I've always liked this theatre- it is not modern or flashy- just a cute old fashioned theatre with good movies. If you're looking for a quiet place to have some great popcorn and see a movie, this is it. If you're looking for flashy - there are dozens of choices in NY. more

Brooklyn Heights Cinema was once my favorite theater in Brooklyn. They had a great selection of movies, nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and tasty popcorn. Unfortunately, all that has changed and now my friends and I refuse to go there. The last time we were there (a few months ago) there was a nasty blonde girl working at the box office who was the rudest person I have ever met. Firstly, she was completely unwelcoming and she actually audibly sighed when she had to look away from what was apparently very important business on her computer to actually do her job of selling us tickets. She was obnoxious, ill-informed and directed us to the wrong theater, out of only two! It completely soured our movie going experience. Such bad vibes in what was once such a nice theater. We refuse to step foot in that theater while she continues to work there. Also, the popcorn was so salty it was inedible. Fire that horrible idiot and this loyal customer will gladly return. more

Ive been twice in the past 2 weeks, to see Mr. Fox and An Education=both cool movie selections. best yet, there is a hot French girl who knows about cinema, and an overall really helpful staff. I've been going to this cinema since I was little and am so happy to see it still around. The movies played here are consistently great for prices still better than in Manhattan. Great restaurants and bars sit nearby. The theatre audience here stays quiet and respectful, unlike some of the big theatres. This magical theater should be put on the endangered species list. Everything about this place is completely endearing, right from the ""Admit One"" stubs to the real popcorn served with real butter and the free pixie sticks at the concession stand. The theater has only two screens but management seems to make very good use of the limited space with a tasteful selection of titles. You are unlikely to see the big summer blockbusters here but this is a perfect spot for an indy film or a romantic flick. The best thing is there is SO MUCH to do in the neighborhood before/after the movie you could make a full day out of it. There are several great restaurants on Henry street and the bar next door to the theater serves excellent finger food and a wide variety of beer on tap. The Fulton landing with it's breathtaking views of the Brooklyn bridge and the skyline of downtown Manhattan and the Brooklyn Ice cream Factory are just a short walk away. This theatre is such a treasure...the choice of films is a mix of TRUE art house and good indie and important documentary...the selections change every two weeks so there is always something to see...the screens are pretty large,sound and projection are first rate... the concession is great: fresh popcorn, cappuccino, and upscale candy selections...the staff is knowledgable. intelligent and genuinely excited to talk about the films!!! vintage posters(including a giant Italian Barbarella poster!) a funky decoupaged concession and a **!!#$ blue lady painted on the ceiling...my new favorite theatre in all of ny. It's an old time theater that is always showing good and interesting movies. It's rarely crowded, which, compared to the closer and bigger multiplex, is a blessing. (I like to be the only person talking during a movie.) The popcorn and candy are fine, but sneak in your own drinks. They know their films!!! This is a truly independent theatre showing the same films as lincoln plaza or angelika or sunshine... comfortable seats, big screen and none of the hastle of the bigger theatres...great coffee too. more

It's small but the seats are comfortable, the popcorn is great and there's no pretension about this little cinema in Brooklyn Heights. Usually has a great movie selection, too. However, they have caught up with rest of NYC in their admission price which is actually $10 not $8.50 as this website advertises. Highly recommended. Brooklyn doesn't have a lot of great choices for movie houses outside of BAM, which doesn't turn over their movies fast enough. Cobble Hill is uncomfortable and the popcorn is crap.
