Tried It Twice and Won't Go Back 9/13/2011

This was our second time back. We thought we would give it another shot, but it was just as I remembered. The portion sizes are really small, the cornbread is really expensive considering what you get, and the meat options were really nothing special. more

Environment lively but food & service inconsistent 6/3/2011

One of my favorite dishes is the plantain and reminds me of numerous family days when I was younger. This time they were quite off but I didn't have the heart to send them back. They were quite blackened (ie burnt) and some slices completely all over. I looked over at the neighboring table that had ordered them after us and theirs were golden and bronzed. Not sure what happened to mine. Needless to say I was quite disappointed and surprised at the inconsistency and icy service. more

Fantastic! 9/20/2010

Great first experience at Brasa, I highly recommend it. Considering the chef and the website, I expected the restaurant to be a nice sit-down place. We were surprised when we pulled up to see something that looked more like a fast food joint. The building is a converted car service station, complete with the clear garage door stalls. However, once you get past the initial surprise and start eating, it all goes out the window. We ordered the braised pork, braised beef, cornbread, cheese grits, creamed spinach, and fried plantains. Also went with the big chocolate chip cookie and cafe con leche for dessert. It didn't look like a lot of food when it arrived, but it's all very filling and absolutely delicious. The only complaints that I had were that I like my cornbread a little sweeter and my coffee a bit stronger. The service was great and I couldn't believe how inexpensive it ended up being for the quality. Go early because they don't take reservations! We arrived around 5:20pm on a Saturday and the place filled up soon after. more

Good but expensive 5/6/2010

I really like their food but for the portion size it is expensive. If things were about 20% cheaper it would be wonderful. more

Good food surrounded by mediocrity 6/28/2009

I know a lot of people who rave about this place but, after going more than once, I've concluded that it's not all that great. Food and drink is overpriced and, although service has been congenial, I think the help in the kitchen lacks an eye for detail. I've received extremely fatty meats -- a major disappointment for a place that's revered for its pork, beef and chicken. I like the place but it's just not worth the $. You should be weary of anyone who considers this place an excellent find. Pros: Food is good Cons: A bit pricy, crowded, slow service more

fabulous home food in a casual setting 2/9/2009

The critics were right about this place - meat was fantastic, and the sides were wonderful. If you're a chain-restaurant-eating side of meat on a plate kind of person, this isn't for you, however. Portions were entirely under control but still plenty for two. I almost hate gushing about the place since it's so small.... Pros: the food Cons: lack of space more

Brasa has come a long way! 6/16/2008

I did not love Brasa when it first opened. Since opening a year ago, they've perfected what they do. We recenly stopped in and made a meal of side dishes...we tried them all and there was not one dud. This is seriously good soul food! more
