Credit Card Surcharge? really? 12/29/2011

They just added a 25 cent surcharge on credit card transactions. Really in 2011 a credit card surcharge, gas stations don't even do that any more. I am moving on. more

very, very disappointed 7/20/2011

I ran in for an iced coffee and a couploe of baked goods yesterday afternoon. The staff was friendly and iced coffee tasty, but the coffee was ridiculously expensive and 1/2 the size of the gourmet coffee roaster I usually frequent. The two baked goods were old and very stale, and the prices were outrageous - more than $2.00 for a stale, soggy cookie and blondie bar is inexcusable. Will not go there again. more

Great coffee, but... 11/8/2009

Have to agree with a previous poster on this one... if you can ignore the baristas this is a great experience with a good selection of coffees, pastries and the like along with pleasant outdoor seating. Perhaps the customer service is a bit of the old Abercrombie and Fitch Syndrome at play. Wouldn't stop me from going back however. Pros: Fantastic selection of pastries and coffee Cons: Poor customer Service more

Fabulous Coffee and Excellent Service 10/6/2008

This is the best coffee on the seacoast with a great variety of roasts and flavors. The lattes are amazing and they know how to make a good cappucinno as well. The staff is efficient and friendly even when the line is out the door. I would highly reccomend Breaking New Grounds to anyone looking for a great coffee and a nice atmosphere to enjoy it in. Pros: Great selection of coffees, friendly service, and a fun place to sit and enjoy it! Cons: a little pricey more

best iced coffee 6/30/2008

I visit this shop 4/5 days a week. I love their iced coffee and the service is usually fast and friendly. I just wished that they would use recyclable carry out cups. I will be bringing my own travel cup from now on but for the many people who wont do that it's a shame they can't just use recyclable plastic. more

Rudest Staff anywhere 6/11/2008

Famously curt, rude, and obnoxious staff. Fantastic coffee and cookies, but have been treated so rudely that I will not go back. Five stars on the coffee ... owner needs to think about training the staff and managers in customer service. Known though Portsmouth for poor cust service unfortunately :( Pros: great coffee/okay tea Cons: service with a sarcastic snicker more

love the ice coffee 7/18/2007

so nice to sit in the square and drink a delicious ice coffee and poeple watch. fast service even though they were crowded and makes portsmouth a very nice place to hang out in. will definitely be back, wish I lived closer so I could be a regular lol Pros: good poeple watching spot, good coffee Cons: a little overpriced but still good more

Best Coffee on the Seacoast 9/27/2006

Breaking New Grounds has the best coffee in Portsmouth. Though the price for a small non-fat latte is $3.00 for a single, I still say every penny is worth it! Pros: Great coffee, excellent food, nice atmosphere Cons: Long lines, can be noisy, a little overpriced more

support your local coffee shop 9/23/2002

BNG has the best coffee in the Seacoast. Forget *$'s or any of the others. They have the best variety in coffees, blended drinks, teas and juice offerings. The baked goods are rather pedestrian - ranging from plain bagels to Alden Merrill-style cakes. One bright spot is their cookies. Several round tables dot the restaurant, which can have lines out the door on a cool summer evening, or chilly winter day. And, they are local. Pros: Coffee, Selection, Local Cons: Pastries more
