Editorial review from Citysearch 3/19/2015

Braxton Automotive on Howell Mill provides botched oil changes and poor customer service from Owner Steve Braxton. I had two botched oil changes over a one year period with the most recent being 1/2015. Oil light came on next day and found car was 2 quarts low. Even with that I called 3/2015 to get brakes done. Manager assured me they would take care of me and make up for past discrepancies. While I was en route, he called back to say the owner Steve doesn't ""feel we can provide a quality service to you given the failures of the past"". WTH? He said the owner felt if I didn't have confidence in them in the past then they probably can't meet my expectations. Mind you they had a note on my account that the technician was reprimanded because of the botched oil change. How is that my fault? Would not recommend this Auto Shop to fix my son's toy car... more

Honest Mechanics and Quality Work 8/19/2011

Braxton Automotive is my regular mechanic and has been for about 5 years. While they specialize in BMWs, Volvos and Minis, I have taken my Infiniti and Acura there without any problem. They are fast, courteous, and above all HONEST. They may not be the cheapest in town, but I believe they charge fair prices, and in return, I get quality work and can be sure that I'm not getting taken. Steve Braxton is about as good as they come! You will not be sorry if you use them! more

Thieves! 2/21/2011

A while ago I took my BMW to have it checked because I was hearing some noise coming from the rear wheels. I was told my car needed new brakes and that the noise was due to some brake components having come somewhat loose, to my rotors chipping and small metal parts coming off. I was finally also led into believing that my rear brakes might fail any time if I needed to perform an emergency stop. Cost of the brake job? $1100 [$350 labor]\r \r Do I need new brakes? Probably not! I drove the car for 1100 miles not even 15 days ago and had no problems with my brakes. The pads are still 9mm thick compared to 10mm thick when brand new. \r \r But here is the kicker! The noise was due to a broken sway-bar joint which even a monkey would have seen if he/she just bent over and looked underneath/behind the rear wheel. The broken joint is just in plain sight , and it requires no car-related experience to be identified as defective/broken [simply by comparison with a good one on the other wheel]. more

Go somewhere else! 2/16/2011

I've taken my car here a couple times and have found them to be nice but overpriced, but my most recent visit was why I won't go back. I had an issue with my tail lights and an O2 sensor (which they got me for over $500!) but when I got the car back my rear door locks didn't work! When I asked them to assume the fault and take care of the issue, they said that my car was old and the door locks failed on their own. Really?!?!? Because it was working just fine before I brought it to you! Very disappointing company! I guess the days of customer service have passed them by. Maybe they used to be good but I think things may be going downhill. I won't be going back, and if I were you, I wouldn't go there either! more

Not happy. 2/8/2011

Braxton Automotive is really conveniently located for me, so I took my XC-90 there for the 60,000 mile service. I was told it needed new brakes, both front and back, including rotors and pads. The quote I was given was $599 for the front and $569 for the rear. That seemed expensive, so I called around to get other quotes. I was given a quote of $453.45 for the front and $416.29 for the back from Volmaz in Decatur (plus there is a 10% discount coupon on line). Even Dyer & Dyer, the dealer in Chamblee, gave me a lower quote! There it is $590 for the front and $569 for the rear, plus a $50-off for each set of pads for a $100 discount! Plus, the service technician with whom I spoke (Sam ... nice guy) said that he wouldn't be surprised if I didn't need the rotors repaired. Braxton made it seem like they always replace rotors along with pads.\r \r I sort of assumed that if I went with a non-dealer, I would get a better price. I was mistaken. So I will be taking my car elsewhere. Hec more

So much better than the dealership 11/19/2009

I tTook my Mini here for the first time this week for an oil change. I had enough of the terrible service at the Mini dealership and was so happy to find Braxton. They completed my oil change in less than 30 minutes, and charged about 1/3 of what the dealership charges. Bottom line: Braxton completed the service in the time it would have taken to just get the car checked in at the dealership. Pros: easy to make appointment, quick service, good prices Cons: none more

THEY RUINED MY CAR!!!! 11/10/2009

Took my car in for a coolant change and left needing a new engine. My car never over heated before I took it to Braxton Automotive. They also broke my driver side window it will no longer roll down. One mechanic there is very rude when explaining things to you about your car. The worst thing about Braxton is that they are frauds. They fixed the car enough for it to drive it to Cumberland mall, which google maps says is an 11 minute drive. Ive since been with out a car for about 2 months thanks to Braxton Automotive. They gave me back some of my money which was fair. Fair until I learned that they didn't even put in some of the parts they charged me for. They told me they put in a new thermostat & I was charged for it. But I found out the thermostat was not a new one or changed In summary I went from a $120 coolant change to spending close to $3,000. Don't risk it by taking your car to Braxton Automotive like I did more

Don't take your Volvo or BMW anywhere else!!!! 9/24/2007

We have been taking our Volvo and BMW to Braxton for years, and never receive anything but top-notch, courteous and on-time service. Steve Braxton and his team are incredibly knowledgeable about all facets of Volvos and BMWs. He may well be the only automotive technician in town who will actually tell you what really does and really doesn't need to get fixed. If repairs are non-essential and don't interfere with safety in any way, Steve and Jeanne will tell you that repair is completely optional. When the Volvo broke down outside of Atlanta, the closest repair center was a Volvo dealership, which told us we needed a $5500 transmission overhaul. We towed the car back to Atlanta and to Braxton. The real problem? A temperature gauge that cost $125. The only problem is that they will make every dealership and technician you ever deal with again look awful!!!!!!! more

Bad service, worse parts 1/5/2007

I got a new power steering pump from them which took two tries since the first pump was bad. Less than a week later after repeated calls I had to get the second pump replaced by another shop. I was told the replacement pump was shoddy and extremely poor quality. When I attempted to get a refund they would only give me a replacement part.\r \r I would not recommend Japanese Auto Repair to anyone. more

Pros! 8/8/2006

I took my Volvo to have my car checked. The transmission was acting weird, but the car was throwing several other codes indicating it could've been another problem. Unlike a few other places I'd taken it to, they ruled out several possiblities before telling me the transmission needed to be replaced.\r \r Braxton Automotive also has a great staff from the office to the mechanics.\r \r Their website also rules, they have awesome tips and coupons that change and are kept pretty current. PROS: knowledgeable, professional, friendly CONS: more

Poor work resulted in greese on rear breaks 10/18/2005

I took my 2001 Toyota truck in to have the rear bearings and seals replaced. Once they had the truck mostly in pieces the price tripled due to parts they didn't know about. With a lot of haggling I was able to talk them down a bit and we split the difference. About 12K miles later I brought the truck back in with the same leaking bearing. The truck was 300 miles over the 12K warranty so they refused to help me. I just got back from another shop. They handed me the seal and told me it had been put in with a punch instead of the proper tool. They are obviously either dishonest or incompetent. Either way I recommend going somewhere else. PROS: Location CONS: Poor work more

Very Good 6/24/2005

When I had my Honda Accord these guys always worked on it when there was a problem. The are honest and resonably priced. They even returned my car cleaner than it was when I brough it in. This place is very good for repair on Hondas. more
