Editorial review from Citysearch 4/2/2013

WOW I just read Michelle W's comments and the same thing happened to me. I was rushed to sign the contract to renovate my master bath , they did the demo and then everything slowed down. His website says they have ""dedicated uniformed work crews""-I haven't seen anyone in a uniform-that is because they are all subs. I asked the tile guy and the painters and they both said they are subcontractors, they work for Vic when work is slow. They left trash in my yard for over a week, one of the workers used the toilet when it was disconnected and the whole bathroom smelled. Vic Hegman does not do what he says he will do, he is very unprofessional. Project was supposed to take 2 to 3 weeks I am now going on my 5th week. I have filed a complaint with the BBB. There are a lot of good contractors out there but Buccaneer and Vic Hegman are not among them. more

Very Dishonest and Deceiving 5/6/2012

I would not recommend this contractor to anyone. Although the initial planning meetings seemed to go very well, in the end, Vic made many promises that he did not keep. My bathroom remodel went 3.5 weeks over the time promised. Vic told us he did not use sub contractors. That was a lie. I had to make several calls myself to the electrician, tile crew, carpenter, plumber and painters to find out why they were not at my home working when Vic said they would be here. I was told several times that Vic had not even contacted them. 1.5 weeks went by with my bathroom completely torn up and unusable. No one showed up to start my project when Vic said they would. After starting to lay the tile, the tile guys could not finish their job because the plumber needed to come back and complete his work. Vic forgot to call the plumber and then forgot to call the tile crew to come back! So, the tile crew just took a week off. I ended up calling the plumber and the tile guys myself to get them back to work on our project. Each subcontractor wanted me to pay them directly for their materials, which initially I did. Halfway through the project, I felt like I was being overcharged for materials and I wanted an itemized list of labor and material costs from Buccaneer. Vic would not give me one. He told me Buccaneer does not work that way. I know I was being double charged for materials and told Vic so. He promised me that after the project was finished, his son would run all the numbers I would receive any money back that they owed me. Guess what? I never got my money back. Many of the subcontractors he sent to my home did not even know Vic. Several guys told me this was their first time ever working for Buccaneer. And unfortunately, their work had to be redone not once, but twice. The tile crew sealed the travertine without cleaning it first. Vic's clean-up crew never came back to clean up and haul off a full trailer load of trash even though I called twice and spoke personally with Vic and he said he would send them out ""that day."" After 8 weeks, I was so disgusted with his broken promises, I ended up grouting a closet that the tile crew forgot to do, caulking around the tile in my shower and around the bathroom, putting on all the drawer knobs and handles, doing all the paint and stain touch-ups myself and my husband and I had to pay extra to have all the trash they left hauled off. I will not ever use or recommend this company to anyone. Too many broken promises and I believe I was intentionally overcharged. more

AWEFUL builder!!! 3/5/2012

Steer clear of these yahoos! They have no idea what they are doing. Very dishonest. Very rude. Pathetic work quality. Nothing was completed correctly. If you don't want to end up in court, go with any other builder. I laugh when I see positive reviews...clearly written by the owner himself. I now know nobody that has used this group and is happy. Wish I knew before getting involved with this sorry excuse for a business. more

Do not use 2/3/2012

Do not trust. Used several times, not bad at first. Last time they did a very poor job and owner was very rude on the phone. Did not do what was agreeded on in the contract. Very poor quality work when remodeling my kitchen. I should have gone somewhere else. more

Don' t count on them 11/8/2011

Buccaneer installed an attic door in my home which came with a 2 year warranty in October of 2010. The attic door isn't closing all the way. I called over a month ago and explained the problem to the receptionist. She said she would have someone call me and no one has called. I then called again last week and again this week and still no return call. more

Thank You Buccaneer Construction 7/29/2010

I'm happy to share how pleased I am with the excellent quality of workmanship and service I received from Buccaneer Construction. They exceeded my expectations in every aspect of the job. I had my roof replaced as a result of damage caused by hurricane Ike. My experience with ""Storm Chaser"" contractors and Texas Windstorm adjusters was horrible! Needless to say, I was very apprehensive about having this work done. Buccaneer, and their entire staff were very helpful, informative and best of all not trying to sell me something. They simply wanted to do the best job they possibly could on my roof. I was contacted daily about the status of the job and always got a quick response when I called them. Best of all they took care of minor repairs and replacements without me even asking...That's the kind of service you don't see much of these days!! I will call on Buccaneer without reservation for my future home repair and improvement needs. Thanks Vic, and thanks to all your dedicated staff who made my home repair experience excellent! more

great experience w/ Buccanneer 6/2/2010

Buccaneer recently did major work to our home. New kitchen, interior painting, new hardwoods and a complete exterior renovation including painting and a new fence. It is by far the highest quality work I've ever had done by any contractor. The other reviews on here are kind of odd....how can you rate a company that you haven't done business with? Maybe the guy you met with thought you would be a pain in the a$$ and not a good fit. Anyway, our experience through the entire process was top notch. The company was very responsive through every phase of the project. Very important to note: I did a ton of research on these guys before I hired them, and they are a real construction company with numerous industry recognitions and BBB awards. They are not just some guy with a magnetic sign on the side of his truck. The owner was very confident, and I just took that as the guy knew what he was doing...which he did. I highly recommend Buccaneer. Pros: True professionals, absolute best quality and craftsmanship Cons: they're almost too detailed...if that's pssible more

Want to waste your time? 10/12/2009

The owner came by and spent a lot of time listening to me and he made suggestions. He DOES have a lot to say about himself - all of it good.\r \r When we finished, I commented that he had not taken a note. He tapped his head and said he would remember all we had discussed, ""besides,"" he said, I tape everthing.""\r \r That is when he opened his metal ""clipboard"" and showed me a running recorder. I had not said anything untrue or dishonest, but it was still not a good feeling to be taped without my knowing it.\r \r He smiled, waved and drove off. We never heard from him again and have no idea why. That's okay, I'm not calling him to find out why. Pros: Shows up on time for 1st appointment Cons: You might never see him again! more

Victor only wastes your time with promises and no action 5/4/2008

I contacted Buccaneer for a kitchen and possibly two bath remodels. He made all kinds of suggestions that I should do for my remodel but when you don't want what he wants the whole process comes to a dead halt. He is prompt on the bid and initial contract but after that he becomes a ghost. Doesn't return phone calls, any questions you have from the inital estimate you can never get any answers. His staff appologizes for him and makes excuses on top of the ones he will give you. Once your job becomes too small you are just another insignificant person. He wasted my time shopping for a new sink, entry door and and other appliances. Hope he pays my invoice for my time wasted due to his lack of concern. STAY AWAY FROM THIS EGOTIST!!! He'll just brag about what all he can do and that he has never been sued. Guess not if you don't do the work,,,,,,,,, more

Avoid this company! 10/29/2007

Avoid at all costs! They do not return phone calls. I wanted to reside my house ($20,000.00+) After meeting with Vic, who was an hour late, he said he would have a crew come out and measure the following Monday--It's two weeks later and I have not seen nor heard from anyone. I have called repeatedly to see what the deal is and have received no return phone call. Cons: too many to mention more

Clients Concerns not Important 6/27/2007

Don't be fooled by the Owner's promptness to your initial appointment. The owner was very self-boasting, self-promoting and rushed. He got the bid out very quickly along with two extensive contracts of items that are important to his company. It was only a $3400 job. ""small scale"" He promised to start job within 14 to 18 days. When I got the contract I noticed that the start and finish date were not in place. I called and asked for those dates to be included, generously giving him at least 4 weeks to play with. The owner gave me "" his word"" that it would be finished and told me that if there were any delays that he would keep me informed. He said, ""just sign it and I will fill it in later"" I noticed the beginnings of excuses when I talked to him on the phone. Death, illness, rain, injury, other people's jobs that may be more important than mine. After waiting for a day to get the date, the receptionist called to let me know that they ""just could not give me a date"" After some discussion she agreed to give me a completion date 5 months from the original date. I declined to sign the contract. I believe the owner was completley focused on getting me to sign the contract so that he could drag me on all the while holding a possible Mechanic's Lien over me. Contracts are two party instruments and when one party will not budge you should wonder why. I am glad that I stuck to my guns. I think it would have turned out bad. I would rather wait than get into a bad relationship with a selfish company. Pros: On time to initial bidding appointment, quick to drop off bid Cons: Starting making excuses right off and they only got worse. Only worried about getting you to sign their contract. more
