Love it! 10/2/2006

This is such a great hidden gem, especially on a cold, foggy night. I got to the restaurant around 8 thinking that I'd have to wait a long time, but we were seated within 10 minutes. The food was amazing and the service was great too! I've been for both a date night and with a larger group and it was great both times. I highly recommend the Pepper Steak and the Filet Mignon- delicious! The dulce de leche gelato was also amazing! more

Long time favorite!! 7/18/2006

Been coming here for years and have never been let down by either the food or service. Many other reviewers have said it all here: Great food, great bar, excellent service and staff, late hours, great crowd/atmosphere, etc... Price is very fair, I wouldn't call it high for SF as a couple of others have said. If you are a regular ask for a ""Brazen Card"", it is the BH's answer to a frequent diners card. Another tip, you can pay park at the Capri across the street if no parking is available on the street and the Capri has spots. Over the years have taken numerous dates here and with this places atmosphere and food have always ended up, shall we say, fully satiated. Call me biased but if this placed ever changed or closed I would go hungry! Pros: Late hours, great bar and bar tenders. Cons: Parking more

FANTASTIC!! 7/6/2006

We went on a Saturday night around 8 and of course it was packed, but didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Great ambiance and a cool, local crowd. Caeser salad was very good. We weren't that hungry so shared the fiet mignon and it was EXCELLENT - the portions to split were even a nice size. This place is a great, little hideaway...there isn't even a sign on the front. We will definitely go back. Pros: Great Food, Great ambiance Cons: Small more

Great FOOD!!! 7/3/2006

It always takes us for ever to get seated, but boy, is it worth it! I've never had less than excellent food there. I recommend it highly. They do a great job with the food. Pros: Great food, great prices, good service Cons: Crowded, small, cash only more

A great little spot 4/13/2006

The Brazen Head is well hidden, but you will have a great meal there. Feel very unlike SF when you are dining there. I definitely recommend the Pot de creme for dessert, its like Chocolate Jello pudding galore. Service was ok and for some reason they dont accept credit cards but they take debit cards. more

Brazen Head is the best for true SF Dining! 3/18/2006

We've been going to Brazen Head for the past 12 years. It continues to be my favorite place to settle down for a nice peppercorn steak. More recently, I've been branching out and trying their other dishes and I've not been disappointed! We recently started with a half-dozen Miyagi and Blue Point Oysters on the half-shell. They were very sweet and fresh (and well-priced, to boot). The Sonoma Rack of Lamb was perfectly cooked with a delicate pinot noir-mint sauce. The escargot continue to be a mainstay as well. The service is impeccable. Indeed, many of the waitstaff have been there as long as we can remember. I highly recommend checking this place out. Pros: Excellent service, Excellent food, Wonderful ambiance Cons: Parking more

Brazen indeed! 9/12/2005

This restaurant does have the atmosphere for sure...having said that, this is a brazen place indeed for its ""brazenly"" over-priced food and sub-par service. In this city of fine dining, I don't care how late you provide food service, the prices are way out of line with the quality of food that are served. The French onion soup is runny, the shrimp salad is ala Denny's, and the entrees are just plain, plain, and plain. I guess the other reviewers are enchanted by the location and the atmosphere of the place; but for me, once is enough. Our tab should have been for half as much, and they don't take credit cards- who has $100 cash for dinner for two at midnight? To be fair, they do have a cash machine; that just tells you how management treats you...plus the lack-luster service, this place is thumbs down big time. Pros: Intimate atmosphere Cons: Price, mediocre food, service more

Good Food, Worst Service 5/17/2004

I still cannot believe how our waiter treated us - He throw dessert menus and my friend's credit card onto the table instead of HANDING them to us. Sure, we were not too hungry to order the full course he recommended, but that does not justify his rude attitude. It was even obvious since he was VERY nice at the beginning... We agreed the food was good enough, but it was not worth coming back due to the service. Pros: Good ambiance, Nice interior Cons: , Too small place more

Best secret spot in the city 11/1/2003

Everything on the menu is incredible (especially their pepper steak) but what's more amazing about this place is that it's got the neatest atmosphere of any restaurant in the city. You feel like you've discovered something remarkable when you first eat there, and you have. more

Sailor 6/19/2003

Great place. This is Cheers without blow-hard Cliff. Super after work drink crowd and the owner is one hell of a bartender, who will remember your name after just one visit. Nice date joint, too. Pros: service, atmosphere, location Cons: parking more

Nice Hideaway 6/5/2003

Great atmosphere and bar. Nice place to go with a group of 2 to 4. The food was good, but didn't knock my socks off. A little pricey. Most my friends swear by this place. more

Terrrrific comfortable late hour dining. 2/4/2003

Easy going but attentive service; very edible offerings in a romantic atmoshere while retaining that neighborhood bar/cafe feel. I live in Seattle but return over and over to this refuge. We always feel like young lovers here. more

Hail to Halibut 10/15/2002

My first experinece at the this dark, slender and dim restaurant was a delight. I was taken with three male friends and we had a great time talking over dinner and enjoying drinks. I had the Halibut with capers, spinach and wild rice. The meal was great, excellent and all the more exciting to return.. more

Mmm...raw meat is good 9/1/2002

Around 11 one night, my girlfriend and a buddy of mine swung by for a snack before heading home. We had a half dozen appetizers (including some really tasty carpaccio...though a bit mustardy), and my friend had a burger that to this day, I'm convinced caused him to hallucinate. It was that good, he maintains. At any rate, drinks are great, atmosphere is great, people are great...and the raw meat is..well, raw meat. You have to go here at least once. Pros: Great beef, Cozy, Great staff Cons: Poor parking more
