Extremely poor service 10/23/2004

When I arrived, there was a party of 5 ahead of me. I stood in line waiting to be seated for 20 minutes despite the fact that there were no fewer than a dozen tables open. Four hosting staff and the owner were wandering around aimlessly(literally) the entire time I stood there while an additional 20 or so people trickled in. One hostess in particular simply stared at the line with her mouth open the whole time. Luckily our waitress was very responsive. The food was average. My grits were very runny though. more

Awesome!! 2/21/2004

After reading reviews on citysearch, my husband and I decided to try out breadmen's ourself tonight. I am so glad we did! The prices are so reasonable, and cheaper then most anything in Chapel Hill. Our server was very friendly, and when our appetizer (very yummy onion rings) werent delivered when our waiter thought they should be, he took them off the ticket (we weren't worried). Burgers were great! Fries were yummy. We will definitely be back!! Pros: Inexpensive, Good Portions, Friendly Staff more

It feels like home! 1/19/2004

Ah, Breadmen's. This is a GREAT place to grab a quick lunch or a cheap dinner with friends. The food is good, the wait staff is excellent, the atmosphere is relaxed -- good place for family dining. My only complaint is that the menu is rather limited, especially if you are a vegetarian. This is the family dining establishment Elmo's wishes it could be. Remember to ask for the free banana pudding on Monday nights :-) Pros: Inexpensive, Great service, Relaxed atmosphere Cons: limited menu more

Breadman's 3/27/2003

The best onion rings I've had in a LONG time! Service was quick and friendly. My friend, who is a vegetarian said the veggie chili was very good. We're relocating to the Triangle and I will definately be frequenting Breadmand's again! more

Don't bother 1/8/2003

Food is ok, but don't waste your time in line for the service is not worth it. Cons: service more

bad service, dirty table 12/26/2002

Our server, and the cook, screwed up our uncomplicated order twice and seemed not to really care one way or another. We were brought the wrong drinks. Our table and siverware were filthy and the place smells like an ashtray. If you are a non - smoker, don't go here. If you like to eat in a clean, friendly environment, don't go here. We won't be back. more

Yummy & Cheap 12/1/2002

Breadman's is a good place for any meal, but it's breakfast is really good. And it's cheap. What more could you ask for? The only drawback is that you'll usually have to wait for a table...there always seems to be a line. You're also very safe here....it's a favorite with the local 5-0. Pros: cheap, good eats Cons: wait for open table more

Good morning anytime! 11/11/2002

This place is awsome. Everything you order on the menu is always specially cooked and it tastes great! I started going there three years ago, but everyine else I know have been going there for at least more than 15 years. If we keep comming back, its because there is a great reason for it. By the way, this is one of the few places in town where you can get great breakfast anytime that tastes like gramma's. Pros: parking, price is good, family environment Cons: long line on weekends, too cold sometimes, menu needs new dishes more

missing it 10/22/2002

I liked going there when I was living in CH. Service may not be always perfect but it when happened, I usually got the coffee for free. I'm definitely missing it. more

Good stuff! 10/22/2002

Good place for a lazy Sunday breakfast--the ""Big Breadman"" will fill up the heartiest diner. Pros: inexpensive Cons: needs redecorating more

Good and cheap 10/2/2002

Breadmans is a comforatble place to eat, it is full of college kids but hey it is Chapel Hill. Great food and great service and cheap prices more

wow, i never knew 9/28/2002

Ok, i had heard of breadmen's, i had heard that it was just some place where frat-boys went to eat greasy food that was cheep and no good. Well, I finally went there last week and wow. The menu is huge! Lots of Veggie Choices! I got the veggie plate and all of the items on it were better than Mama Dips, Cracker Barrel, or any other diner like place. They have a smoking section -- a welcomed thing that is basically non existant in CH/Carrboro. Mike was our server, and he was awesome. All the staff was great, lots of huge portions, and probally the best vegetable plate and cornbread I have ever had in my life! Pros: smoking section, amazing food/service, plentiful parking Cons: athmosphere...eh more

just like home 8/16/2002

worth the trip from durham 8/13/2002

Great place for breakfast. I just wish they'd move to durham. Pros: food, people more

well established 8/1/2002

Very good food (except the coffee - it sucks), good service, good prices. Cons: coffee sucks more

longer timer 7/23/2002

I have been in Chapel Hill for over 20 years now and seen a lot of restaurant come and go. Breadmen's is run by to Brothers who try to make their restaurant a frendly and nice place. Sundays are their big days. But that must mean they are doing somthing wright. The food is good and portions are good. If you go their more then once and most likley you will come back for more. Pros: smoking, wide open, sports center Cons: smoking, wide open, sports center more

I agree, poor service, rude management 6/15/2002

We had breakfast and encountered slow, distracted service. When we finally got our food, our ""home fries"" were hard and dry and the cheese in my omelet was completely congealed. We had to ask for the check- the waiter was gone so long. Also, the OJ tastes like powdered drink mix. We complained to the manager that we, therefore, did not wish to pay the 15% ""tip"" that is automatically added for parties of 5 or more. He explained that they had to institute this because of the college students who fail to tip and that, increasingly, more restaurants are doing this and for more. He was fairly curt with us and we have resolved not to stray from Mama Dips again. Pros: good pancakes Cons: smoky, slow/rude service, automatic tip for 5 more

Best Breakfast In Chapel Hill 5/22/2002

I moved away from Chapel Hill over 2 years ago and I have never found another restaurant to compare. Not only does Breadman's have a wide variety of choices, but their prices are very reasonable. You must try their Lemon Tamari dressing...it's amazing! Only drawback is it can be crowded for breakfast/brunch...if you go on a Sunday try to come before the church crowd or you will be waiting for a while. Pros: wide selection, Inexpensive Cons: can be crowded more
