Brooklyn Cares is a fantastic practice! They were able to provide a clear diagnosis and an excellent treatment plan after other vets failed to offer proper treatment for my pup. They were patient, kind and thorough. They also provide excellent regular, routine care. The online pharmacy makes getting pet medication so easy. They make all things vet a all lot better for me and for my dog. more

I wished I had read a few more reviews before taking my cat to this place of scam artists. Dr. Hess was a terrible listener and kept re-asking questions I had already answered multiple times. I took my cat there because she was showing all the signs of a UTI; it was text book symptoms. The vet tech was sweet and friendly and very understanding; she was the highlight of the experience. When Dr. Hess came in she began to retake the vitals that the vet tech had already taken and written down for the vet. She felt my cat's bowels and immediately suggested that I send my cat to x-rays because she wanted to make sure my cat didn't swallow a toy. Really?! I was ticked. I explained why I was there and suggestion after suggestion from her oozed with dollar signs. Finally after repeating myself too many times I demanded antibiotics and reiterated the reason for my visit. She told me she never gives antibiotics but instead pain medication to cats with UTIs. How did this woman ever become a certified vet? So eventually she packaged some antibiotics and a serious pain killer that I later read has opiate properties. She wanted me to give her five doses (once every 12hours); I gave my cat one and hated seeing her drugged up. The vet never took a urine sample which was a surprise. By the end I was out $100 ($40 for the visit, $30 for 5 syringes of pain killer, $30 for 7 pills of Zeniquin) and terribly exhausted. If you can, at all costs, avoid this place. Your wallet will thank you. more

very efficient and proficient 4/14/2011

I took my 17-year old cat in for some recurring UTI problems and other symptoms, and we both had a very positive experience. The office is spacious and clean, the staff was all very helpful and kind, and everyone from the receptionists to the tech to the nurse to the doctor seemed genuinely caring, both towards my cat, and me. The techs were very efficient and proficient, and the vet himself definitely seemed knowledgeable. more

Dr. Donovan was wonderful 4/13/2011

My 15 year old cat was deteriorating (heart murmur, kidney failure, and cancer) and we spent significant time there over the past few months. They were patient and gentle with Sebastian and with me. I felt good there and Sebastian was also comfortable there, not a common experience for a cat at the vets. Dr. Donovan was wonderful and left me several kind and detailed messages about test results and options. Dr. Mann was exceptional and spoke to my cat and to me in a way that showed me he genuinely cared. I did not choose any extreme measures to extend Sebastian's life, I just wanted him to be comfortable until it was time to say goodbye. When that time came, Dr. Mann came to my apartment and helped me let Sebastian go. Each of the vets and the rest of the staff have been nothing but pleasant and kind to me. more

I was a little hesitant to try Brooklyn Cares out after reading the reviews here, but reading their philosophy on the website and the convenient location made me give them a chance. I'm am so glad that I did because my experience was all that I could hope for. They are compassionate and good listeners which make them good diagnosticians. more

The name says it all. 4/11/2011

The name says it all. I have taken my dog there for as long as we have had him and each time we go they provide excellent care. The first time was for dental surgery, the second because he had swallowed a chicken bone. Both times the Dr. Mann and staff were wonderfully caring and knowledgeable, they took care of our dog as if it were their own. The price was always discussed and made clear before any work was done, and they helped us navigate the rocky insurance waters as well. more

Great vibes 3/22/2011

You instantly either get a good vibe or a bad one from an animal clinic, and I got a great one here. If you're wondering about whether to commit to this quality of treatment, go for it. They offered me material about a new program of pet insurance so it's guaranteed that your pet stays healthy - great for conscientious cat ladies like me!, and the doctors have a grounding in holistic medicine so they take a very innovative and balanced approach to treatment (while still being really well-trained in traditional medicine). I'm clearly a fangirl - it's a great addition to the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area and I'm very glad I chose them. more

I felt reassured that my cat was going to be ok, and that's saying a lot seeing as I am a very neurotic pet owner! At the end of the day that peace of mind was invaluable. more

Excellent quality of care 3/10/2011

The quality of care is excellent, the staff are all super friendly and knowledgeable, the atmosphere is soothing (so important when the only thing on my mind was my kitty's health - I felt much calmer than I expected), and the pricing seems appropriate for the thorough but never unnecessary treatment provided. more

Behind The Scenes Review 11/9/2010

This is a behind the scenes profesional review.\r I am a pharmaceutical sales rep. I service over 300 Vet hospitals in NY.\r Here are a few reasons why I would reccomend Dr Mann and his staff to take care of my own animals.\r He educates himself constantly and his staff. He does training with them on products,technology and they are always taking continuing education courses. This is so they can have available new medicine and advanced technology to offer you. Not all hospitals do this. I have seen Vets not want to bring in certain new meds or vaccines because of price or lack of knowledge and old habits and that means when they have the choice to use a product to prevent kidney failure or congestive heart failure and they don't want to hear about that product and what it can do for the animal..... that means your animal will suffer. Trust me when I tell you how many animals I have seen suffer because of laziness, lack of knowledge and bad habits. This staff and Dr Mann and his Vets that more

Their incompetence is exceeded only by their outrageous bill. 9/14/2010

A neighbor recommended this place to bring a young cat I found abandoned in the basement of our building. Since this place accepted Muffins certificates I decided to try them, figuring that would cover the majority of the bill. I got to the office to find an 'estimate' for $273 awaiting me...this was just to have the cat spayed...and they knew ahead of time this was a stray. No vaccinations, and no mention of any of this prior to getting to the office. Nice. Since they had canceled two previous appointments I had made at the last minute due to 'scheduling issues', and the cat was supposed to be going to my mom's the next day, I returned my eyeballs to their sockets and left the cat there. A regretful mistake. Later in the day I was called with the news the cat was (thankfully) doing well but AFTER CUTTING HER OPEN, they learned she was already spayed! WTF? After cutting her open? $273 worth of fees, and you can't even tell before surgery? So I go to pick up the cat, and am g more

Wonderful service 2/28/2010

They are wonderful, fun and friendly people. My good friend and I are deaf but the Dr. Mann is very patience with us and listen what our pets problem? He patience writing down on paper to explain about blood work..xray, etc. Price is reasonable. The place is colorful, calm and comfortable. Cute design of animal on the wall! A doctor who cares (about money) 11/24/2009

I first went in with my two kittens to have shots. There was a series of three shots that they needed. Each doctor's visit was $30 per cat per visit (not covering cost of shots). I could understand paying that if the doctor did anything like check their temperatures and such as they were being introduced to a vaccine to their system; just some basic checking so I know he is not just taking the money. When I complained to the receptionist, she sounded concerned. I thought she was concerned because I was being over charged. Instead, the next time I went in, it appeared the doctor was reading the notes as he looked over my file for the kittens, and seemed a bit annoyed when we went into the examination room. He pulled out a stethoscope and gave perfunctory listen to their hearts. I have spoken to a vet acquaintance who told me that a doctor who truly cares would be doing much more while giving them shots. more

NYC's Best Vet! 10/24/2009

Dr Mann and his team are fun, friendly, and know their stuff! Great place to have in the neighborhood. The office is spacious and clean and they even offer your pets treats :). No question is off limits, they have the answers and won't try to sell you on unnecessary products/procedures. Not expensive, and they genuinely love your pet...Bring your loved one here and get the care you want and they deserve Pros: care, professionalism, fun environment Cons: NONE more

Pet Paradise 7/10/2009

We came to Brooklyn Cares after reading the unfavorable reviews about a local veterinary clinic. We took a pair of yorkies there for a routine exam. The staff was extremely pleasant. The dogs loved the staff as much as the staff loved the dogs. There was no wait time. We had a ten o'clock appointment and arrived early and still had no wait time. They allowed us to be with the dogs during the examination. Every step was explained and the doctor was willing to answer any question we asked. To sum it up Dr. Mann is the man for all your pet care needs. Pros: Warm, friendly and welcoming environment. more

Great place for dogs checkup!! 7/6/2009

This is my first time having a dog/vet. I have read stories about other vets and those seemed horrible to me. Dr Mann is a great vet and that is an understatement!! He is welcoming, has a nice demeanor, and explains all to you in plain english and my girl Taffy loved him too!! His assistant/front desk nurse was just as welcoming and wonderful too!! His office is clean, looks great and just right for my girl. We are glad to have them in Taffy's life!!! Pros: Dogs will never want to leave and neither will you!! Cons: None at all!! more
