Editorial review from Citysearch 8/25/2012

I like their food, but their menu is just a tad frustrating. If I want to order a single item, not family style, I shouldn't have to have a long explanation - just give me the option easily available and obvious on the menu. Why is that so difficult? The food has always been good, with the exception of their tiramasu - which was just horrid! Service has always been good, restaurant always clean, but try to avoid Fri & Sat nights, cause they cram way too many people too close together and the volume is too loud to enjoy a nice meal. more

Funny place to eat with friends 8/29/2008

While the food was okay, the best part of our group lunch was the service and all of the hilarious art and memorabilia! more

Good Italian. 3/24/2008

We went to the Buca's near the Robinson Mall and were seated very promptly. Our waitress was very efficient despite having to serve a huge family as well as us. A pleasant surprise is that they now have Buca Mio -which are single serving portions of favorite items. My husband's pasta serving was an adequate size to share but my chicken (mio serving) had only one chicken breast which was just enough for one. We liked the decor but it was a bit on the noisy side. We enjoyed the dessert and loved the frozen peach bellini. more

Reservations? Dont bother! 3/2/2008

My friend and I went on a sunday evening. I called @ 4 to make a reservation for 5. When we got there 5 minutes early there were tons of people waiting. We said we had a reservation and the very rude hostess told me it would be a couple of minutes. Ok. Then after waiting a half an hour and after others were seated before us (larger parties) we were seated. We were on the third floor and there were 5 open tables! The food was ok but you have to spend a fortune to get a full meal. I ordered Lemon chicken and I got 2 half chicken breasts and a little sauce for $14.99!!!! No pasta or anything. Be careful when you go and I suggest using coupons. I wont be back. Nothing to draw me back at all. P.S. Bathrooms were atrocious!!!!!!!! Pros: none really Cons: Long Wait( even with reservations) a la carte menu?, rude hostess more

OK Food 10/23/2007

The restaurant food was 'OK'. The server was very nice, and was appreciative of our guests. I guess I can't say anything wrong about the place, but I can't rave about it either. Pros: Nothing was really bad about it! Cons: No Comment. more

Good food, bad hostess 10/16/2007

Our group made reservations for a weekend night and arrived on time to find the vestibule full of people. We didn't worry since we had a reservation. However, after waiting for nearly an hour, we were finally seated. At no point did the hostess ever inform us as to the status of our table and forced us to take turns fighting through the crowd to go and ask her. People is groups as large as ours were seated before us and they had reservations that were after ours. No explanation was offered for this. When we were finally seated, our waiter treated us kindly and the food was delicious. At the end of the meal, the hostess came to our table to apologize and to also inform us that she was not only the hostess, but an assistant manager as well! While we were comped for a bottle of wine and some breadsticks, I don't think a free meal could even entice me to visit this establishment again. more

excellent chicken marsala 11/17/2006

this isa great restaurant with the quality and the quantity of the food. service was as good as could have been expected on a busy saturday night. more

Good food, not so good ettiquette 7/28/2006

Gotta say the food at Buca is real good. I've been there with my wife and friends a few times and have always enjoyed the food. Taste aside, the place is a bit cramped, especially with bigger groups, and even though they have changed the menu to accomodate couples (they didn't use to have options for just two people..mostly a group place in the recent past) you are feel a bit limited in what you can get unless the entire party you're with likes the same things. Pros: Definately great food! Cons: Limited menu for couplesyou will get rushed out during busy times by someone who comes over to explain that "they need the table for another party"...this unfortunately has happened on our last two visits. more

Not good for single diners 7/14/2006

Ok, almost everything on the menu is a 2-person portion, so single diners won't feel very welcome here. So my waitress steered me from the pasta I really wanted and I had a pizza instead. She had them make me a HALF salad too, though it wasn't on the menu. One small pizza one glass of house red wine, one half salad, $35.50 including 15% tip. The wine was wonderful, the salad was very good, the pizza was good but not spectacular. Unfortunately they're not open for lunch as some Bucca di Beppo's are, that would likely solve both the price and portion size problem. Pros: great wine, very good salads Cons: no single-person sized entrees or appetizers more

Shameful eatery. 8/4/2004

Do you even wonder why they have to put so much junk everywhere? Ambiance? Hardly. Its to distract you from the fact that their food is so horrible and wildly overpriced. Italian? Just barely. more

price increase unnecessary 7/7/2004

We went to Buca tonight for the first time in over a year only to find what had previously been overpriced, but fun food had turned into massively overpriced and not so much fun. They used to run a menu for two, but not anymore. So the food is about the same as before in terms of quality, but the increase in price is definitely not worth it. We had chicken parm, some spaghetti, some garlic bread and two glasses of house wine for almost 45. Oh, might I add that the chicken parm was basically two large chicken breasts. Definitely totally over priced for food that I could make myself. For the cost we could have gone many other places in Pittsburgh. more

Mrs. 2/16/2004

Great fun, but if you're there to truly converse...forget about it. Everyone is yelling and screaming, (the servers and customers) to the point that by the end of the meal you are totally unnerved!!! Pros: good food, nice service, love decor Cons: , loud, loud, loud, long wait more

Excellent 5/19/2003

Great Fun! 5/1/2003

We went to this restaurant with a party of 5 and a 2 year old. It was a blast! The food was great, and the atmosphere even better. We stayed out well past my 2 year old's bed time, but the place was so fun, between the pictures and the music, that she lasted the whole meal without a meltdown! This never happens! What a fun place! I will DEFINITELY be going back there. My husband and I are looking foward to trying the dinner for 2! Pros: Great food!, Really fun atmosphere, Friendly Staff Cons: Pay to park@ stat. sq more

munga munga...good eats!!!! 1/29/2003

Stay a while and look at the walls 9/2/2002

Bucca di Beppo is hands-down the best Italian restaraunt I've ever eaten in. I eat a lot of Italian too. When you go in, the walls are covered with thousands of hilarious photos. The food is great, but I wouldn't recommend dining alone, the food comes in serving sizes for the whole family. While your waiting for your massive meal, enjoy fine wine and take a walk. Look at the walls, don't miss the photos and paintings that cover all three floors. Whatever you do, visit the Pope Room. This third story room is absolutely hilarious. Thousands of pictures and paintings of the Pope, and the room would not be complete without a revolving bust of him on the table. Bucca di Beppo was amazing, and I would recommend it for anyone visiting Pittsburgh. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Amazing Food, Hilarious Photos Cons: Poor Parking, A Little Expensive, Crowded more

Funky Italian resto 8/29/2002

Food is good, servings are large... nice when you have a lot of guests! the interior design is eclectic in a nice way. Pros: large servings, good food quality, friendly servers Cons: long waiting lines more
