee soju fusion were very good. Overall, great for a casual meal without any attitude. more

Awesome food, great ambience! 10/16/2004

You better get reservations in advance because this is one busy restaurant, and rightfully so. Their food is excellent, their service is very accommodating, and the price is not bad at all. The restaurant was packed, so waited about 30 minutes. That was the only bad part. You can eat inside or outside. The patio outside has heated lamps and nice bamboo-inspired decor, and you can either have drinks and hang out or sit down and eat. Highly recommend the mojito they make with Korean soju! Also, if you like something non-alcoholic and light, their lychee cooler is awesome. All their appetizers and main courses were great, but my personal favorites were the steak dish, the lettuce chicken wraps, and the yabisoba noodles. Buddha's Belly gets my vote for best Pan-Asian restaurant in LA, but I'm fairly new to LA so I haven't visited all the competitors. Pros: Ambience, Food, Mixed drinks/mojito more

Rub my Belly!! 9/30/2004

From the Spicy Ahi Tuna Tartare, to the Asian BBQ Steak (along with copious amounts of Zinfandel) we had a bonafide blast! We had a drink with Matee at the bar while waiting for our party. Everyone from the hostess to our waitress (Shannon?) was kind, and attentive, if not often times funny. I was surprised by a delicious chocolate mousse as a b-day dessert. We went around 7ish, it filled up around 8pm on a Thur. Pros: great food, service is !!! Cons: , dorky wine glasses more

Ginger Soju to die for 7/27/2004

Love Buddha's Belly, its a great casual place to take friends for a dinner and tasty drinks! I highly recommend the Ginger Soju and seared ahi tuna salad. Waiters have always been very nice and I would definitely go back there again, and again!!! Call ahead for dinner, sometimes packed. Pros: Inexpensive, Great decor, Tasty meals more

good and bad 6/11/2004

a friend and i decided to try out buddha's belly on sunday afternoon. we ordered the special which was a cold green tea noodle salad (yummy!) and an order of Shao Bing (to die for!) and teriyaki salmon. it's a wonderful combination of pan-asian and california. the service started out excellent. but then he started to slowly neglect us. the place slowed down and so did our waiter. it was our first time there so i am not going to hold that against us going again. but if it happens again, you have been warned. go try it. Pros: food, hip atmosphere more

Good Karma! 5/13/2004

This new restaurant is just what the city ordered! Fresh ingredients, delicious entrees, great atmosphere. Pros: Great pricing, Elaborate menu, Nice vibe more

Fun place! 5/11/2004

Buddha's Belly is fun and casual, with great food--don't miss the miso cod dish...to die for! more
